Shadow can teleport in Sonic Battle and Sonic 2006 without a Chaos Emerald, and has moments in Shadow where he can move fast enough toward an airborn enemy without it.

Hell, he can heal without an emerald. And worst comes to worst, he can remove his limiter rings and he'll skate through people and stuff.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDjRVUSRPGg#t=2m

Shadow as Rainbow Dash just doesn't impress me in anything but speed. Sonic characters outrunning weather has long since stopped being impressive, and Shadow can teleport sans emerald to make flight irrelevant. Even if he couldn't, he has healing that Dash doesn't, and Dash strikes me as too competitive to camp when she sees "wow look at this fast boy. What if I race him THEN kill him".

Thank you, this is helpful.

Rainbow Dash can be very cocky and might not take Shadow seriously right out of the gate, which could enable him to get a decent hit in. However, she has pretty good durability - she's able to withstand lightning bolts without any serious damage:
https://i.imgur.com/tzPN2Fi.jpg?1

She's also punched into a building by someone powerful enough to destroy a house, and she recovers basically instantly:
https://gfycat.com/canineelectrickingbird

She can also move fast enough to generate tornadoes.

That said, I don't know if she has the strength needed to put down Shadow. Shadow can survive re-entry into orbit from space (granted, he was in a super form at the time). He could theoretically tag her if he slows down time - assuming he gets an emerald. If he does, he could slow Rainbow Dash enough to make it an even fight and shoot her, which would probably do more damage than being tossed into a house. If he doesn't, he's just not fast enough to tag her.

Abstain until the emerald situation is resolved.

Thing is, Guile is trained to use his head too. He's spent his life in the military, most of it in pursuit of Bison. He used to be more stubborn in Street Fighter II, but he's good at keeping his cool in later games.

I don't know how stealthy Estelle is (one might say I don't know what her level of "Estealth" is, ha ha...ha), but Guile hunted Bison and Shadaloo for years, often going to dangerous places and fighting dangerous people, so I would imagine stealth was a key skill for him.

Here's an Estelle respect thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/respectthreads/comments/6999qg/respect_estelle_bright_the_legend_of_heroes/

This is a "Hurricane" spell, which doesn't seem to move that quickly:
https://i.imgur.com/vLsKrgq.gifv

However, she moves fast enough here to seemingly dodge gunfire. That's pretty impressive:
https://i.imgur.com/ICkW8iq.gifv

Estelle using her stick to defeat an enemy:
https://imgur.com/a/My0Eh

This is her charging in to attack a larger enemy:
https://streamable.com/afgd2

She tanks a punch from someone who punches hard enough to create shockwaves (though it's unclear if he was holding back):
https://streamable.com/inlq9

Deflects (slow-moving...) bullets:
https://i.imgur.com/X9TPPrX.gifv

So it seems like she has some pretty good speed feats. (Then again, so does Guile.) It seems like, yes, she would just rush in and attack, but she would probably be able to dodge Guile's initial attack. From there, Estelle could follow up with I guess more charging in? Maybe try some magic? Guile is the type to calmly analyze compared to her (look at how he handles Alex).

Estelle might also give away her position pretty quickly, eager to get in a fight and whistling about "ultraviolence." Guile could try and get the drop on her, but her reflexes are pretty good.

Summary: still unsure.

If it's in Estelle's personality to charge in headfirst, which it seems like people have been arguing, when does she think to heal? Does it take a Flash Kick from Guile to make her reevaluate, retreat, and start using magic and healing? Would the Flash Kick just...knock her out before she has a chance?

Here's a Guile respect thread. Note that I'm not sure how much of this is canon to the games.
https://www.reddit.com/r/respectthreads/comments/6ejmzm/respect_guile_street_fighter/

Here he is moving so fast Juri is caught off guard:

And here he is easily and repeatedly deflecting a berserking Alex without breaking a sweat or taking a hit:

Quirrel does have fiendfyre, which ruins artifacts. He punches holes clear through the walls at Hogwarts and the castle can't recover from it. I don't remember enough to give details though.

