If it's a legitimate remaster with a lot of work done to it like Demon's Souls it's fine. But simply bumping up the resolution and frame rate won't cut it considering the Xbox Series X (and PS5 to a small extent) can do that to your own games for free.

I also encourage you to try making whole foods plant-based meals that are good without needing a meat replacement.

Soy by itself isn't all that bad. They're a good source of calories, protein, fiber, and iron, so they are a good crop to grow. The problem is we grow so much of it, and animal agriculture is the primary driving force of that. 73% of a soybean is the meal, which is human-edible and the most nutritious part of the bean, but 97% of that meal is fed to pigs, chickens, and farmed fish. Another 6% of the bean is the hull which is almost exclusively fed to cows.

The main problem with the tablet was it didn't really bridge the gap between a console and a portable since you still need the main system to be nearby to operate. And the tablet greatly increased the manufacturing cost of the system, so they had to sacrifice other specs to include it. So you were getting the worse of both worlds. You were getting a portable game console that's not really portable and a home game console that's not all that powerful.

The next good argument is "veganism is a wealth privilege, people in the third world don't have the luxury", but that has nothing to do with why you eat steak.

The things I would point out about this:

  1. People in developing nations already eat very little meat in most cases.
  2. Poor people in developed nations are some of the most likely people to be vegan. Black Americans are nearly 3x as likely to be vegan or vegetarian as the country's general population. A plant-based diet is really cheap as long as you aren't over-reliant on prepackaged food.
  3. Meat is incredibly destructive to the way life of many people in developing nations. Somali pirates were originally fishermen trying to stop illegal fishing that was depleting their local supply. The leading cause of deforestation in the Amazon is to create land for cattle farming and land to grown soybeans for the cattle.

And to improve those conditions they will need to give the animals much more room to live. Which goes back to the original problem I brought up. We are already using way too much land to house farm animals. This would make it even worse.

I'm all for improving conditions in factory farms myself. Plant-based and cultured meat are already expected to eventually become cheaper than animal meat under the current system. This would just drive them towards price parity even quicker.

You don't have to "pay out the ass", not sure where you're getting that. Yes you pay more, but the difference in quality of local vs mass produced is night and day. My FB feed is flooded with posts from my local group around slaughter time, people going in on a 1/4 side of beef and sharing to reduce the cost. It's not that uncommon in rural areas.

So I guess you never buy meat from any grocery store or eat at any restaurant? Thats nearly as limiting as a plant-based diet is.

Around here small farm meat costs twice as much and has limited availability. And people say veganism is only for the privileged. If free range was the only meat available it would be even more expensive. Animal ag already takes up a majority of all farm land even with factory farms. Without factory farming theres no way we would have even close to enough land to satisfy current and future demand.

And if you think all livestock live in Tyson Foods conditions, you have no business commenting. I've spent the last 20 years of my life in farming communities. The animals have plenty of room to roam and are not mistreated. It makes zero sense to damage and abuse your product, and in 20 years I know of only ONE farmer in my community who had less than stellar conditions, and was reported and corrected the issues. Smaller communities actually care about their food and the conditions they live in.
You talk about Tyson like theyre some small player. They slaughter over 6 million chickens a year. I live in a rural area too, and everyone gets a majority of their meat from the grocery store and fast food like everyone else. Unless you are paying out the ass for your meat its not ethical (as ethical as killing an innocent animal 1/4th of the way through its life as can be).

You are painting all vegans with a pretty wide brush. There are people who are vegan for perceived health benefits. There are people who ate vegans for environmental reasons. There are people who are vegans because of the treatment of animals. There are people who are vegans because eating animal products just weird them out. They share a diet in common not necessarily the underlying reasoning behind it.
Those are all distinctive groups though. Someone on a plant-based diet might still buy leather goods or prepare meat for other people. A vegan might eat lab-grown meat while a plant-based dieter wouldn't if they are doing it for health reasons. A vegan might be more likely to eat a lot of junk food while a plant-based dieter who is doing it for health reasons likely wouldn't.
DeadBankerDream posted...
I mean, you made that up and is sniffing your own virtue like farts, but okay.
I didn't make it up. Donald Watson, the guy who coined the term vegan, co-founded the Vegan Society for animals rights. I'm not saying that vegans are better than plant-based dieters, just that they are distinct enough that they shouldn't be classified as the same thing just because their diets are similar.

In some sense, I guess.

The idea that knowing what "goes on" in slaughterhouses (as if people already don't) would turn the world significantly vegan/vegetarians is a laughable ideological idea that some supposed intelligent humans have. But for sure there is an incentive to keep bloody and gory images out of the public due to the gut reaction such would cause probably having a minor, almost insignificant, negative result on revenue for said industry. It doesn't mean there's some sort of conspiracy to keep the evils of meat eating secret. They're not. Linked to that, there's also an incentive to protect the individual factories within the state from a bad image that linking such gory images to them might give.
It probably wouldn't cause everyone to go vegan en-masse, but it would make factory farms have some accountability. It wouldn't be as easy for them to get away with their horrendous practices. Farm animals would actually get some level of welfare.

And believe it or not, a lot of people really aren't aware of how fucked up the industry is. My mom didn't even know that dairy cows need to be constantly impregnated to produce milk.

CanuckCowboy posted...
