He had a gun. Watch the video again. He clearly has the gun and moves it to his side where the cop can't see it then he quickly whips the hand with the gun up and it's not there anymore. All within a split second.

Police, who were responding to reports of shots fired in the area, say the teen had a handgun on him before the shooting. And Stillmans footage shows him shining a light on a handgun on the ground near Toledo after he shot him.

I dont know what occurred prior to the start of the video. Hence I dont know the truth of the matter.

It's pretty common to refer to people by their first names, the only reason I've been saying Coates and not Ta-Nehisi is because I'd have to google it each time so as to not accidentally misspell it and likely trigger some people here.

Im more curious as to why people still tend to jump to conclusions with stories like this when so often the initial narrative turns out to be wrong. This story in particular seems to be missing a huge piece of information.

yes it is wrong. i did not say it was not. just pointing out that it is indeed relevant that having an arrest warrant out for you and then resisting arrest is relevant in him getting shot dead in that situation. ideally, he would be arrested and brought to court to determine his innocence. unfortunately, life does not always play out to be fair.

it would be less likely he would be shot. if he didn't have an arrest warrant, he wouldn't have been in the process of being arrested, resisting arrest, trying to drive away, getting shot...etc.

so yes, it would be much like likely he getting shot if he did not have an arrest warrant out from breaking bail due to armed robbery charge.