This is basically accurate. Quirrell tears through floors and ceilings on a broomstick at Hogwarts and worries he's permanently damaged the castle. Hogwarts was constructed by the four most powerful wizards of their day, who all know more spells than any other wizard alive in the story.

This is a tricky topic for me because I'm trying to avoid big Steven Universe spoilers.

The Killing Curse doesn't work on dementors (I forget if it works on Inferi) but it can kill anything with a pulse instantly, even non-humans like Fluffy (aka Cerberus) and centaurs. I don't know if "gem-based aliens" are considered alive in the show or not.

That said, Quirrell likely turns invisible, hangs out in the shadows, and observes her for a bit to get a read on her abilities and thought patterns. How "unstable" is she? Is she, like, the kind to act totally irrationally and unpredictably, or is she more like a Joker-esque character who still operates under a kind of twisted internal logic? I feel like Quirrell can comprehend the latter, and if it's the former, he can try and disable her before she does something unpredictable.

Quirrell's biggest weakness is that he thinks he can fundamentally predict and outwit everyone, when in actuality he struggles with human emotions. For example, he was shocked when Harry was forced to absolutely speak the truth and spoke of self-sacrifice, and it never occurred to him in ten years of being stuck in a Horcrux that maybe he should have confided his plan with one of his followers. All that to say: Quirrell can try and contain unpredictability, but if Spinel is pure of heart or something, that he might actually have trouble with.

There's also a chance, of course, that Spinel is too fast/strong for him.

Hell yeah! Had a lot of nostalgia for the ZX soundtrack but it wasn't until they released the collection earlier this year where I realized just how loaded the game was with some of the best tracks in the franchise. There were a couple I wanted to include beyond what I nominated, which is pretty telling for how consistent it is. I doubt any of the songs are in my top favorites, but they're all a joy to listen to. Shame that Advent's only memorable track is an 8-bit remix of Green Grass Gradation.

I'd heard some of the songs, both original and from the arranged album, but I hadn't heard all of them. It was a delight to listen to the set and realize I liked everything in it!

22. Weight of Air - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNf-3KdaWUE [8.5]

I am leaving the songs in playlist order, not ranked order, because they flow into each other. This was a bit of a challenge to rank because I feel like the intended way to experience the soundtrack is one continuous song, but I do feel like each track stood alone in addition to working as part of a greater whole.

So, The Gardens Between. This set felt very profound in ways Im still grasping. I wont use big metaphors or comparisons to other games or artists. Ill just simply say that its outstanding music to meditate to, or to have some sort of spiritual awakening to. (I mean, presumably.)

Favorite song: The Storm. Like I said, the set is meant to be taken as a whole, but The Storm stands out for its powerful horn. I gave it the top spot out of 175 songs, and the song that follows it, Are You the Same, got number 2. Not bad!

And thats it for me! Thanks so much to everyone who took the time to nominate for this. I really enjoyed listening to everyones sets and finding some real gems. Maybe you found a keeper or two as well. Hope to see you all at the next ranking I run, whenever that will be!

I love this soundtrack and I was so bummed when cako nominated it because I thought I would have to give first place to something that wasnt a new discovery. Turns out I was wrong! But the Off-Peak soundtrack is amazing. Space jazz about sums it up. I honestly dont think I can describe it any other way!

I would give specific thoughts on each song, but honestly the set is so self-consistent that I can sum up my thoughts on all five with one writeup. (Also I have a hard time telling the songs apart from each other after I listen and rate them.)

Favorite song: Frogphone. From the almost ominous opening notes, we have a song that constantly tries out new ideas, and those ideas never get stale. The rest of the soundtrack is like: a feast for musical experimentation, a pipeline of creativity.

