The commercial also had a significant impact on my world view. I remember seeing this ad run on cable TV all of the time when I was in my early teens thinking how idiotic someone would be to go into massive debt just to make themselves look good. I never had that kind of upbringing, but the kids that did sure enjoyed making fun of me for being "poor" (my parents were so anti-debt that they did not even have credit cards).

I envied the hell out of people much more well off than me.

I'd hope I'd be smart about buying a house w/o ever seeing it... Like...apparently (going by all the "how could we have possibly known how compounding interest works as teens!" excuses for taking on giant student loans) I was the only kid on earth that actually looked at what student loans would cost and what the avg. starting salary of my profession would be and chose an in state school b/c of it.
So I've always generally been not a dumb ass when it comes to financing.

But man, growing up in suburbs with all these people doing add ons and renovations to their homes, obsessively tracking how much their and their neighbors' homes were supposedly worth, and talking about maybe selling and getting something bigger and "better" all the time... It's impossible for me to say for sure that w/o some sort of wake up call like that commercial, I wouldn't have been inculcated into thinking that was normal, rational behavior.

But in the case of Age of Calamity, it's in the BotW universe w/ its characters and story. So it's a valid comparison. I like that it lacks all of the time wasting bs and giant empty swaths of traversal that BotW had. Yeah, you need to grind for stuff sometimes for quests, but at least you're still playing and doing stuff then. Not like...sneaking up on some bushes to catch some bugs or setting up camp to shoot horns off of some dragon over and over. And the combat in general is way more fun. And no freaking weapon breaking!!!
So yeah, AoC gives me the BotW setting and characters, and even lets me play as all of them instead of just Link, and with not of the stupid crap I hate.

No wonder it bothers you, it's wrong.

Super Mario RPG was better than any of the platforming Mario games
Never had an interest in Persona or SMT, but Radiant Historia, another JRPG by Atlus, is one of my favorite games of all time
In the PS2/Xbox gen, I liked Shinobi and Nightshade/Kunoichi more than Ninja Gaiden

Not gonna lie to the police, that's just a bad idea.

The DE was worth just for being able to buy item cards instead of grinding battles for them repeatedly, and for the A rank damage change. Now you can take either 99%, 149%, or 199% of your full health in total damage (depending on map difficulty, harder allows for more damage) and still A rank. Before it was like 4 hearts, which was insane. Now you can straight up die, get revived by your MyFairy (that's a thing now, too) once per battle, take some more damage, and still A rank on a lot of maps. That change alone has people saying No Guarding is better than No Healing to put on a weapon now, lol

Actually, I was being generous. It started like 12:30 or so. Earlier in the day, people were loading up a U-Haul and moving out, so at first I thought the voices were them. They're not supposed to move stuff that late, but whatever...they'd be leaving. Only after a while of the talking persisting did I look out and not see a U-Haul and then wonder WTF it was, then? Saw their backs through my peep hole in the door and realized it was people just "chilling out" there. Initially just heard talking, but got more obnoxious and brazen as the night went on. So then I struggled internally for a while if I should just wait it out, or try to talk to them, should I really call the police?, etc.... till I finally had enough.

The problem with talking to them is...these are not considerate people, otherwise they'd not be doing this in the first place. If I make my issue known w/ the ass holes and later call the cops, they'll know it was me. Hell, if someone else calls the cops, they'll assume it was me. And now they know where I live and can make my life hell.

Of all the obnoxious noise-related issues I've ever experienced, this was something else just for how fucking brazen it was.
Usually it's like...they're playing music within their own apartment really loud or something.

This time? From like 1 am until nearly 2 am (when I put a stop to it, who knows how long it'd have gone on otherwise?), two women were sitting on the stairs in the common "hallway" area (3 floor apartment w/ several units arranged the same on each floor), talking at full volume, laughing, talking on their phones on speaker, playing music....

I could hear it all very clearly inside the apartment, everyone there surely could. Our apartment has in the past specifically said not to be noisy in the common area b/c it disturbs everyone, and we were well into state-mandated nightly "quiet hours".
I decided anyone with the slightest bit of decency or empathy would fucking realize what they were doing was wrong, and thus trying to talk to them first would just make me the target of ass holes going forward. So I called the cops at 1:50 am. They fucking scattered quickly when he arrived (only took like 5 min, I was shocked), back to their unit. Unfortunately, I didn't realize the cop was there and had no idea why they left all of a sudden, so I waited till I heard them open their door to open mine and try to peek out and see where they lived, but the door was shut by then and best I could do was narrow it down to a couple units. When I looked out, the cop was walking back downstairs. I didn't even hear him say anything, so I guess they scrambled the moment they saw him.

Also, upon sticking my head out, the air smelled...off.... I don't do any drugs so I have no idea what the smell was, but it wasn't normal cigarette smoke. They were definitely doing something.... It was a pretty strong smell, despite the common area being outside exposed to the open air.

Mostly just felt like ranting about what fucking ass holes these people were. And maybe wondering if police report noise disturbances to the apartment complex or if I should do it. My apartment never seems to do jack shit about noise issues besides send generic letters to everyone to be considerate, and I can't pinpoint which renters were doing it w/ certainty so it'd probably be extra useless to try.
Getting pre-approval for a loan to buy some vacant land to build a house on, I can't wait to move out of here.

Also I'm thinking about picking up HWDF. I played the original on Wii U, a ton. So I am interested in playing an updated version with everything, but also $60 for a 6 year old game I already played is a lot to ask.

Wait for it to be on sale.

I also balked at paying again for a game I had on Wii U (I also had bought the 1st season pass, too!), but I was still tempted and then....pandemic hit and it was like, "ok, guess I have more free time and less options to use it on anyway" and picked it up on sale for $45. I had no idea several months later a sequel would be announced and cause HW: DE to sell out everywhere.

