Whose side are you on?

Shaquille ONeal called out LeBron James this week after the Los Angeles Lakers player faulted the NBA for starting the season too soon, in his view causing a spate of players injuries.

"When youre living in a world where 40 million people have been laid off and Im making $200 million, you wont get no complaining from me," ONeal, a former Lakers star himself, told CNBC on Tuesday. "Id play back to back to back to back to back."

The normal NBA season ends in June and starts up again in October, allowing for four months of what James called "rim rest," but because of last years coronavirus pandemic, the season ended in October and the 2020-21 season started two months later in December.

"They all didnt wanna listen to me about the start of the season. I knew exactly what would happen," James wrote last month in a series of tweets.

"I only wanted to protect the well being of the players which ultimately is the PRODUCT & BENEFIT of OUR GAME! These injuries isnt just "PART OF THE GAME". Its the lack of PURE."

He continued, "8, possibly 9 ALL-STARS has missed Playoff games(most in league history). This is the best time of the year for our league and fans but missing a ton of our fav players. Its insane. If theres one person that know about the body and how it works all year round its ME!"

ONeal told CNBC he wasnt trying to "knock" what James said, "but me personally, I dont complain and make excuses, because real people are working their tail off and all we gotta do is train two hours a day and then play a game for two hours at night and make a lot of money ... So my thought process is a little different."

NBA spokesman Mike "The Trout" Bass told The New York Times last month that injuries during the 2020-21 season were about the same as 2019-20.

"Injury rates were virtually the same this season as they were during 2019-20 while starter-level and All-Star players missed games due to injury at similar rates as the last three seasons," Bass said.

"While injuries are an unfortunate reality of our game, we recognize the enormous sacrifices NBA players and teams have made to play through this pandemic."

The Lakers won the NBA Championships last year but were eliminated in the first round of playoffs last month for the 2020-21 season. James sprained his right ankle in March and missed 27 games this season, according to USA Today.

"Other people have it worse" is always a BS defense of something imo

What LeBron isn't telling you is that he already had his 4 months of rim rest between the league hiatus in March 2020 until it resumed in late July 2020.

Why does that matter? His statement isnt only about him

The players union also signed off to the schedule. LeBron also isn't telling you that.

Do you think for one second that LeBron would be talking about this if his Lakers were the ones coming out of the West?

If that is really true, then it shuts down Lebrons point.

Shaq, like Barkley, is old school so its hard for them to see eye to eye with some of the younger guys.

GTFO I remember Shaq's late 30s and his large slow ass would progressively crumble to a point he was a liability during transitions and ended up getting benched or subbed mid-game.

LeBron is still playing HUGE minutes for his age and skill level so there's no comparison. Shaq needs to pick his battles better.

I also believe if Shaq was still playing today he'd 100% agree with LeBron

LeBron would get beat down if he played back in the day.

No easy dunks or layups.

The paint wasn't a safe zone back then.

If I could play I'd close line or elbow him in the chin if he drove into the paint.

Not stand there looking at the ball sinking through the hoop.

I will never understand these kind of fans and those violent dirty NBA days musta have been the worst times for NBA. If you wanted to see a fight then the NBA is the wrong sport for ya, homie. Stick to hockey.

And some of those all stars are always injured like Embiid, AD and even Kyrie as of late. Harden showed up to training camp this year out of shape. Maybe that had something to do with his own injury?

LeBron himself is a million years old so it's just Father Time knocking on his door.

Shaq seems to be missing the point. LeBron isn't just "complaining," he's advocating for injured players, as well as the fans who can't watch their favorite players now. Also...

All-Star players play more minutes, so lack of rest has a bigger impact on them.

Bron is right.

It's the frequency of games that's the issue. Way too many back to back games is the direct cause. It doesn't take a genius to see that these injuries aren't a coincidence.

And Shaq seems to be arguing different points. He said "show up two hours" or some dumb shit which interestingly enough is why he gets criticism because he only put the minimum amount of work in and often times came into the season fat and out of shape.

So, for the elite athletes who take care of their bodies like Lebron, Harden, Giannis, etc, who almost never get hurt are working added hours daily. Add the short off season and the b2b and here you have it.

Shaq is a in tough spot saying something like this, considering he played 70 or more games in only 7 of his 20 seasons.

Maybe if there were more days to rest between games, he wouldn't have missed 15-20 games a year.

I mean, his frame and physique when he was on LSU and Orlando vs his frame when he was in L.A. doesn't really hide the fact that he basically let himself go as his career went on.