Boy, this set was an experience. These songs really run the gamut. Cool Jets is very chill, with distinctive big booming bass. I had such fun listening to Junguu Kibao, which includes breakbeat and vocal samples (ANYONE CAN DANCE THATS THE LAW). Tail of the Sun is deceptively normal at first but then segues into creative percussion and more vocal samples. Wild Child & Manmos sounds like something out of Turok, but more playful, with animal noises and an ominous melody line.

Favorite song: Primitive Life ~ Odottepon! (Arranged). There are portions of this that sounds like PS1 bootlegs, and there are portions that sound like Thumper, and there are portions that sound like nothing else.

What a great surprise this set was! All five songs are very distinct from each other and, remarkably, I really liked all of them. Born to Be Bone is very Western-like with awesome bone rattlin and horses and whips and such. Tainted Lovers is an absolute shredder, BeeJam Blues is legit funk, and The Legendary Theme is a slow-paced, sad/wistful number that was perfect to close out the set. Really great.

Favorite song: Flyin to Your Heart, a song from a game about guitars that basically has no guitars in it. It sounds more like an IIDX song with fast tempo and drums. Great energy, very fun to dance to.

Up next on games Ive never heard of, we have Megido 72, with angrily crying people as its backdrop. For a game with such an intense image, the music isnt nearly as heavy as Id expect. Chain World -Combat- I would even go as far as to call fun, with poppy vocals and Hamauzu-like production (it wouldnt surprise me if I found out he composed this). Fighting for the Sake of Others is likewise a battle theme with airy vocals that help it feel lighter (also what on earth is this tempo change goodness gracious). Even the darker tracks like Crafty Reverse Moon are uniquely light and airy.

Favorite song: Incarnate Dance. Easily my favorite of the set, and its probably the most intense track of them all, probably the one that best fits the ANGRY CRY going on in the image. Some forceful strings and a terrific melody really sell this one.

There is a large gap in overall rating between everything until now and the top six.

Just to recap, number 7 (Atelier Rorona) had an overall rating of 7.4.

Numbers 6 and 5 have 7.7. Tie is broken by lowest ranked song.

Then then there's an even larger gap with the top four, which goes:
8.1, 8.3, 8.4, and 8.6.

Basically we're in the truly upper leagues. It's unlikely that there's a song left that I didn't enjoy on a somewhat meaningful level.

Ive been pretty hit or miss with Atelier music. Most of my exposure to the series has come from VGMC, which doesnt always align with my taste. The Rorona set was pretty solid though! Youve got The Ancient Trees Beat, which is all about big production and big chords and big emotion, compared with something like Cyclone (the first song I listened to for this), which is more energetic but still has this big world music production. One of the neat things about this ranking was seeing diverse songs that landed in the same umbrella of style, and thats very much on display here.

Favorite song: Devils Tango. From an organ start, this song then heads into a full-spirited tango (as befitting the name), with prominent accordion and string backing and chanting, and then a more subdued piano bridge. Very cool find, for whatever reason I never would have pegged this to come out of this series.

Some really jaunty chiptune action here. Its clear that this is modern chip, but it has a lot of that retro flavor I enjoy. A big reason why I dislike a lot of retraux is it lacks the precise composition that makes the old chip I love so enjoyable for me. But I liked these tracks; they have a lot of personality. Progress feels a bit ragtimey in places, Skyboss is a solid boss-type theme that has dropping out of a parachute noises incorporated into it, and Jazzy Ghosts is basically as advertised. The only one I wasnt as into was Egyptian Temple, which was a bit too sparse for my liking.

George probably falls in love with her and believes every word she says, at great expense to him. He's done it before!

George Costanza is incapable of winning anything. He could conceivably lie his way out of a fight if his opponent were gullible enough, but then there'd be the matter of actually defeating them.

