Well, betting wouldn't be too impacted. Most places scratch a lot of these games due to so many "last minute" changes. Same with fantasy football, really, since you're already taking a chance starting a player if a bunch of their team (or the opposing team) is out with COVID to begin with.

Though like I said, I meant forfeiting moreso as a "If you can't field/staff the team in time, that's your own dumb fault" kind of measure. I fully stick by the idea that they should be making teams play with whoever they've got instead of rescheduling games.

And to be clear, I'm not saying they should like, preemptively enforce forfeits or anything. If you've got a few players out, whatever. I'm saying they should have never started postponing stuff in the first place. The precedent should have been set that you've gotta play with who you've got, and if you were so extremely negligent that you can't do that, then a forfeit should be considered.

Because it's literally letting teams be fucking dumbasses with no punishment to them whatsoever.

If a team's star player/s get hurt or sick because of their dumbass choices and their opponent walks into an easy win because of it, it's just accepted as a fact of life in the game.

That should apply here, too.

If your team is full of dumbasses, you shouldn't get coddled and get your game postponed until people get well. You should have to field the team with what you've got. And if you've fucked up SO MUCH that you can't properly field/staff a team, then you should be made to forfeit.

If this had actually been enforced from the beginning like it should have, teams and players would have been taking it a lot more seriously and you wouldn't have as much of a mess. The fact that there's been, up until now, no actual drawback to it has clear repercussions in the fact that nobody actually gives a shit and it's going to keep happening.

The only permanent disinfanchisement this causes is ballots received after election day, and that is a highly controversial tiny part of the vote.

Several states have laws about when they start counting mail in votes, so ballots received after election day would not be the only issue.
