Yeah I was thinking that as well. But I added them for the storytelling qualifier. When they do longer games with a lot of dialog, their voices and improv add a lot to the narrative as far as entertainment goes.

Howdy! Invisos MCU topic was a huge success and brought in a lot of new rankers to submit lists along with the Gauntlet Crew. Im hoping that trend will continue with the next list, Westerns! It will be hosted by me, StifledSilence.

Now your gut reaction might be that Westerns are all one-note, shoot the natives, white dudes in hats kinds of movies. In some cases thats definitely true. However! Westerns can also bend genres and show surprising versatility. Strong female leads? Strong black leads? Strong Hispanic leads? Lotsa spaghetti? Comedy? Kung fu? Horror? Outer space? Whatever the fuck Wild Wild West is aiming for? Weve got that shit in spades, partner. Check the list out in the next post!

Bear in mind, I made two lists. This is Westerns 1. Westerns 2 will be done in the future. Chances are, the movies you will be asking Stifled you moron, where is ____ are on that list.

I would like you nice folks to watch these movies and rank them from your favorite (1st) to your least favorite (30th). Feel free to include write ups as well. They can be as short or as long as youd like.

Send your lists to [email protected]

The deadline is June 6th, 2021. If more time is needed, Ill be happy to give an extension. But until then, feel free to discuss the list, show interest in participating, tell me to go to hell, whatever. Please enjoy!

NOTE: I am redoing the topic because I was able to add the True Grit remake to the list. The future Coen Bros project was divided up between Westerns and Crime films. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs will be added to Westerns 2 yay!

If so I petition it being in topic 2.

Yes indeed. Im considering swapping it into Westerns 2. Its currently on a potential Westerns 3.

This is my biggest issue with participating. The lists have a significant number of movies I havent seen yet, and just looking into it superficially, a bunch of them arent available on any streaming platforms. So while Im interested, Im not sure how I would be able to see all the movies.

Another idea I had was maybe holding livestream sessions here and there of my collection if anyone had trouble finding some. I own pretty much the whole list.

I think it's also would be neat to directly compare the different takes on Wyatt Earp/Doc Holliday/Gunfight at the OK Corral. There's been at least 5 or 6 over the last 60+ years.

I generally did that, though I noticed I had My Darling Clementine and Tombstone split up for some reason. So I will swap Tombstone into list #1. Thanks for noticing that.

I think it's a big ask to have people watch 30 movies in a month. I'm assuming you're thinking a month. I'd like to participate but it's simply too much of my free time to do a movie a day.

There's also the possible issue of whether all of these are available on streaming services as easily as most of the Marvel stuff is.

If it was me, I'd aim for around 12-15 max for a month. Maybe do a month of Westerns, then a month of something else, then go back to Westerns again, etc so that people don't get burnt out.

On the nomination side, I think there's value in having multiple versions of a movie. It's been years since I watched them but I remember both versions of 3:10 to Yuma having a very different vibe to them, to the point where I could appreciate the differences instead of thinking of one as "canonical".

I think it's also would be neat to directly compare the different takes on Wyatt Earp/Doc Holliday/Gunfight at the OK Corral. There's been at least 5 or 6 over the last 60+ years.

Im gonna give 3 months to complete the list of 30, dont worry. Plus extensions if needed.

Im also gonna try to provide updates during that three months as to what services have the movies for either free or included with the service (Prime, Netflix, etc).

As for the movies with multiple versions, some of those are tied up in other projects. For example, the newer True Grit will be in a future Coen Brothers project, and the older 3:10 to Yuma will be in a future Books Based on Movies project.

I currently have two lists with 30 movies each. Westerns 1 and Westerns 2. The next list we do would be Westerns 1. But we have options! I can condense all the most important ones together into one list of 40. Or I can keep the split if 30 is preferred per project.

What would you all prefer? Im down for either.

For reference, these are my planned lists:

Westerns 1 (30)

Stagecoach (1939)
My Darling Clementine (1946)
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948)
High Noon (1952)

For a Few Dollars More (1965)
Django (1966)

I think the problem with Gamora is shes not the best at any of her own attributes. Shes supposed to be the badass female of the group, but Nebula is better at that. Shes also supposed to be the comedic straight man of the group, but the others also carry that torch depending on whos the butt of the joke. She ends up just being along for the ride and I end up not caring shes there.
