You have to realize anytime it gets below freezing in Houston it actually creates chaos on roads. People don't know how to handle the ice. Look at that pile up in Fort Worth.

It's the same when heatwaves kill people up north. A lot of older people don't have air condition so some 100F weather can be deadly.

It's from Hypnospace Outlaw game that came out in 2019. I know it's going for the comedy parody route, but it ended so being actually really heartfelt. The chorus is so timeless. Like some actual real 80s Christmas ballad lost to time.

A lot of our memories are locked away unaccessible on a whim because it would overwhelm us. However, our brain instantly recognize patterns and then that memory is accessed perfectly at the time it is needed.

This is why creative improvisation feels like magic. Creators aren't just pulling things from thin air. Somehow the brain can actually grow this aspect of accessible memory storage. I do it when playing piano.

Now someone like Robin Williams had a genius level of accessible memories he could pull together in a fusion of ideas leading to brilliant comedy.

It's why I'm so attached to music and memories. Especially with video game music that plays in certain areas of games. I take walks a lot and change up routines. That helps form more memories too.

The whole thing about being young and enjoying life really is true. The variety of experience makes ways for memories as you get older. If you're always doing the same mundane life then yeah it will feel like a blur.

Also, keep a journal and dream journal. You'll be surprised how it's like unlocking a lost memory years later reading.

DKC - Aquatic Ambiance
DKC - Jungle Hijinx
DKC2 - Stickerbush Symphony
DKC2 - Forest Interlude
Diddy Kong Racing - Darkmoon Caverns
Star Fox Adventures - Thorntail Hollow
DKC Tropical Freeze - Windmill Hills
DKC Tropical Freeze - Canopy Chaos
DKC Tropical Freeze - Grassland Groove
DKC Tropical Freeze - Funky Waters
Snake Pass - Sog-Gee's Realm

This really shows David Wise's signature style so well. The style that goes beyond just DKC.

It does feel surreal, but then again local radio still exists. I was a radio DJ for a college in a BIG city. I was able to play video game music on the radio in the middle of the day. One of the most rewarding experiences ever.

Older forms of technology can still be rewarding. Also, nothing like going to the library and just finding random books to browse. I know basically everything has a pdf file out there somewhere, but still nothing like going to a library.

Playing physical games at this point is dated. I have a CRT TV hooked up to my old consoles. Yeah, there's other ways to play the games. Yet, I still prefer the traditional way when I can.

Network television I can imagine does the same thing for a lot of people.

I just beat the game a few days ago and would give it a 10/10. The Y2K era setting is exactly when I started to use the internet as I was a preteen turning into a teenager. It really does capture the era so well.

As a music nerd myself, the attention to music in the game is mind blowing. There are over a 100 fictional bands and even made up music genres with their own communities within the game.

If you break the game down as a genre it's a point & click adventure game, but set within an internet simulation with elements of surveillance/detective gameplay. So it's a game in every sense of the of the way, but does something totally unique enough to really be its own genre.

I'm so glad I never used a guide for the game. When I figured somethings out I felt like a genius. The coolest quality of the game is that all the web pages connect somehow to the entire story and gameplay. The world building and lore actually matter. Reading will get you towards the end.

It makes me want a GTA set in the early 00s now that the era is clearly a whole different era than in 2021. I realize GTA3 was set then, but now we have a new perspective. It could be more of an over the top satire that looks at the Y2K era. This time it could also have iconic music of that era as well like Eminem, OutKast, Daft Punk, Linkin Park, System of a Down, The Strokes, Britney Spears, Daddy Yankee, Audioslave, etc... At the time GTA3 had a soundtrack that didn't really represent that era.

Cyberpunk is immersing me in a totally different way and I'm fine with that. I'm big into architecture and city planning. The lore in Cyberpunk is also deep. So Night City itself is my main appeal of the game for me. I do wish for the emergent gameplay of GTA though.

The mindblowing thing in GTA3 for me was how ambulance responded to dead npcs and would revive them. The npcs would have a unique dialogue just for being saved.

Watch Dogs Legions is quite mindblowing with the npcs that actually do have schedules. However, the world isn't as interactive as GTA.

I mean this game isn't GTA. It's not built on emergent npc behavior and not really a sandbox game. People are forgetting it's still a wrpg. Yes, it's open world but the design follows its own path.

I mean in GTA there's not as many interiors that are seamless as Cyberpunk. I can't build my character in a roleplaying manner in GTA. Enemies don't scale based on type and location. The side missions don't go as into depth as Cyberpunk. Since 2001 Rockstar hasn't made a fully original city from the ground up like Night City. The gunplay and hacking in Cyberpunk is more refined than GTA. It has stealth elements as well.