Looking over the Low bracket, I would give George a shot at defeating the following entrants:
  • Sheldon (I mean, duh)
  • Asobi Asobase (this was that muscular beetle, right? I could see George accidentally stepping on it)
  • Battler (nobody is better at lies and misdirection than George, and I could see him dealing with Battler's magic nonsense just fine and even enjoying himself)
  • Paddington (this might be the only match he conclusively wins? He is immune to Paddington's friendship and drops the bear in the ocean or something)
  • Thibault Tresca (he can go out for coffee with George and Sheldon)

These matches would be amusing to see:
  • Chara (George would talk down to them and they would just stab him to death)
  • Mr. Bean (the anti-George, protected by random chance and buffoonery)
  • Thunderbull (runs from a truck)

Going to assume Horatio can conceivably defeat him but I will do the polite thing and wait for arguments.

10. Bug Fables
Nominated by @Zigzagoon
Average rating: 7.1
Overall thoughts: Nice, melodic soundtrack with a retro feel.

40. Termite Capitol - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oILKKd80Hyg [8]
61. Team, This One's Stronger - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GC9p_dhetA [7.5]
73. Oh No! WASPS!! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnguaxxXUbc [7]
92. Reckless for Glory - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2xvnIDMJLE [6.5]
96. MECHA BEE DESTROYER BLASTLORD - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6vtGV4ehR0 [6.5]

I cant decide what sound chip Bug Fables reminds me of. Most of the time it feels very DS-esque, but there are occasional surprises. Its a fun set, with pop (Team, This Ones Stronger), a battle theme (Reckless for Glory), and the Power Rangers theme (MECHA BEE DESTROYER BLASTLORD). My favorite song from this game at least that Ive heard wasnt used though:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_OSyr3IwAU

Very different feel from the rest.

Favorite song: Termite Capitol. This song is what would happens if you combine a hip-hop beat with a Wind Waker harp and play it out of a DS. I dont know that sounds amazing or horrible to you, but to me it sounds great!

I'll take your word for it. Trying to avoid spoilers in case I ever finish the comic. This probably means I shouldn't vote in the match, honestly.

I think I'll go with Rob. In the scenarios I've outlined, I see Rob winning more of them than losing. Tor could still win, but I think Rob has a better shot.

Thanks for the info.

So assuming the fight leads them both to the city (which is where I imagine most of these fights taking place), Rob is likely to be somewhat stealthy - he typically operates and hatches his plans from the shadows and observes targets before taking action. Like I said though, he's not especially fast, so if Tor opens with a big attack like at the beginning of the first video Shonen_Bat posted (which I think is what they're arguing), and if he has enough range to basically take out the whole city at once, then Rob won't be able to react fast enough.

But if Rob notices him first, either through loud mech noises or destruction from a distance, then Rob can freeze, rewind, slow down, open a portal to the Void, etc. I will say the phantom hammer seems a bit slow to start up, and if he does it in range of Rob, then Rob could likely use the Remote to counter it.

I'm still on the fence because it seems like there are a number of ways this can play out. Would be interested to hear analysis from other people.

Summing up that mess of a post:
  • If Tor starts out nuking everything, Rob is likely to notice the destruction, then freeze time until he can figure out where the attacks are coming from, then deal with Tor.
  • If Tor starts out more cautiously - which would be difficult to do in a big mech - and attacks from a distance, then Rob will have a limited time to attack him, which might not be enough, given that his reaction times are basically normal person level.
  • If Tor starts out more cautiously and opts for close range fighting, it seems like his attacks are easier to deal with in terms of freezing, reversing, slowing down, etc

Quickly looking at that Tor video: How likely is he to lead with the big sweeping distance attacks? He also has distance attacks that move more slowly. Is he the type to just blow everything up, or would he take a more methodical approach? The combatants don't start next to each other, and Tor isn't very conspicuous in a giant mech. It's important to establish Tor's likely plan of attack, because if Rob notices him, or can hide from a stray blast, he can get creative with the remote by selectively rewinding the blast (this might damage the mech, as shown in the gameplay video), or freezing time until he can reach Tor and then either sending him into the Void or rewinding him out of existence.

