Outside of those typing classes where they made you use it, I don't think I've ever in my life used the right shift for anything.

It depends on which hand Im using to type the letter (or whatever) that requires the Shift.

Whichever feels best at the time. I think I typically go with the opposite finger of the next keystroke.

Who uses right? It's too far. The left shift is right under the A-key, and you use it while easily maintaining home row presence with the rest of your fingers and hit the normal left-side keys. The right shift requires you to move your hand, or at least stretch enough that you need to move some fingers out of position. Typing a capital Y while using right shift is terrible.
