Except there is and will only be one original of a particular painting. Even if an artist made more copies, it doesn't change the original being the original. Scarcity is where it gets its value. The value of the actual image isn't important outside of its pop culture relevance. The best you can do for an original video is obtain the medium on which it was recorded, but it's still not the same as a unique physical item. NFTs seem to be the equivalent of a signed last-print CD that someone is massively overvaluing as the original work just because they decided to make a market out of it.

You are almost there. It's not scarcity, there is no such thing as scarcity when it comes to an original, there is one and only ever one. The desire is in the ownership of the original. Whether you think it will last or not, NFT's are the agreement among commodity traders that it represent the original of a thing that doesn't have physical form. Think something like what they do with autograph certification, there is no way to say that autograph really is what someone says it is, so the market relies on a group certifying that it is. An NFT is a certification that you own the original of a digital media.

It's an attempt to create scarcity, in a medium that resists that.

The end result is going to be people wasting a fuckton of money just to create a new Streisand Effect every half-second or so.

There isn't anything scarce about the image of 'Starry Night' and yet the original is possibly the most valuable piece of art in existence. NFT's aren't about scarcity or control, they are about ownership of an commodity that they believe will be more desirable (e.g valuable) in the future. The only difference between this and standard crypto is each block has a value unto itself instead of as the whole.

Well, the evidence so far suggests that the vaccine will reduce this as well.

Not exactly, or at least not in any studies I have seen. In small group testing they have seen a reduction in viral load (viral load is generally used as a measure of infectiousness for a person), but it is not clear what the thresholds are for Covid where you would label one non-infectious/infectious/highly infectious.

So there is promising information that it may help, but there are still studies going on to determine if the reduction is in fact meaningful.

Explain how fully vaccinated people can gather with each other is crazy pills

I can take a crack at that.
It's because it belies the fact of how vaccinations work. Vaccinations do not prevent you from contracting (and then more importantly, transmitting) Covid. By gathering people together without precautions you are just creating more vectors for transmissions. Sure those people are likely safe (even some of the vaccinated will still get a bad case of Covid, don't remember the percent off-hand but it is tiny), but what about all the people after that event that they might interact with that may not be fully vaccinated.

People treating vaccination of themselves as the end of the crisis are just making things worse for everyone else until we are able to completely vaccinate the community.

Doesn't seem clear to me. It's literally just "well Elon says that wasn't it, so we should believe him" lol

Not quite, by the published documentation of how the feature is supposed to work the original statements of the incident are not possible. Which at the very least means the police were talking out of their ass as they would not be able to know any thing like that without an investigation to prove something wasn't working correctly.

Sword of Damocles really says there are only two viable options left. First, user error, either willfully evading the rules for use of auto-pilot or maybe even patching unsupported firmware to misuse the feature.
Second and even more likely, the facts of the incident have been reported incorrectly so far. Perhaps the driver was behind the wheel and then trying to escape through the passenger side.
In a distant third you can still hold out hope for system error if you want, but if so then Elon is talking out of his ass and hasn't checked into at all, which would be incredibly irresponsible as a CEO, so only kind of par for the course with Elon.

For what it's worth, it doesn't really matter what the trial is about, public officials should not comment about an ongoing trial for the risk of muddling a current or future jury pool. Even freaking Nixon didn't comment on the Manson family trial for that reason. The last thing you'd want would be to give the defense an avenue for an appeal or mistrial.

I don't remotely buy the argument that she was inciting violence, though.

I'm going to disagree, we live in a 24 hour media circus compounded by an ever present social media, by what bar could you possibly say that Maxine Waters words hold some extra powerful sway in the sea of opinion pieces. You could maybe make a case for the President using a national address would violate a fair trial, but I can't honestly say any one or situation lower than that is capable of doing meaningful damage.
