well I was gonna say that with wheels maybe you'd have center of mass issues, but then I remembered we already have pretty awesome bipedal wheeled robots:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7xvqQeoA8c

I do think footed bipedal robots have the advantage of being able to move their feet to balance, whereas wheeled bots have their feet more or less fixed and have to move their arms and torso to balance.

footed bot for comparison:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF4DML7FIWk

it does still need to use its arms I guess but maybe not as much

mirrors aren't a rotation. they invert everything along their normal axis (into/away-from the mirror).

so your reflection is not you having rotated around to stand facing yourself; it's you with your nose inverted with the back of your head. everything from the front has been push through to the back and vice-versa.

so in the image, notice that is what is happening on the right. everything is inverted through the axis of reflection.

Well, since they still have Atmospheres, Magnetic Fields, etc I think they fall into the Category of 'Planet'...whereas Brown Dwarfs, Suns, Nebulas, etc all have different properties
I feel like a "planet" should be something I can land on and get out and walk around on, at least in principle. something with a surface. a giant ball of gas is something else.

this makes me wonder about liquid planets though... you could have an oceanic planet, but you could also have a nearly entirely liquid planet.

I guess the question always is, where do you draw the line? a planet with so much atmosphere and so little "ground" that the atmosphere itself is eventually solid?

I guess to me, it has to be a "world". there has to be something that it is like to be on it. I can stand on the surface and experience its surface. or I can at least swim in its surface. a gas giant is so far removed from that it's not the same thing.

I guess we want hard categories with clear distinctions, but in reality everything is in a very granular spectrum and the more we explore the less clear the distinctions become.

this is actually something I would like to know more about but I don't think talking about it here would be very productive

the issue between Paul and Fauci is that Fauci said they "were not funding gain of function research there", and then it was learned that yes, USA was funding research there, but then Fauci says "yeah but it's not gain of function", and then Paul says "it's gain of function by your own definition", and then Fauci says "nuh-uh", and that's as far as I've seen that go so far. I think a lot of winter related events are a fair bit more exciting than summer because almost all of them tend to have speed as a major component (also makes them more dangerous though).

the things that makes me think of are Minecraft (specifically walling up and defending a village), or Rimworld.

Lokarin posted...
You notice the town is unlikely to survive the next attack but you don't exactly have the resources of the king to upgrade towers yourself, so it becomes a trading game; You grow plants, or mine material, or hunt monsters (basic survival caz stuff) and realize it will never be enough, not by yourself. So you start to build roads, arrange caravans, trade with neighbouring tower towns.

After that it just is a matter of scale...
that there sounds a lot like RimWorld.

another game it makes me think of is Majesty. basically, there is an RPG town beset by monsters, but you don't have direct control of the RPG characters; rather you build up the town which gives the automated RPG characters the resources they need to go fight the monsters. the money the RPG characters spend in your town you use to upgrade the services further, etc.

could be it distributes the heat, but if you have certain features in your microwave, like a turntable, maybe you're already getting that

if you microwave something stationary and then look at it with an infrared camera you can see that the heat goes through it like a very thick laser only at specific points, leaving other points completely unheated
