Why? It didn't do anything.
If he's impeached, he can be banned from ever running for federal office again and he can lose all his post-term privileges like his pension and such.

Also, you know...to make the statement that if a president incites an insurrection, he's not above the law and will be held accountable...

So, technically every terrorist involved in the riots is potentially a murder suspect, thanks to how ridiculous "felony murder" law is.
On one hand, that's going too far. On the other hand, said law is regularly used to fuck over poor people and minorities w/ murder charges when their friends are killed by cops or something and the MAGA morons are the types of bootlickers that defend keeping such laws on the books, so... let's make them all murderers! It's only fair.

Unless he planned it he won't get 1st degree.
The terrorist attack was planned in advance.
The murder that occurred in the act of that crime thus falls under "felony murder" and probably could be 1st degree murder since the crime that led to the murder was planned. Felony murder is crazy.

Here's an explanation.

https://www.wonkette.com/felony-murder

But the thing is, felony murder is bullshit. It makes murderers out of people who are not actually killers.
Felony murder lets prosecutors charge people with murder if someone dies, even by accident, if they were committing a dangerous felony at the time of the death. The underlying felony has to be dangerous enough that someone dying, even by accident, was foreseeable.
A common application of felony murder is when a group of people plan a robbery and someone dies. Even if the death is accidental or one of the perpetrators is killed by a cop. It doesn't matter what role you played in the underlying felony, or even if anyone was armed.

Because the crimes were committed in DC, federal law applies. The federal felony murder rule, found at 18 U.S. Code 1111, says people can be charged with murder if they:
"committed in the perpetration of, or attempt to perpetrate, any arson, escape, murder, kidnapping, treason, espionage, sabotage, aggravated sexual abuse or sexual abuse, child abuse, burglary, or robbery; or perpetrated as part of a pattern or practice of assault or torture against a child or children; or perpetrated from a premeditated design unlawfully and maliciously to effect the death of any human being other than him who is killed, is murder in the first degree."
Armed insurrection, riots, and terrorism are, for whatever reason, not on the list.
That doesn't mean it would be impossible for anyone to be charged with felony murder, though. According to former federal prosecutor Tim Heaphy,
"You could look at the storming of the doors of the Capitol by that riotous mob as burglary. If they went in with the intent to steal, disrupt proceedings, to commit other offenses, they committed burglary. And, therefore, a murder that occurred during the course of a burglary could be potentially charged as felony murder."

TL;DR: Felony murder is fucking crazy and should go away. But it exists and is on the books, and is used regularly to fuck over people, and these terrorists committed these acts w/ felony murder on the books, so...

* Trump can also be blocked from running for office again if a simple majority votes to support the move in the Senate

Since the vote won't happen till he's out of office anyway, this is all that really matters and is a near-certainty, right?
I think there was another part of impeachment that strips the president of his pension and post-office benefits/rights, not sure how many votes that requires.... But that'd also be nice.

There is no 3rd degree murder in either the US Criminal Code or the D.C. Criminal Code.

In addition, the felony murder rule may apply, kicking this back up to 1st degree murder.
Yeah, I voted 2nd degree murder b/c 1st seemed unlikely.
But then I keep forgetting how damn wide of a dragnet "felony murder" can entail*.
I've disagreed w/ felony murder for a long damn time, but it is the law, and it's these "tough on crime" and "blue lives matter" morons that support such strict laws. So fuck 'em! These terrorists deserve whatever charges they get.
I think technically every single person that went to the riots could be considered complicit in the murder, if the prosecutor was vindictive enough.

* For example, it could be a group of unarmed burglars robbing a house w/ no intention of physical altercation only for the owner to awaken and shoot one of them dead, and then under felony murder rules, ALL of the people involved in the crime are "murderers" for engaging in a crime that lead to someone being killed, even though none of them fired a shot and it was one of them that died. Even the getaway driver chilling in his car outside is legally a "murderer". There have been cases just like this, and they were indeed found to be "murderers".

One lead organizer of last week's "Stop the Steal" rally that morphed into an attack against the U.S. Capitol claims that GOP congressmen Paul Gosar and Andy Biggs of Arizona, and congressman Mo Brooks of Alabama all participated in planning of the Jan. 6 catastrophe.
As CNN points out, Arizona resident and pro-Trump activist Ali Alexander implicated the three members of the House of Representatives during a December livestream on Periscope, where he told followers the four of them had been "planning something big."
Im the guy who came up with the idea of January 6 when I was talking with Congressman Gosar, Congressman Andy Biggs, and Congressman Mo Brooks. So were the four guys who came up with a January 6 event #DoNotCertify and it was to build momentum and pressure, and then on the day change hearts and minds of congress peoples who werent yet decided, or saw everyone outside and said, I cant be on the other side of that mob, Alexander said in a livestream on Dec. 29.

This shit runs DEEP and the authorities need to delve into it thoroughly and prosecute Every. Single. Mother. Fucker. involved, no matter how high on the totem pole they are!

(Of course part of that is b/c there's only ever 1 or 2 cashiers at a time anymore, so you're kind of pushed to use the self check out)

"America" is a very big and diverse country.
The living expenses vary WILDLY.
In D.C., $74K is probably middle class, and on the lower end of it.
In coastal cities in California and NYC, it's probably still in the "poor" range.
In like rural Indiana or Montana or something, $74K is probably indeed "wealthy".