Eventually it should go back to normal and be on sale again.

So my findings is that hair width beginner is probably the best money per hour. Its a 20 second run on Revali, with food its 1000 rupees per run. With load times youre maybe looking at 50k~ per hour. But the experience is bad. Anybody know a challenge thats quick and good for leveling? >_>

The Rito merchant that occasionally shows up at Outskirts or Serenne stable and sells ancient machine parts buys monster parts for more money than usual.
(A few vendors are like that, you'll see a Star next to the type icon at the top if they buy those for more)

I haven't tried farming for money much yet, but presumably selling off tons of monster parts to him is good for making money. I sell occasionally. Maybe not as efficient as the 20 second runs you mention, but it's something.
Probably best if there was a map w/ tons of Lizalfos. Their parts sell for a lot of money relative to how strong they are (like, not much less than Hinox or Molduga parts sell for). Then use monster part drop rate weapons and food....

Piece of advice to anyone still midway or less through the game:

Once "Forest Dance Festival" opens up in Korok Forest, do it immediately.

Silly me, struggling through the game through nearly the end of it wondering why the fuck I only have 23 inventory slots for weapons still and stuggling mightily to manage my weapon stocks.
Do that mission, and not one, not 2, but THREE freaking quests to increase weapon stock pop up one right after the other, for a total of +7 slots between them.

Okay apparently you get the Stronger Yet mission opened up in Akkala when you beat the story mission Calamity Strikes, and I did that the other day but I dont have Stronger Yet?

There's another battle before it, that also has "Strong" in the title and involves a simple battle w/ one Hinox and one Lynel.

Well there's all the side content, which there's a TON of and I've been doing a lot of it, but not all of it as I've been going. I need to find a nice quick mission for farming Lynels and Hinoxes. >_>

Innkeeper's Request is a pretty quick and easy way to rack up a Lynel each run. Level 25 recommended.
If you're higher level and just want efficiency, "Stronger Yet" is two Hinoxes and a Lynel, and that's the entire battle. Recommends 39, but might be rough at that level.

It's gonna be fun over the next few years watching the myth of the "Teflon Don" crumble to pieces

Far too many people over the years have been bullied by this litigious ass hole criminal into thinking "it's not worth it" to pursue charges or file claim for stolen wages/payment. Now not only have we seen the end result of appeasement (cause apparently we need a reminder every half century or so), there's also likely a lot of attorneys willing to work pro bono for those on the poorer end of the scale who can't afford to pursue a case on their own.

I pretty much only use the runes to counter. :X

I use Bombs the most. They're actually super helpful, b/c they damage the WPG even when it's not exposed. It feels like damn near EVERY TIME, I'll have an opening and get the foe down to one sliver of the pie left, and be super frustrated. Then I realized I could bomb them and finish the job. Bonus: some like Urbosa, the bombs will launch them into the air, where you can then get in some head shots w/ melee attacks to also damage the WPG even if not exposed. With Urbosa's bomb rune and aerial attacks, I can shave off the last 2 slivers reliably. It's saved a lot of time for me.

You're just behind where I am. I just finished those 2 battles. They were pretty brutally tough, don't go in under the suggested level...

I loved Great Fairy in HW1, but yeah, this one is just terrible. So big that even dodging correctly can still cause you to get hit, and if they have any i-frames, it's not nearly enough. HW1 GF was very mobile and safe w/ all her strong attacks making her invincible. Not a fan.

Playing any Warriors game for historical accuracy is like drinking water to get drunk.

Do I expect complete accuracy? Of course not. But they usually are at least somewhat accurate. I'm more annoyed that Spirit of Sanada was LESS accurate than prior titles for the same events. I don't see why asking for at least the same level of accuracy as before is asking for much, especially when that game was supposed to be closer to historical accuracy by focusing on the Sanada clan and going into depth w/ them.

This specific title is especially underrated, IMO. Possibly the best historical storytelling of the Samurai Warriors series.

I actually think it's one of the worst historical re-tellings out of the Samurai Warriors series. Like, it's great that now Masayuki is a character and they can stop having Yukimura be in battles before he was born or when he was a child. But they bungle a LOT of shit up in the latter half especially, and in some cases it's a historical event/battle that they actually depicted correctly in prior titles.

I was most looking forward to Chacha being playable, but they completely butchered like...everything about her after Odani castle. And Hideyori isn't even mentioned. The ending was ridiculous b/c it wasn't even clear why she was fighting against the Tokugawa.
And instead of the actual (supposed) historical ending of Yukimura charging into the Tokugawa main camp and forcing Ieyasu to retreat before finally succumbing to exhaustion and being slain, we get him...fighting Hitetada (sorry, but honestly who gives a fuck about him, let alone sees him as a big enough threat to be the "final boss"?), then oddly leaving after taking him down instead of like...killing the Shogun and possibly winning the battle, to go rush off...somewhere.... and later die in a secluded spot.
Also, Masayuki's chronic backstabbing disorder just to let you fight under every clan's banner at least once was fucking ridiculous.
EDIT: And after all that strategic side-changing, they didn't even keep in the historical reason that Nobuyuki sided w/ the Tokugawa -- a calculated move by Masayuki to ensure that the Sanada clan would survive no matter which side won. The one time you can show him choosing cold logic over loyalty and be 100% historically in the right, and they don't portray it that way!

I mean, I still loved the game and having the defense of the Sanada-maru made the prominent focal point was awesome and it was a lot of fun. But the glaring historical inaccuracies were grating. The last few SW titles were more accurate, and this was supposed to be THE historically accurate story-focused title in the series.
