On Thursday, July 23, before the Opening Day game between the New York Yankees and Washington Nationals, President Donald Trump announced he would be throwing out the first pitch at a Yankees-Red Sox game at Yankee Stadium in August.

Speaking from the White House, Trump said he accepted an offer from Yankees president Randy Levine.

Randy Levines a great friend of mine from the Yankees Trump said. He asked me to throw out the first pitch. And I think Im doing that on August 15 at Yankee Stadium. And I said, Hows the crowd going to be? And, its like, You dont have a crowd. Theres no such thing. Its gonna be interesting.

Three days later, Trump said he had to decline the offer.

Because of my strong focus on the China Virus, Trump tweeted, referring to the coronavirus, including scheduled meetings on Vaccines, our economy and much else, I wont be able to be in New York to throw out the opening pitch for the @Yankees on August 15th. We will make it later in the season!

However there is a new angle to Trumps first pitch decision. The New York Times reports Trump never received an offer from the Yankees to play ball on Aug. 15.

Mr. Trump had not actually been invited on that day by the Yankees, according to one person with knowledge of Mr. Trumps schedule. His announcement surprised both Yankees officials and the White House staff.

According to the New York Times, Trumps first pitch announcement was motivated by the fact that Dr. Anthony Fauci was throwing out the first pitch on Opening Day at Nationals Park before the game between Yankees and Nationals.

Mr. Trump had been so annoyed by Dr. Faucis turn in the limelight, an official familiar with his reaction said, that he had directed his aides to call Yankees officials and make good on a longtime standing offer from Mr. Levine to throw out an opening pitch. No date was ever finalized.

Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is the leading immunologist in the country and the face of the Trump administrations fight against COVID-19.

Thursday at Nationals Park, his first pitch was just a bit outside. NBC Sports Peter King explains why:

He told Ben Cohen of the Wall Street Journal he hadnt thrown a baseball in years, so he went out Tuesday night to play catch at a D.C. school, and when he woke up Wednesday morning his arm was killing him. When Ubisoft Entertainment SA hired Mike Laidlaw, the well-respected designer of the Dragon Age video game series, in late 2018, expectations were high. Fans were excited to see what kind of game he might be dreaming up next.

In fact, Laidlaw was directing development of a role-playing game code-named Avalon, according to people familiar with the project. It was a big-budget adventure involving stories of King Arthur and his Round Table in a sword-and-sorcery fantasy world full of knights and legends. But just over a year later, before releasing any games, Laidlaw quit.

According to current and former employees, Avalon was canceled by Ubisofts powerful chief creative officer, Serge Hascot. Wielding an unusual amount of control over content at the French publishing powerhouse, Hascot was credited for blockbuster franchises like Far Cry, a first-person shooter series, and Assassins Creed, a series of action games based on historical events like the Crusades and in settings such as ancient Egypt. But Hascot wasnt a fan of the fantasy genre and set a high bar for the Avalon team in Quebec City, Canada. If they were going to make a fantasy game, it had to be better than Tolkien, he told them, according to people familiar with the project.

Hascot resigned earlier this month after multiple allegations of sexual misconduct at the company, including accusations that he enabled and facilitated a frat house-like culture. His grip on power also stifled creativity at Ubisoft, according to people familiar with the companys internal procedures. Current and former Ubisoft developers said Hascot rejected some ideas with great potential and alienated high-profile employees, limiting the companys potential.

Laidlaw and an Ubisoft spokesperson declined to comment. Hascot did not respond to requests for comment.

Last year, Ubisoft released two big flops: The Division 2, which was critically acclaimed but commercially underwhelming; and Ghost Recon Breakpoint, which was panned by critics and fans. By the end of the year, Ubisofts stock had fallen 40% from its high a year earlier. As a result, Ubisoft reorganized its editorial division in an attempt to diversify its games. Two of the people promoted at the time, Maxime Bland and Tommy Franois, are the subject of a company investigation for sexual misconduct claims. Beland has resigned; Francoiss employment status remains unclear.

In the wake of the harassment scandal Chief Executive Officer Yves Guillemot has promised big cultural changes. Some Ubisoft employees are wondering if the companys creative structure will change too, diversifying the leadership ranks and creating an opportunity for a more expansive and potentially lucrative list of titles.

Ubisoft has sometimes been criticized by fans and pundits for using similar tropes and ideas for many of its games. Its biggest franchises, including Watch Dogs, Far Cry and the Tom Clancy games, are all vast open worlds with realistic settings, which was no coincidence. Before Avalon, Hascot rejected pitches for several other fantasy-style games, according to people familiar with Ubisofts development processes." Hascot, and Ubisoft's marketing department, also prevented the developers of the last three Assassin's Creed games from writing larger roles for their female protagonists, Bloomberg Businessweek has reported.

