There is something I find gripping about artists with unusual voices, and Corgan is undeniably among the strangest singers to achieve mainstream success. He inflects every word with a nasally quality, one that borders on grating at times. But as a songwriter, he knows how to write for his voice. I also find myself sometimes wanting to listen to a song just because the singer sounds so unique. I remember getting a lot of grief from a roommate in college whenever I played Smashing Pumpkins because he couldnt stand Corgans voice, but as you said, it works for his songs. |