Yes, I am defending a buggy game. Sue me. Subjectively I love the game.

The use of Dualsense rumble in Astro's Playroom is actually legit next level. However, it's annoying with some other games I've played like the PS5 version of Fortnite or Worms Rumble.

Like above post said, with VR it's extremely important. Really it all comes down to the proper use of it. If it's distracting and making my hands go numb because everything has rumble to the max then yeah it will be annoying.

Developers should use it as a tool and not think of it as necessary if they don't want to or at least have simple options on the level of intensity.

Battle royale genre will be iconic for gaming in the 10s. Fortnite and PUBG weren't necessarily first ones, but first to become mainstream. There's been countless clones and fresh takes on the genre. The Fortnite World Cup was a huge special event.

VR will probably be more defining in the 20s and beyond, but it was the 10s where it all started. This will be more defining for gamers in general as its still niche.

Twitch/streamers became celebrities in the 10s. People like Ninja go on The Tonight Show.

The Switch I think will hold a lot of nostalgia for the 10s years to come.

Minecraft was made in 00s but didn't became a worldwide sensation till the 10s. It will be Zoomers core nostalgia for the 10s like Millenials hold Mario/Sonic for the 80s/90s.

Pokemon Go for real. This was more of a summer of 2016 mini zeitgeist moment. It was something you just had to be there for. Literal parks became full of people of all ages overnight catching Pokemon.

I'll just focus on music

Mainstream EDM genres emerged like brostep, future bass, trap, bass house, future house, complextro, moombahton, tropical house, etc..

Dubstep as a whole had it's mainstream spotlight with brostep in early 10s, but has remained more of an undercurrent. Chillstep, melodic dubstep, riddim, tearout, deathstep are some of the big subgenres that have grown.

Bass oriented EDM like trap splintered into hybrid trap, heaven trap, dark trap, etc.. Wave music also emerged. Juche is a good example. Midtempo bass which is a sort of industrial/cyber bass oriented genre came to be. Listen to Rezz for midtempo bass. Freeform/space bass like Liquid Stranger is very underground but has really grown. Halftime is like bass heavy quirky drum n bass in literal halftime that also emerged.

Future bass like I said became mainstream with artist such as Marshmello and Flume. A subgenre called kawaii bass in the mid 10s splintered off and is growing. Snail's House and Hyper Potions are good example.

Vapor music in a broad sense which includes vaporwave, future funk, mallsoft, dreampunk, broken transmission, vaportrap, hardvapour, utopian virtual, etc.. all emerged in 2010s underground. Macintosh Plus, Blank Banshee, Saint Pepsi are some examples.

Mainstream/alternative rock was defined hugely by stomp rock like Imagine Dragons. Indie pop/rock as well like Foster The People or Walk The Moon. Think of music inspired by MGMT.

Trap rap literally took over the hip-hop world. What is sometimes called mumble rap is a big part of it. Drill, UK drill, cloud rap, meme rap, emo rap have also became mainstream. Trap metal emerged in later half of 10s.

Kawaii metal like Babymetal became mainstream and even had hit songs on US charts. Alt-Idol is a broader category of Japanese artists using J-pop and blending it new ways like kawaii metal.

Alt pop/synthpop like Grimes, Chvrches, Lorde, Billie Eilish became mainstream. It's less of specific genre. Moreso of an overall style for indie inspired pop with modern production.

Synthwave which started in 00s became partly mainstream 10s. See Stranger Things and Drive soundtrack or The Midnight band. It has also splintered into smaller subgenres

K-Pop literally became a global phenomenon. Psy and BTS became well known artists everywhere.

Mainstream western pop had an electropop phase which started in late 00s but continued in first half of 10s. Think Max Martin produced Katy Perry in early 10s. That dembow dancehall/reggaeton beat was prevalent in pop like Ed Sheeran, Major Lazer, Justin Bieber. Chainsmokers made a future bass pop fusion.

Epic/trailer music was used massively in movie trailers. I'm sure you've heard Two Steps From Hell music and didn't even realize. Think of Hans Zimmer PotC soundtrack on steroids. Now you can hear this epic music used in many military /battle royale shooters

Mainstream country music had its bro-country phase. Think of Luke Bryan. Basically light twangy pop/r&b beats fused with country pop of the 00s.

In general music education became so easy to access with youtubers like Adam Neely, Rick Beato, etc... Also, you can literally find tutorials on how to make so many genres.

I merely scratched the surface
