Like people have no problem shaming these kinds of people for their extravagance, excess, and potential destruction of public property, but hooooo wait a minute don't you DARE call them out for presumptively assigning their child's gender! No of course gender reveal parties are not on the same level as, say, the 206 House Republicans who just voted against the Equality Rights Act. At worst, it's just passive enforcement of gender. I'm just saying: none of what the Instagram post said is incorrect. Once we start breaking ourselves out of these engendered traditions, it becomes easier to societally accept gender as something that's not locked to your genitals. We're just largely more comfortable that way for the most part. He's not a bad guy for someone who grew up in the 50s. He'll watch Colbert and John Oliver and Rachel Maddow, so at least my folks haven't fallen down that rabbit hole. I wish we had more in common, but honestly I took so hard to video games and he couldn't catch up. --- CyricZ He/him

Choco posted... ... that is the dumbest thing i've ever read and kind of racist Sure is, but it's more complicated than just "they don't look Asian so they're not POC". Don't forget that we've got a whole generation of anime fans who were raised with anime characters who (through the mukokuseki trend) look more Caucasian than Japanese. Mukokuseki on its own is kinda racist, even if there's no actual "culprit" as it's a long-term trend. The whole point was to make characters look distinct, so they were given different eye styles, head shapes, hair colors, body types. It gives a lot of freedom in how to create a character that's "stateless", but with all that freedom, they mostly ignored the idea of different skin color. And has just been posted, there's no shortage of Japanese folks who are just openly racist. --- CyricZ He/him
