The other thing a lot of people forget is the sheer size of the US, and how absolutely shit mass transit is in most places. Cars are pretty much a necessity here in ways that they aren't in other countries. So we're pretty much going to generate far more waste in that respect than most other places, regardless of whether we're using combustion engines or electric.

Outlawing plastic bags at supermarkets or pushing people to buy electric cars doesn't really help if companies are still dumping tons of waste into the environment and there's tons of fuel being used on airplanes and trucks for cargo transport. If most other anti-homeless legislation is anything to go on, they'll be fined, obviously never pay that fine, spend a night or two in jail for missing their court date for not paying said fine, then pick up where they left off when they get out and repeat the cycle again. Periodically, if too many homeless people are gathering in one spot, you'll see large police raids to disperse them, at which point they'll go somewhere else.

The end result of this, of course, is a whole lot of money spent on police and legal resources with absolutely nothing to show for it and a homeless population that will never never have the credit rating they need to rent a place of their own (since those missed fines destroy it). But hey, at least some voters might not have to look at quite as many homeless people. That's gotta count for something, right?

Why should it be any different than the rest of the criminal justice system? >_>

I've seen people advocate for showing kids porn in sex ed, under the rationale that it provides an opportunity to examine it critically and understand what is and isn't realistic so they develop mroe reasonable expectations around sex. Naturally, the reaction was about on par with what this lady got, but I think there's some merit to the idea. As much as people would like to pretend otherwise, pretty much anyone that's started puberty is going to be checking out porn at some point or another. Might as well preempt that and give them that experience in a controlled environment where they can have questions answered and misconceptions addressed.

Pretty much, although the problem is still that once people start watching the vanilla stuff, they eventually move onto the other areas. Plus sex addictions are more common to get at younger ages because the brain is still developing (which, for boys, doesn't stop until 25; I think girls might be the same or sooner)

What I do imagine is someone trying to avoid a sore arm only to end up with a sore everything, or worse - that and the inability to pay for much-needed respiration.

When they did a spot test at grocery store in NY in 2020, they found that a large number of people showed signs of having recovered from COVID despite the fact they never even realized they had it. In general, the vaccine less about protecting you -- unless you're elderly or have a compromised immune system -- than it is about protecting others by trying to control the spread. And the theory is that even though the vaccine will kill a certain number of people (and that number will be relatively low), those sacrifices will ensure the safety of everybody else. Which is a logical utilitarian argument, but it's not so great for those who die from the vaccine.

Incidentally, that's why we're having that huge push for teens right now. Very few teens have died from COVID (and iirc almost all of them had underlying conditions), but they're potential carriers. I mean, look at the PSAs -- they're very explicitly encouraging kids taking the vaccine to protect others.

And in general, you can probably expect several rounds of vaccines because the WHO completely mishandled the early infection -- effectively repeating CCP propaganda even while the CCP was locking up whistleblowing doctors (many of whom died from COVID in prison) -- and the international response has been the shits, and thus the virus has been able to mutate as it spread.

Although, to be fair, my arm is *still* sore at the injection site months later, so even the actual trivial reason I wouldn't entirely dismiss (I had serious doubts when it came to the guy administering it; I should have just gone somewhere else, but it was a pain to find any place with the Janssen). If I didn't have a physical coming up in about another month, I'd probably have scheduled a doctor's appointment about this. The metallic taste in my mouth went away about after a week, although food still doesn't taste quite right. Honestly, though, my reaction seems mild compared to some of my relatives who got the Pfizer, since theirs were just really fucking bad. I had a headache, but I don't think I even felt any fatigue.

LeVar Burton is by far the best of the hosts they'd had on the show (granted, I'm not sure I've seen a full LeVar episode though >_<), but he's too old.

Ken Jennings would be great. Blossom would be okay, but she still has acting so I doubt she'd be able to devote herself to the job.

I watched most of it in terms of individual story threads, and only watched the last season as full episodes.

The show generally seemed pretty good from what I saw of it, but they make so many weird decisions in the last two seasons especially that super-rushed final season where so much shit was anticlimatic or stupid. I will say that it's hard to end the series while making everybody happy, but it's almost as hard to end a series making everybody unhappy. They, uh, opted for the worse of the difficult outcomes.

What was the most recent match of his you watched? It's really hard to judge someone as harshly as you have without really evaluating their work.

