Since the convo has veered toward Japanese wrestling again, here's something I've always wanted to ask...

I've watched a good number of Japanese matches over the years, but I always just cherry-pick individual bouts. I've never seen an entire show start-to-finish, so I have no idea about the TV status of Japanese wrestling. I know WWE produces like 6+ hours of content a week, while AEW and Impact (I know I've seen em while channel surfing, so they're still around) likely contribute a few more.

Is it similar in Japan? Are companies like NJPW, AJPW, and Noah airing weekly programs to pump interest into their PPVs? Do they even have PPVs the same way we (up until recently) used to, or do they also offer their premium shows through online network subscriptions?

Yeah, my mom is in her 60s and has severe asthma - she's high risk and would be very wary about standing in a packed line of people, at least some of whom would probably be flying their political colors by not wearing a mask. It's unfair to call people in her situation foolish.

I thought Squatch was about $10 for an individual soap, which is absurd for a 5 oz bar. Seven is definitely more reasonable, but a lot of that is still marketing mark-up. These were the two I picked up today, and they cost $3.75 and $4.50, and are probably just as good (the Cremo is also a bit larger).

America has always devalued labor and aggrandized ownership. It's been woven into the fabric of our history from the very beginning - land ownership, people ownership, and now business ownership. Any attempt to carve out a meaningful slice for the working class (let's say from WWII to the 1970s) was temporary and has had its course feverishly reversed since.

I've done my own quick research into this, and relative to the minimum wage of the time, the median cost of a home in the U.S. is currently double what it was in the 1960s. The relative cost of education has more than doubled. Sure, TVs, music, and movies may be cheaper, but any investment that may actually grow your wealth/power or improve your lot in life is significantly more expensive today.

And yeah, the gig economy will only hurt things, probably to the extent that I'd wager it's quite unsustainable in the long term. Hell, the growing gig economy may be the eventual powder keg for nationalized healthcare or UBI. People will fight back, eventually. They won't just volunteer to disappear.

how big a room? Guests don't need much. A bed, a dresser, and a nightstand should suffice. Maybe a chair. The rest is just decorating.

Decent size, 12x12. It has a huge mirror (almost 10 feet wide) that serves as the sliding closet door, so I don't need to add a mirror. There's also a private door to the restroom, meaning if guests simply lock the main restroom door, it becomes a private restroom for them. I think it's an excellent guest room setup overall.

Also haven't seen them in months. While they're certainly smug, I didn't find them that offensive HOWEVER no fucking ad campaign will get me to pony up $10 for ONE bar of soap. I have used fancy-pants all natural body soaps before, and they are nicer, but imo are rarely worth the markup even at $4-5 a bar, let alone $10.

My roommate's moving out, and rather than look for another renter, I'm going to convert it to a home office/guestroom. My office setup is little more than a desk and chair, so at least 80% of the room is free for guests.

I've never had a guestroom before, and apart from a bed and nightstand, I'm not sure what to put in there (the goal being to make the room look both modern and inviting). I'm considering an island/beach theme, but that might be too tacky.

So yeah, any advice is welcomed before my gf flies back here and I likely give her the whole project to head.

He's just so fucking good, had an unbreakable connection with the audience, and always seemed willing to kill himself for his craft. He's the American, bearded, cruiserweight Kobashi.

Speaking of American - looks like the top 4 is 75% un-American, with three countries represented. B8 with the diverse take!

I showed it to my gf a few years ago (careful not to oversell the Flair angle or else I'd risk spoiling the end), and she was laughing and enjoying herself through the whole thing. Look at all the talent in this one match - Hogan, Savage, Taker, Piper, Jake the Snake, DiBiase - and it's Flair who carries the whole thing and overpowers them all. He and Bobby Heenan - who gave arguably the greatest color commentary ever this night - deserve a special award for this match alone.

It sounds like your everyday California hikes/walks may have made you overconfident.

