I like in East LA. Pit bulls are good guard dogs (older residents here dont typically use home security systems) for an area that has lots of crime. The culture here isnt to adopt a pet to live with you in the house, but to keep outdoors to fend off potential home/car robbers

Those folks have it right, that's what a Pitbull or a Rottweiler should be for. Plus you can still have a dog in that capacity and give them a good life.

Just like you wouldn't use a Golden Retriever for security, if you want a cuddly dog to play with kids and go to the park and be around other animals don't get a Pitbull. It doesn't require banning a breed, just knowledge of what situations different breeds are better suited for.

To be honest I never really understand why people want dogs like Pitbulls, Rottweilers, Dobermans, etc as house pets when there are so many other breeds available. Why would you want a breed that, even however unlikely, IF they decided to attack a person or another animal they have the physical attributes to easily maim or kill.

I don't think these breeds should be illegal. However, people need to understand that these breeds where bred to work, protect, etc. The origins of the modern Pitbull breed was literally for antagonizing large animals almost exactly like that Pitbull in the OP was doing. It's not the dogs fault or him being malicious, it's an animal following its genetic impulses.
