LA has a couple of the most out of place team names in sports.
Dodgers were a nickname to people who had to dodge all the trolleys in Brooklyn, not so much in LA.
Lakers originally were based in Minneapolis, a city and state known for lakes.
Along with the Utah Jazz, a team originally from New Orleans and the Arizona Cardinals, originally from Chicago and you have 4 wtf were they thinking moments.

And the worst move is the Supersonics.

I think alot of the bad reputation comes from all those 80's movies that were made from mediocre novels, like Firestarter, Cujo, Christine, and Pet Sematary and made into forgettable movies. The adaptations have been better lately in part because at this point King has more say in creative control and has a say in the director as opposed to just selling the right to a studio and leaving it all to chance.
