The problems with that are

1. Tucker's pretty much never right
2. When he is right, it's usually for nefarious reasons as part of some larger grift

I think the "Anybody can do it so it's not cheating!" argument is kinda a silly one, especially when it comes to stuff like sports penalties and beyond, since that's like arguing that since anybody can go online and download Aimbot hacks for Warzone, it's not cheating to use them. If you're specifically taking an action you know you're not supposed to do in order to gain an advantage, it doesn't matter if others can also choose to take that action, it's still cheating. Just because other racers can also choose to trip each other in a foot race doesn't mean it's not cheating if I trip somebody.

Obviously where screen peeking gets hazy is the whole "You know you're not supposed to do it" thing may not apply, since there's a good chance somebody might not know they shouldn't look at the other person's screen unless there's some kind of agreement in place, and in fact it may even be welcomed.

That's why I brought up retail as the example, since I have experience with it. I've worked on the floor in several places, and as a member of management for Kmart, Walmart, Best Buy, and Lowes, and all of them had cameras everywhere but the restrooms, the breakroom/employee lockers, and the parking lot. Working retail so long (pretty much my entire life until the last few years) made it seem normal to me.

I think your opinion of it would change if upper management installed cameras in your office to make sure you were always doing what you were supposed to do and not sending non-work related texts. I think the constant threat of monitoring is going to add undue stress to people who are very likely working a bad job anyway.

Like, part of the reason it changed from "ew no" to "necessary evil" in my mind was when I figured out stuff like "Well now we know how that display got broken, Johnny rode a flatbed into it" or "Well now we know why our number one complaint from customers is that they can't find anybody to help them, employees are purposely avoiding them." It made me start to think... These people are being paid to do the job, it's sometimes the only way to catch them not doing what they're paid to be doing.

I'm not saying I don't understand the issues against it, obviously. I'm just explaining what formed my thought process of not being bothered that people are most likely monitoring me in some way at work (to reasonable expectations, of course. No bathroom peeking, no breakroom peeking, etc.)

Obviously there's a legitimate expectation of privacy for actual private matters like going to the bathroom, though. That's quite a bit different than out in the actual store.

EDIT: And it's not even just about productivity. If somebody gets hurt falling off a flatbed they're riding because they're a dumbass, or worse, runs into a customer, there are bigger problems at hand.

To be honest, I used to hate it as an entry-level worker, but when I moved up to management and realized just how often workers were just fucking around, it completely changed my opinion of it.

Like, I always figured "As long as I get the work done, who cares." But then when I saw workers doing things like riding flatbeds down the aisles or purposely disappearing down aisles to avoid customers, it made me realize there were problems that weren't going to just be caught by physically walking around the store, so my opinion changed to it being a necessary evil. My opinion's likely skewed because of it.

I'm curious of the opinions here on the fact that Amazon is putting cameras in their trucks to monitor drivers.

The politics board here is freaking out saying it's authoritarian and illegal since it goes against the worker's right to privacy, but... I don't see the issue? It's no different than being monitored when working retail, which, if you work retail, you're absolutely being monitored, those cameras are used more to monitor employees than to actually stop theft. To me, it's a company owned truck that the only thing you should be doing in is working on company time, so I don't get where the "authoritarian" stuff comes in, but maybe I'm missing something