I think 7:45 was far too late a time to start a hike like this if you expected to complete the whole thing in one day. You should have started at like... 4:30 so that at least a portion of your hike back would not be under a merciless Arizona sun. Hiking around your neighborhood, even in hot daylight, is nothing like hiking uphill in a national park during summer.

Speaking from recent experience here. I walk in the daytime frequently in Las Vegas, but it's in the privileged ass suburbs, so I rarely need to truly exert. Last week, I hiked Angel's Landing in Zion with my brother, and in preparation for the heat, we started at about 7:15 and ended before 9:30. Seriously, this was a baby compared to your hike - a little over 4 miles round trip and only about 1000 feet of elevation gain. Despite this, we both agreed that the people who'd start at noon were gonna wreck themselves, as even during 9:30, that summer Utah sun was no joke.

You had hours of July Arizona sun to deal with while navigating the ass-end of 3500 feet of elevation gain. I hope they plaster danger warnings everywhere for this hike, especially the uphill portion, as summer sun in that situation can sap a person's strength in like 15 minutes, let alone 5 freakin miles. Also, I disagree with the estimate that the uphill portion would only take 3 hours. That elevation gain is crazy, and to attempt it in midday, you might only be covering a mile an hour. I probably would have done what Ngamer said and camped overnight, aiming to start the hike back before dawn. Anything else just sounds like a miserable experience to me.

All in all, I'm glad you're ok! Certainly glad that the scorpion sting seems to have healed completely.

Thank you for your realistic take. I've heard of the Paul brothers, but I've never seen their YouTube content. From what I gather, their main audience is around 14 years old, so hardly anyone here would actually seek out their content. At that point, it becomes a question of whether a 30-year-old (active on social media or not) would have heard of them in passing... and either-or is feasible.

Stone Cold Steve Austin
Bruiser Brody
The Undertaker
Eddie Guerrero
Macho Man Randy Savage
Owen Hart
Sabu
Ric Flair
Sting
Mitsuharu Misawa
Rey Mysterio

Booker T

This is my favorite wrestling highlight ever. It was popular on YouTube in the early days of streaming, and it took me a while to find this backup a couple years ago. I'm sure most of those few dozen views are me.

I almost never followed wrestling outside the States and have only watched a handful of Kobashi's matches, but he's still near the top of my list. There's just... something about him, the champion of champions. I think @NBIceman 's writeup captures his incredible je ne se qua quite well, but if I had to compare him, I think he's the only wrestler in that Muhammad Ali class of myth where a part of me still has a hard part believing someone like Kenta Kobashi actually exists.

My brother and I have a small trove in our parents's house. Back in 2002/03, I gave away his Blastoise and Gyarados to my high school history teacher in exchange for extra credit (couldn't risk getting a B), and my brother took it as a top ten anime betrayal. For years, he had 148/150, with my treachery keeping him from a complete original set.

About twelve years later, on the day of his pharmacy school graduation, I surprised him with a Blastoise and Gyarados in a graduation card. Combined, they cost less than $25, but the childlike joy on his face was priceless. I was redeemed.

But yeah, we have at least one Charizard, but I'd never think of selling unless the money was truly obscene.

Maybe, but a wet wipe gets me completely clean and does most of the drying. After I use one, I only need like two squares of TP to pat dry. I never cared to guess how much TP I was using before when I was doing things the "traditional" way. Like... minimum 20 squares per poop?

If anyone here is interested in an excellent and simple quality of life improvement, HERE IT IS:

Installed Bidet + Wet Wipes + Toilet Paper to pat dry COMBO

You will feel cleaner and more hygienic all the time (because you WILL BE cleaner and more hygienic all the time), and you might even save money in the long run. I know bidets have been gaining popularity ever since we hit TP crit levels a few months ago, but if you're a person who still finds them a strange and awkward appliance... time to expand your mind and join the winning team.

Decided to make this topic because I pooped ten minutes and, in a moment of zen, realized that I'm on my second roll of TP since March (when people actually began tracking things like that).

I'm here to answer any questions.