Within Ubisofts management, Hascot was seen as responsible for the success of the open-world formula that turned the publishers franchises into blockbusters. But his level of power was unique in the industry. Most other game publishers have multiple creative decision-makers rather than a single person, a setup that Cowen & Co. analyst Doug Creutz said may be more effective.

I think it is a good thing to have a brain trust of a relatively small number of highly experienced, creative, and diverse people, Creutz said. But vesting all that power in a single person is risky.

The people who worked on Avalon said the project had been progressing well. It featured a cooperative multiplayer world similar to Capcom Co.s popular Monster Hunter series. The games developers were shocked to see the project impeded simply because the chief creative officer didnt like its setting, they said.

In an effort to salvage the project throughout 2019, Laidlaw and his team pitched new themes. They switched the setting, trying one that was more science fiction and one based on Greek mythology. But Hascot shot down all of these ideas, and by last fall, the game was canceled, the people familiar with the project said. Laidlaw left in January.

Now, Ubisoft has an opportunity to rethink its reliance on a single creative decision-maker. The company has said Guillemot will temporarily fill the role of chief creative officer, and there is speculation that one of Hascots former disciples may eventually take the title.

But some observers both inside and out of Ubisoft say that diffusing power at the company instead may lead to stronger and more successful games.

If you look at Ubisofts history, they have had a lot of good games, but not a lot of truly great ones, Creutz said. Theyve never had that breakout hit that defines a company like Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto or World of Warcraft. I dont think that absence is due to a talent gap in their rank and file versus other studios.

Lower Intensity Combat

Lower intensity mode is meant to maintain the heart and feel of Ghost of Tsushima combat while relaxing several timing-specific elements. Combat is less intense, giving you more time to react. Stealth settings are more forgiving, and enemies take longer to detect you.

Most enemy attacks which are normally unblockable become blockable when Lower Intensity is enabled. Blocking with L1 will keep you safe from more attacks than standard combat, though some attacks must still be dodged.
Enemies break off their attack combos after damaging you, giving you a chance to recover before the next wave of attacks. In addition, your heavy attacks will interrupt attacks from Brutes, giving you another way to stop their combos.
Enemies will not attack you while youre using Resolve to heal
Enemy awareness builds more slowly, giving you more time to recover after being spotted

Text changes

Large Text option: Increases text size of subtitles, mission objectives and interact prompts by 150% when enabled
Added option to turn speaker name off when subtitles are enabled

The Marlins had 4 players, 3 of which are starters, test positive so far and now the team is staying in Philadelphia until tomorrow "just in case".

There's a number of other teams that have had one or two players either test positive or are isolating "just in case" because they're feeling sick and (assuming) haven't had test results come back yet.

And Rockstar/RDR2 was mentioned in this topic - there's literally an encounter (I don't remember if it was an actual mission) where a guy invites you into his shack and as soon as you walk in you're knocked out and it's heavily implied the guy rapes your character and then dumps you in a clearing.

It comes out of absolutely nowhere and, imo, is in no way shape or form handled "properly".

I don't disagree with your point. I wasn't arguing that torture in games are okay or not okay. As a matter of fact, I consider murder to be, by far, one of the worst crimes to commit, yet we freely do it in videogames with zero concern. Is rape a greater crime than murder? My argument is more that what people are sensitive to is somewhat senseless, as there's far worse out there that we turn a blind eye to. I hate to say it, but it's all a matter of trend.

Having said that, I *DO* feel that adhering to what people are sensitive to is important when putting out products like this. People are very sensitive to tackling issues of rape, thus it should be treated with care with implementing it in products.

Like I was thinking, if you were going to put a rape scene in a game (and I'm talking like a STRONG scene like Irreversible or The Last House on the Left), you'd basically have to also put in a way to skip or bypass it for people who either can't handle it or have no desire to go through it (I'd fall in the latter category).

But then at that point, you're basically admitting that including the scene isn't the greatest idea...so why even have it? Which kind of ties in to me not having any confidence in any studio actually handling it properly.

Honestly, he makes a lot of sense, but we don't live in a world that makes any sense. Torture is FAR worse than rape, but society's mindset has been tuned to feel more sympathetic to rape victims than torture victims. Knowing that, however, they shouldn't add it because they do need take what people are sensitive to in mind when developing games.

I think the argument against torture is more that games (and movies but that's not this topic) present it as something it's not.

And if you're going to show torture is useless, why even include it in the first place?