If Tor just decides to nuke everything out of the gate, Rob doesn't really have a defense for that. But even if Tor does go in guns blazing, Rob is going to notice the destruction and will likely take action.

How does the remote work? Does Rob need a line of sight on someone to use it on them?

I think he needs line of sight. Most of the time he uses it on targets that are close to him, but he is still able to freeze everyone in the mall besides Gumball on two separate occasions. It's unclear how far the range is on the Remote too, as we only ever see him use it in the mall, but the character he buys the Remote from talks about how dangerous it is, so it might have a bigger range/destruction capability than we see. But that's admittedly conjecture.

Okay so here's the deal with Rob. He's physically an ordinary junior high student (as ordinary as passes for this guy). The whole reason he's here is the Universal Remote.

The Remote appears as a normal remote control, with a variety of buttons. The buttons have different effects. Rob was able to:
  • Freeze time for everyone and everything in a shopping mail except for himself and Gumball, his nemesis.
  • Rewind time selectively for two people, reverting them from adults to babies in a matter of seconds.
  • Fast forward selectively for Gumball, causing him to fly into another person.
  • Reduce visibility to pitch black darkness.
  • Open up portals to the Void, a static-y pocket dimension.
  • Knock targets back with a burst of wind.
  • Turn on slow motion, which effectively negates the force of attacks.
  • Cause letterboxing to pop up/down and attack people (good luck arguing this lol).
  • And the big one, which Rob never uses (but Gumball does): hitting the power button, which instantly causes the target to...well, power off. It's implied Rob dies when Gumball does this to him, though Gumball is able to bring him back with no harm done by pushing power again. I think NFUN banned this ability specifically.
  • Plus a bunch of non-combat-oriented abilities like changing the aspect ratio, changing the language people speak in, turning off "parental filter," which causes people to speak their minds, messing with subtitles, and changing the background music.
Note that the Remote can be destroyed with enough force. It runs on batteries, and if they fall out, it will become non-functional.

The Remote appears in two episodes. Here's part of the first:

And here's the second, relevant stuff starts at 3:24:

Almost made it to the 7 average! Im glad that I was right about Nothing Happened In This World being something that you would like. Slightly disappointed at Regret being the bottom song though since I was fairly confident about that one too. Well, I hope you enjoyed my b-side selection for this soundtrack! Its not exactly a list of my favorites (see my BOST list for that), but I think it highlights some more interesting songs from the soundtrack.

I didn't realize this was a B-side set, that's how little I know about the soundtrack. Thank you for the effort!

Favorite song: SANA MOLLETE NE ENTE -B.L.T. STYLE-. Hey, its that song from the crowdsourced list! This definitely feels Katamari not the original, but a later installment. Slow-paced and loungey with big brass hits, it engages me every time.

113. Barren Corridors - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5SiU4Uc_A4 [6]

The Timespinner set has really lovely melodies and composition. Echoes of the Forgotten in particular sounds like a remix of a classical song. A few of the songs had a lead instrument that I found too loud/not properly integrated with the rest of the production, but by and large this was a solid set. Were at 7+ now, so theyre all going to be really solid from here on!

Favorite song: Pioneers Horizon. Boy did I love this. Everything flows together really beautifully and organically, with a wonderful balance of instruments. I would love to hear a live version of this!

143. Regret - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3j9h0brgn4k [5.5]

Most of these songs are generally soft and sad/wistful. Some of them didnt click, but the ones at the top were really solid. Interesting to see such a contrast between the more melodic ambience of this set and the more atmosphere Hitman songs.

Favorite song: Born Into This World. Very soothing, somewhat sad piano. Very, very pretty. I could see this playing in a big emotional moment. Shoutouts to Nothing Happened in This World, an evil-sounding track that kept my attention for its entire seven minutes. I have a feeling there arent many here who wouldve given it a high score. Im glad you submitted to me.
