I guess it started when I was in 10th or 11th grade.

A friend and I would sneak a beer or two out of the fridge at one of our houses, just to see what it tasted like.

That summer was the first time I got "drunk". I drank a 4 pack of 16oz Buds

I've been a casual drinker ever since, although I don't think I've gotten "drunk" in years. I rarely drink hard liquor, so I tend to get full when I drink beer before I get drunk.

They should give the bonus to the employees, not the people who are at home collecting checks. I never understood the rationale behind the UI bonus. You are creating an incentive to stay unemployed.
Originally, it was added protection because places were actually closing because of Covid, and people were genuinely out of a job, and there were no jobs out there to replace the ones they were losing. A bartender getting laid off isn't just going to find another gig if all the bars are closed due to Covid.

Now that things are starting to open up, and companies are looking to hire again, people are realizing that the wages they were originally getting aren't worth it, and are holding out for wages to rise.

I just got back yesterday from a long weekend at HersheyPark in Pennsylvania.

Literally every place we went to eat was short staffed. 30 minute wait times to be seated in places that were MAYBE 1/4th full, simply because they had no waitstaff available.

One place made me laugh, because they had a sign that said "Please be patient, due to the 'pandemic' (yes in quotes) no one wants to work, so we are extremely short staffed", with another sign next to it saying "Finding willing employees: The New Pandemic".

I believe Mission Hill would have lasted a long time had it been on fox
I'm sure it's a cult classic.

But the fact that is was a TV show that last 13 episodes 20 years ago, you can see why no one has any idea what it is.

bigblu89
07/08/21 1:04:06 PM

I think of movies from my childhood that are considered "Modern Classics" like Ghostbusters, Jaws, Goonies, Back to the Future, Ferris Bueller, etc. Movies that are still firmly entrenched in modern pop culture.

I then think of Music like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Zepplin, Elvis, etc that were all before my time, but seem to still somehow remain relevant today.

I can't help but wonder if there is anything coming out now, or in the last 10 years or so, that will stand the same test of time, and still be popular in 30, 40, 50, 60 years from now.

Only things I can think of are things like Star Wars and Marvel, simply because they keep pumping out new stuff to stay relevant. But what about "one a done" movies, like Goonies was, that will still be watched and loved 30 years from now?

Like I said, we can discuss the how's and why's of it all, but basically dating back to Bush Sr., this is how it's been.

Since I've been alive, every U.S. recession started while a Republican was in office.

1980-82 - Regan
1990-91 - Bush Sr.
2001 - Bush Jr.
2008-09 - Bush Jr.

Republican President crashes the market, Democratic President artificially inflates it, Republican President crashes it again, Democratic President props it up again.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
