They should do away with that mechanic entirely In a casual playthrough, EVs are not necessary 99% of the time. You will accrue them naturally just by battling, but the game is typically balanced so all your EVs more or less end up evenly distributed. Actually training specific EVs is a mechanic for the competitive players most of the time. Also, competitive play and casual play are two very very different beasts. If you play the single player game the way Nintendo/GameFreak intend, you shouldn't have an issue most of the time. If you go into the Elite Four with a competitive mindset, EV trained, bred for egg moves, everyone is level 100, all that, you can actually have a much more difficult time. Likewise if you take your casual team into a competitive environment you'll probably be used to wipe the floor. The way I think about personality values is the IVs and nature are the "DNA" of a Pokemon. At the most basic level these aspects separate Pokemon of the same species from each other. Then EVs are the "skills", you train up the aspects of the pokemon you want them to excel at. At the end of the day it's just another method to distinguish Pokemon of the same species from each other. While there are more or less agreed upon "correct" EVs to train on each Pokemon, sometimes you can get away with doing some really really weird stuff, even if it's only useful in specific situations. --- Nintendo Network ID: papercups 3DS FC: 4124 5916 9925 |

| papercup 03/06/21 2:59:09 PM #4 | So not every Pokemon is obtainable or even usable in Gen 8. At launch only 400 Pokemon were actually coded into the game. The other 500 simply could not be moved over from Home. About 200 or so have been added back in in the DLC, but also the given reason for why not every Pokemon was in the game was total bullshit. They said they wanted to make the available Pokemon all look really nice and make new animations. They didn't do any of this. The same models and attack animations from gens 6 and 7 are reused. Also the story mode is baaaaaaaaad. But, it did bring a ton of really nice qol changes though. You can completely EV train a pokemon just with vitamins. You can teach egg moves at the daycare. You can change natures and even unlock hidden abilities with rare items. Also Rare Candies, and Experience Candies are given out liberally. Normally Hattrems cannot have G-Max. Hatterene can have a G-Max form, but neither of its pre-evolutions can. I checked raid dens until I found a 3-star Hattrem. Opened it up, and lo and behold it was also shiny. Caught it, and it had the G-Max factor. This is a Pokemon that cannot normally exist. Now I don't know what they're going to do with this. They have accidentally put impossible Pokemon into raid dens before but patched them out. Shiny Hatterene is a Pokemon I want, but having a shiny impossible Pokemon is just swag to show off. I think I'm going to hold onto it and see what they do. If they put out a patch to remove the G-Max factor on Hattrems, then I'll evolve it and give it the soup. For the 20th they did a year long event where they released a mythical Pokemon every month up to Sun/Moon's release. You'd think they would do something similar. Or here's an idea. They're not shy about adding new Pokemon mid generation now. Design a new mythical specifically for the anniversary, and have some kind of in game distribution and unlock event that everyone can do together. They didn't even mention plans for Home or Sword/Shield or anything. Just "hey here's 2 new games! Bye!".
