It has to be some sort of matter, otherwise they couldn't interact with our universe, so we should easily be able to detect them, visible or not. Or how about why do all ghosts come from the last few centuries when humans have been around for more than 100,000 years? Why are there so few ghosts when more than 100 billion people have died throughout the existence of humans? Why does it seem like there are no animal ghosts? Or if there are, why aren't the trillions or more animal and insect ghosts obvious to us? With those numbers, we should be guaranteed to see many of them. If animals specifically don't have ghosts, then when did ghosts start to appear in our evolutionary line and why? Why aren't more houses haunted when basically any area people have lived will have had multiple people die there at some point in the past? And so on.
