VIMP is very nice PMD music. A lot of PMD music has that very distinct style, but in a way where it's similar to one another, so it's sort of hard to pick a favorite. --- WOAH XEPHER IS COOL!! I swear I've heard this somewhere before, but in case I didn't, let's just say this is one of my favorite discoveries! Congrats to Elegy for finally making it in to the contest. This one is kinda growing on me, but Xepher easily beats everything else today! --- Calling is cheesy, but in a fun way! Teknopathetic sounds very '90s, yep this is Naganuma. --- |

| FL81 06/08/21 2:59:06 AM #27 | Vrdels Mikazuchi High Above the Land NOTE TO HOSTS: If we are listing the arranger in the composer field for the tracks (as has been done for a few other songs), I'm pretty sure Kevin Penkin was the arranger for Vrdels. Vrdels is kind of a weird song, since it's very atmospheric (and I have been ragging hard on atmospheric songs this year), but Kevin Penkin is COOL and throws in a bunch of ethereal spacey sounds that makes this song have the feeling of a deep expanse!! I don't know what language this is, but it sounds cool and adds a nice element to this. I'M BACK to write VGM writeups (it's finally my weekend huzzah). 9 minute long song but this keeps it fresh the whole time. This is totally the thing Popcorn_Fairy would've liked (R.I.P. bro ). This is somehow the only close match for me today, two songs in styles that I'm normally "ehhh w/e" on, but they're both done very well! --- Oh no, Mikazuchi ESCAPED from an Ys or Trails soundtrack and is now hiding out in the Ar Nosurge soundtrack! Mikazuchi doesn't really do too many of the cool things that Exa Pico music does to set itself apart, and as is just sounds like some wannabe Falcom song. At this point just nominate more Falcom!! The Thief is a perfect example of that aforementioned atmospheric music that I don't like. It throws in "different" vocals like Vrdels, but it uhh doesn't really work here. Not feeling this one. --- Nilin the Memory Hunter sounds like they decided to compose a generic Hollywood movie theme, but the composer got BORED and decided to just play around with his audio software and add in some glitchy sound effects. What exactly does this add? I dunno! The "skippy" intro to High Above the Land is giving me flashbacks to Nilin the Memory Hunter and I never would've put that together if not for the fact that this was matched up against Nilin the Memory Hunter! This is Shovel Knight music, it's okay. --- |

Narrowly failed to get this in last year, but it's here now! Cool electric guitar + organ prog metal thing going on here. City Ruins certainly is Nier music, ehhh there's a lot better though. --- The Battle Was Just "To Continue That Future" (wow what a title, also why is "To Continue That Future" in quotation marks?) is a dancey electronic song, but the background guitar is a nice touch. VoP is one of those songs that just slaps together a whole bunch of different things I like into something I *surprise* still like! This is actually a very close match. --- BoF is super cool and it totally reminds me of something, but I don't know what!! These MRD songs have all been pretty cool discoveries. There's like one Katamari song I really like, and this isn't it --- |

Oh hi Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen, a game I beat not too long ago! YES, this is, in fact, a final boss theme! I love the idea of having a slow, somber ballad as the final boss theme for a game, but the only other example I can think of is --- DigiFamily is the first DV-i song I've heard (thank you VGMGG), and is still my favorite! Neat instrument mix in this. We All Lift Together is an above-average bluesy folk song, I kinda like this. --- HARDEST R1 MATCH!!! Space Mode is my #1 favorite discovery this year, and I'm super happy this managed to make it into the bracket! But, it's up against one of my favorite VGM ever MARIA is better than all of the other songs that sound identical to MARIA --- |