Pac v Kenny on Dynamite (?) earlier this year, and the No-DQ four-way between him, Mox, Archer, and Kenta/Hideo. Then part of one of his PPV matches from the last year. That makes no sense. If somebody is convicted for a moral degeneracy, you now know their degeneracy and they're unable to cover up their crimes. Not even close. That sort of thinking actually leads to real life harm in some cases. Most child molesters are "simply" oppertunistic sexual predators, the age of the victim is only relevant to them in that it makes them easier to control and thus abuse. These same people have no problems carrying on relationships with adults and often don't have the same telltale "red flags" that a true pedophile might display and so they actually have easier access to victims.

In the case of somebody pursuing pubescent minors, maybe, but that seems pretty unlikely in the case of prepubescent minors because you'd need some specific attraction. Otherwise I'm not sure there's much basis to the claim that pedophiles are exclusively into prepubescent children, because sexual deviancy is on a spectrum. And that's overlooking the pedophiles who deliberately carry on relationships with adults as a cover for their fascination with kids (which has been the case with other sexual preferences that were illegal at the time), or are with adult partners as a substitute for children.

I'm not saying that you don't always have opportunistic predators, but this is something you'd need at least *some* interest in to do it.

Considering that recording one-on-one meetings isn't a terribly unusual practice, that doesn't really factor into anything. And keep in mind performance evaluations very frequently come into lawsuits (and was a major part in BOTH of the lawsuits I almost got stuck serving jury duty for).

But, in general, there are a LOT of workplaces where most conversations are recorded. Even some white collar jobs go way overboard with recording devices, and I don't even mean hedge funds like Bridgewater.

tbh, I've had numerous gaps in my anime watching over the years and not once have I ever felt like I missed out on anything. With the exception of live entertainment, you can check out on most things without really being hurt and then just catch up afterward. Conversely, I picked a fucking shitty time I stop watching wrestling years ago so I missed out on CM Punk's major WWE run while it was happening. That I kinda regret.

And I think I basically quit again. I haven't watched an anime since before my other laptop bugged out, and I haven't done much manga lately either. Or watched much in the way of tv, films, etc.

K-ON. The irony is that kyoani is my favorite studio and produced two my my top 3 favorite anime.

K-On was a remarkably blah moe blob series. I liked the art and character designs, but good fucking god was that among the most boring anime I've ever watched. And I generally like slice of life comedies. Genshiken is still probably among my favorites.

Season 1 mostly sucks, but the seasons afterward are halfway decent. However, the series is absurdly forgettable. I can never remember half the shit that happens.

Depends on the time of day. In general, I need it for professional reasons every day of the week, so... I couldn't go without it a day.

On a personal level, I could get by without it most of the time, and then just use something like Skype/Zoom/Teams in place of calling. It'd be less convenient, but whatever.

"Schuyler Sisters" is what got me interested in the OBC, so maybe I'll give a spot to that.

"Ten Duel Commandments" is probably a given.

I think "Right Hand Man" might still be my favorite.

And I can't not do "Stay Alive" (#ImAGeneralWhee)

But fuck, that just leaves me with one, and I still have "Wait for It," "Non-Stop," and "Helpless"/"Satisfied" (which are practically one song).... and that's not even going into the second act. (Although, honestly, the second act is less packed. A lot of the songs are slower paced, and a bit more boring.) I'm *probably* going to say "Wait for It" although "Non-Stop" is a lot catchier

I mean, goddamn, there are hardly any lackluster songs in Hamilton. I think the only ones I usually skip are "Story of Tonight" and "Say No to This" (which is slow as fuck and goes forever... and is overly melodramatic and tries to excuse his shit; LMM makes it sound like that was his only affair but, as one person put it, Hamilton "suffered from a superabundance of secretions")

...though to be fair, I'm not really a fan of most modern Broadway musicals in general. About the only musical theater I really like is Phantom, Les Mis, and Chess (basically, stuff centered pretty strongly on the 80s aesthetic). Maybe one or two others here and there, but for the most part I've always been left pretty cold by the most critically-acclaimed Broadway shows.

A shame that the Disney+ version fucking sucks. The thing was just a weirdly engineered mess. Honestly, the pirated version where the guy had cover his camera with his hands so ushers didn't catch him looked better.
