The point remains is that the PS5 will be able to use off the shelf parts. The Xbox will rely on heavily regulated skus and a very limited number of them. The PS5 will win on long-term SSD pricing.

Having a literal memory card in the back will ruin living room setups.

So a 50GB game would take roughly 100 seconds to transfer. A truly massive game at 150GB, then, would take about 5 minutes to transfer.

Edit: HDDs write at closer to 100Mbps, so multiply the numbers above by 5 if you're using an external HDD and not an external SSD

You need to distinguish between bits and bytes. Be careful when writing Mbps and MBps.

USB 3.0 at 5 Gbps is 600ish MB/s. Even a shitty SSD operates at 500 MBps.

An NVME SSD like the PS5 will have can do 32 GBps.

The PS5 is going to look like a champ with its m.2 slot. Maybe you just need an extra 128 or 256 GB.

Yes, you'll be spending at least $60-$90 at the moment for a compatible drive, but look at how cheap the non-compatible PCIe 3.0 SSDs are. The 4.0 ones will drop in price very quickly.

Don't ever expect the Xbox expandable storage to drop in price in a meaningful way.

Digital is still a thing and some games don't even come with all the data on the card, you need to download more (which I do think is BS since it makes the physical release pointless).

Yet people still swear by disks. So dumb.

There's nothing in for the consumer. Cases take up space, you aren't entitled to a digital copy with your purchase, nothing of the original game on the disk is usable after a patch or two.

There's literally no point. The disk is basically just a security check. A 50+ GB game on a disk becomes a 100+ GB game on your drive just to handle all the updates and DLC. The disk is literally worthless data that plays sometimes no role in running the game.

I think the Series S will live or die based comparisons for performance and image quality. If it's just lower res, it'll be a revolution. If settings are turned down in a noticable way, Sony will need to make that clear in their marketing against it. If it can't keep 60 fps at 1080/1440, it's DOA.

MS did do the right thing on making the XSS small. Every gen I wonder if Sony and MS are even trying with cooling. You look at a fat console and can basically imagine how small it will be by the middle of the gen.

1080p/1440p at guaranteed 60fps could win the gen at great cost to pride.