Why? Because in some parts of the country you can get a 4000 ft McMansion on multiple acres of land for like $300K and a starter home for around $100K or less.
And then you have places like San Jose, where literally a burned down shack sold within days for over a million dollars, just for the land it was sitting on (which wasn't a lot of land, either)
Rental costs, while not perfectly in line w/ house costs for each area, mostly follow the same trend. It costs less money to pay a mortgage on a 5 bedroom house in bum fuck nowhere than it does to rent a studio apartment in NYC.

I don't believe you know what a veto does. A veto does not stop a bill. A veto causes a bill to require a higher vote count to pass. Even with Trump's veto, there was enough votes to pass the $600 instead of the $2000, so him vetoing it didn't matter. Trump actually red-lined the bill and handed it back, but it was ignored because again, there were enough votes to ignore it.

The president isn't all-powerful. You're free to hate on Trump as much as you want but you should also have at least a slim understanding of how our government works and what actually happened.
I do know, quite well.

A veto would've forced another vote and delayed things. This was a monster of a bill passed in a matter of hours w/ no one even reading it before voting, packed with nasty bs.
Forcing it back to Congress would've given constituents time to email and call their Reps/Senators and complain about the bill and pressure people into flipping their votes. Impeachment is stupid.
It's only 14 days, Dems should instead be focused on getting a slew of bills ready for President Biden to sign.
Also, Pence should never be president, even for 2 weeks.
Dems don't even have their 50+1 majority in the Senate yet, let alone 2/3, so no way it'd even happen.

On that note, what happens if Pence does become president (more likely via 25th amendment hostile takeover)? Senate is currently 50-50 split. Would we not have a VP to break ties for these last 2 weeks? I don't see Dems approving a new VP selection from Pence just so he can have a tie-breaker in his favor.

I would encourage all Georgians to make it known that you will not vote until your vote is secure, said Powell, who pushed false conspiracy theories about state voting machines being corrupted by the dead Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez.

But was at a satellite office of the university, so I have never once set foot on the campus (for the in person classes, they'd find people qualified to teach the subject that worked locally).
That was the best I could do w/o having to drive after work 2 hours each way to an actual campus, and dealing w/ rush hour and not getting home till midnight.

I have to wonder how they'd make that kind of a discovery at all. Oo Were they just looking through peoples' stools in the first place? Or did they suspect that was a possibility so they ran a study where they fed people tainted fish?

Well, here's one article/study.
I recall another where it mentioned the fish-eaters had higher levels of plastic in their stool. This one doesn't seem to go into that.
In any case, pretty disturbing. No one's even done long term studies on the effect of consuming (micro) plastic, but I sincerely doubt it's harmless...

https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/2018/10/news-plastics-microplastics-human-feces/

The inevitable has happened. Microplastics have already been found in birds and fish and whales, so it should have come as no surprise that they have now been discovered in humans. To be specific but indelicate, tiny plastic particles and fibers have been found in the stool of eight people who provided samples as part of a pilot study.
This news confirms the predictions of researchers who have tracked microplastics to remote locations, and identified these tiny particles in drinking water, beer, table salt, and seafood. But the implications in this particular case remain unclear.

The study involved three men and five women, aged 33 to 65, from seven different European countries and Japan. Participants kept a food diary for a week and then provided a stool sample for testing. All stool samples tested positive for plastic.
The diaries also provided information about potential sources of the plastics. Two of the eight participants chewed gum daily. Six ate seafood. Over the course of the week, they all consumed food that had been wrapped in plastic. On average, participants drank about 25 ounces of water daily from bottles made of PET (polyethylene terephthalate, the material widely used to make plastic bottles.)
Schwabl cautioned that the study is too small to draw conclusions about individual factors, such as the chewing gum or fish or the participants' household routines or where they lived.
The Environmental Agency in Austria tested the stool samples for 10 different types of plastic. They found nine of them, most commonly PET and polypropylene (PP), a common component of plastic food wrappers and synthetic clothes.
In terms of quantity, the stool samples contained, on average, 20 particles of plastic, ranging in size from 50 to 500 micrometers. (For comparison, a human hair is about 100 micrometers thick.)

The craziest part about this isn't even a sitting U.S. president asking election officials to commit outright fraud to steal the election in his favor.
It's the fact that....dude, even if you "flipped" Georgia, you still fucking lost! Even if you stole Georgia AND Arizona, you still fucking lost!
So what even is the damn point of this shit? He's engaging in criminal activity for no real payoff, it's insane.

An actual cure to would be eating healthy and not being fat, because not doing either of those things will drastically drop the chance of developing cancer.
Well, it sure would help to eat healthy if we could get all the damn plastic out of the ocean.
I love fish, and they're good for you, but the micro plastic content they now contain is disturbing.

They've done studies and found traces of plastic in the stool of people, so this isn't some far-out tinfoil hat kind of fear.

Wow you guys really made a part three.
As soon as Trump concedes the election or is thrown out of office, whichever happens first (it'll be the latter), I'll leave the topic open for a day or so for people's final thoughts, then close the topic. Ok?

Part II: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/3-poll-of-the-day/79115226

New Year, same old grift. Anyone got an updated chart below?

We're past the "faithless electors" stage of the plan, maybe toss in a line for "sue Mike Pence to overturn the results"?
I mean, he only lost by 7 million votes. It was like...super close, you guys!

18 more days until the "Teflon Don" is thrown out of the White House like a Trump University grad is tossed out of a job interview:

Relax, I'm just kidding! Trump University grads don't get job interviews.
