That said, I've done the six novellas I mentioned (very YA heist lit) and some short stories and short plays in the fantasy genre. Then I made the dubious decision to spend the last 5.5 years of my life working on a sprawling space opera that is almost assuredly too long to get published without a better track record of success. That's a few days away from entering the query stage, and my fingers are crossed. I guess I'm optimistic in that the franchise's continued success means it'll stay around for a while so the novel and/or fanfic authors have more chances to produce quality. I thought the prequels, the sequels, and the animated shows were terrible.
