Actually... the desert might be the best all-around region in 3D Zeldas. There's no desert in Wind Waker, but it's really well represented in Ocarina, Majora, TP, and Skyward Sword.

6. Town: Gerudo Town
Popular opinion: best town in the game.

My own hot take: the desert is hands down the best region in the game. Yeah, Naboris is probably the most high-quality Divine Beast, and yeah, the Gerudo bring tons of great lore and humor to the game, but even beyond that, I found it to be the best area to explore - and for this game, that's saying a lot. There was something especially cool about finding a Shrine or point of interest amidst the vast sand sea. "Romantic" might honestly be a good for it.

I'd completely understand if people had apprehensions about voting by mail. There's simply greater opportunity for mistakes and fuckery.

Here in NV, my parents both decided to vote by mail and needed to sign their ballot. A couple days after dropping said ballots at the polling place, they both received emails stating their signatures didn't match what the state had on record, despite both of them carefully replicating their drivers license signatures (which is what the state has on record) to the best of their abilities.

Based on my limited experience, it certainly seems like an imperfect system, which is why I voted early in-person. But it was easy for me to do so, with numerous voting places within a ten minute drive. If you live in an area where there's like one early voting place per city/county, I'd definitely call that voter suppression - blatant and fucked up voter suppression, at that.

Near Shenandoah National Park and the WV border. We spent the holidays in a cabin there. Super rural area, but it was still a wake-up call since I've never seen it before (city boy from the west coast). I counted at least a dozen - every second or third home I drove by seemed to proudly fly it.

yeah, this is absolutely accurate. I don't understand why people are still placing so much emphasis on polls that are still being conducted by phone.
It doesn't feel like people are. The polls (in conjunction with the lack of an effective October surprise, the lack of undecided voters, and the fact that 80+ million have already voted) are pointing to a decisive Biden win, but people still have their asses nervously clenched and will for at least another four days.

Maybe I misheard this on MSNBC, but apparently the fire department had to spray water in the air to mist/refresh Trumpers at a Florida rally since the heat caused a few of them to collapse. This is one day after Trump supporters in Omaha were left stranded in the cold after a rally there.

This is like... a textbook definition of limping across the finish line.

Since it's separated from the rest of the overworld, that island was one of the topographic points that most piqued my interest (along with Eventide and maybe Vah Medoh). Definitely worth it, too. From a distance, the labyrinths seem pretty easy to solve since they're so basic in their geometry. Once you enter... nope!

  • Short as fuck, never overstays its welcome (again, perfect movie with friends)
  • They still follow Covid safety guidelines lmao

Thanks for writing about it, and for this topic in general. I've watched a few of your recommendations and have had a fun October with the gf. =)

Seeing the huge airship flying around early in the game was awesome, finding out later that it was just another divine beast was not as awesome but it was a cool moment.

Breath of the Wild has a lot of moments like that where you see something in the distance and think 'whoa, can't wait to check that out' but when you actually get there it's usually not that great

I quite liked Vah Medoh, especially for its intro sequence. You're paragliding up wind currents and shooting down the defense system of a giant mecha bird - in bullet time - while dodging its lasers. That segment gets really slept on imo.

Generally speaking, I feel like the Divine Beasts would have been much better received with more unique bosses and interiors/atmospheres. The complaints about the Blight bosses has been discussed to death, but the dungeons each had a very similar aesthetic, so they all blended together and felt samey. This is a pretty big sin for 3D Zelda dungeons, which for 20 years prior had done in excellent job in differentiating themselves.

Still, for a first attempt, I think BotW did an alright job with its dungeons.

Court expansion isn't popular enough right now. Sadly we need some truly terrible rulings from the new SC to sway voters.

Think of how Obamacare was unpopular until people suddenly saw the GOP ready to take it away. If the SC rules the ACA unconstitutional you can bet your ass people will suddenly approve of a court expansion.
Agreed. If people actually lose their health insurance via a supreme court ruling, there will be an immediate wave of backlash.

Now I'm thinking - ever since the 24 hour cable news industry (and social media in the last decade) have polarized our politics and shined an intense light on every public figure, what has been the most controversial or impactful Supreme Court decision?

Basically, which SC decision has fucked over the most people in the last 20 years? I'm trying to gauge if anything possibly approaches a repeal of Obamacare.

Yeah, this notion that Covid killed Trump's reelection chances no matter what is really just excusing him. He could have, I dunno, fucking handled it better by using his position to encourage people to listen to the science, practice social distancing, and wear masks. Instead, he visibly fought against these measures and ridiculed people who took them seriously (Joe Biden in the first debate).

His laundry list of absurd, unsubstantiated ramblings and assertions ("I think it'll disappear", "like a miracle", "affects virtually nobody") also haven't helped things. The guy just can't help himself from acting like a sleazy used car salesman. He can't EVER shut up and listen.

Covid wouldn't have guaranteed an election loss for Reagan, or Obama, or anyone who actually made the effort of acting like a responsible leader. Trump handled this... the way most of us expected him to, and that's on him, not the virus.

This philosophy is sometimes discussed in these topics - I completely agree that "national healing" can be aided/expedited by progressive policies that actually care for people.

Yeah, Medicare for All would be great, but fuck, you can start healing the nation by expanding Medicare to cover people age 60+ (roll it forward five years, basically) and by offering reduced Social Security benefits at age 60 instead of 62.

35% of people already decide to take the reduced SS benefits at age 62 anyway. If you knock it down to age 60 and couple it with Medicare, we'd have most people retiring at age 60. They'd be healthier, more financially secure, and thus less likely to throw their lot in with someone like Trump. And they'd be fucking retired so their positions could actually be opened up to all the 30-somethings that have been hammered in the job market since they entered it.

I don't think these are some crazy-ambitious goals, either - the fact that they feel fucking impossible is what's truly sad.

If Trump loses, especially in a landslide, his ensuing hissy fit will be so pathetic that the part of the country that wouldn't want him in jail would be too embarrassed to defend him. That's why I disagree with the notion that the public sentiment would favor simply moving on from this presidency. Public sentiment will want him punished, both for whatever crimes are dug up and for him disgracing the country for the last four years.

Early voting just opened in NV. I drove my parents to their local voting location to drop off their mail ballots, and the line was incredible. I've voted in two presidential elections in this state, and I can say with confidence that today's early voting line had at least 5x the people of any election day line I've been in.

And this is a bougie rec center nestled in the suburbs, not a busy urban area.

Immediate anecdotal reaction: Trump's getting slaughtered here.
