I'm a true Chaotic Neutral. Moral Philosophy itself is largely wasted on me.

I dont usually mind dry books as long as I find the information in them interesting. Philosophy is usually too wordy for my liking but it is thought provoking and informative.

Like I said, things like Manifest Destiny, the Marshall Plan, and the dropping of Atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima are things that would qualify as "Seldon Crises" in Asimovian terms.

Consider the alternatives at the time knowing what was known then.

There are a number of points in history where I would argue that Lawful Evil decisions had to be made for the greater good.

You should read On the Genealogy of Morality. Moral philosophy is interesting. I remember liking this book and have been meaning to read it again... eventually.

For me it was the reverse. I was a regular over there for nearly 2 years and used to pop over here occasionally. I even posted on here sometimes. Anyways I left there a few months ago because there were some very unsavoury characters polluting the place that weren't dealt with. And not even lulzy trolls (there was them too but meh) I mean actual awful people. They should have been blacklisted. But since they weren't I left permanently. I am not part of anybody's clique. Have not even checked back since not even to lurk.

Is that eightysix guy one of them? I think I remember him saying something about how marriage between a man and a woman is the only correct life path to take. He was even saying stuff like people who didn't want to get married were wrong. Sometimes people have such wildly weird and dismissive views that I have trouble believing that they actually believe them.

Not as such when the winners write the history. For example, I'm sure the French and the Vietnamese have very different recollections of their colonial period, but one story is taught in class, the other isn't... The Spanish and the Philippines, etc.

I do agree that history is always written from the perspective of the victor. I think that's why we should always consider what biases we've been taught in our history classes and American society in general. I still personally believe there are some moral values that are widely considered to be "objective" such as those referring to basic human rights. Obviously there will always be people who will disagree, but that doesn't mean they are necessarily right. It's generally believed that racism is bad. People who fought for their right to own slaves are those who would be considered on the wrong side of history. But yeah, I think there is much more gray area than clearly defined instances of "right and wrong" when it comes to historical events, mostly because things are usually pretty complicated.

That's because the "right side" and "wrong side" of history are just meaningless slogans used to win over gullible idiots. Within any given moment, there's obviously never going to be any indication what might be considered right or wrong in the future. However, more importantly, it's used as a claim that one side or the other will win, which is intended as a self-fulfilling prophecy.

It's also worth noting that "progress" is a largely meaningless buzzword as well. There are certain limited applications where there's a finite end goal in mind, but usually people use it in vague, nonsensical ways.

Really moving the goalposts there. There are only a handful of things that are universally recognized as being bad and, throughout history, even some of the most deplorable acts were praised.... and, honestly, there's a VERY good likelihood that some acts we consider terrible today may wind up being condoned again in the future because we are starting to put more and more power into government. When you give too much power to government, horrible things inevitably happen.

Complete moral subjectivity is like the very definition of "moving the goalposts." Lol

There are some that a lot of people can agree on, but thats still only a lot. Unfortunately it isnt really a majority rules... subject. Morality and legality vary by country, so morals are not universally objective.

Yeah, I wouldn't say I agree in universal truths either, but I think moral objectivity is much more useful an idea than complete subjectivity/skepticism, at least when conceptualizing good and bad.

Morality is ultimately subjective, so ascribing it to history seems silly to me. There are truths and lies in history, winners and losers, but no inherent right or wrong.

Sure, if you believe in complete moral subjectivity. Most however don't.

I actually haven't had kool-aid for a long time.

Either open to new experience or open to other possibilities. This means that you're willing to consider that you are wrong or that there can be multiple truths.

Positive. I am currently attending a Christian college for my graduate degree. I'm not religious myself, but there are some good religious speakers and books I've heard and read while I've been at this school. Plus one of my closest friends is Christian and he is one of the nicest guys I know. Their religion seems to benefit their outlook on life.

Eh, I doubt that. I think it's more complicated than just being against sex work. I don't think sex work, including porn, is ever something that's going to go away. So the issue becomes how we treat those who choose to work in it. Some people will look down on it and want to punish or dissuade people from being involved, and some will say that people should be allowed to do it if they want, and they should not be punished in any way for it.

Edit: basically anything that becomes a moral issue is going to have people at eachother's throats.

Generally speaking, "who cares?" is asked as a shitty rhetorical question because usually people clearly care and have good reason to do so. Companies have to worry about their reputation and the conduct of their employees can very negatively impact that reputation. And as you, he, and everybody else has seen in the past decades, companies are very frequently put on the hook for their employees' controversial behavior.

I think the deeper issue here is still the demonization of porn. Should this be a good reason for dismissal? Why is this such a controversy? I'm willing to bet that the people who fired her probably watch porn, which makes something about this seem hypocritical. How much can it really negatively impact taco bells business that this lady is in some obscure porn anyway?

Why would you think they are better off? There is obviously a reason they are coming over here, mostly for a better life. I've read and heard many personal stories of people who have moved to America to escape the conditions they lived in. You can't assume that they'd be better off staying where they are. America is an inclusive country when it comes to culture and values. I'm Hispanic and lived for a year with friends who were Vietnamese. I've also had friends of other cultural backgrounds. They all seemed happy to me despite their different cultures. How is it that you believe people from different cultural backgrounds can't live happily here?

The article is basically saying that refugees who are rejected are more prone to violence. Sounds like Biden's citizenship plan reduces the circumstances in which that would happen. What are your thoughts on what I said about all people being prone to violence, including our own people here at home. Why should we not give refugees amd immigrants a chance as we do our own people? Hell, there is even a chance for violence from traveller's abroad because it's impossible to know a person's background and mental health. I don't think this means we should shut down our borders and isolate from the rest of society.

Where have you seen these refugees causing violence? Aside from that, many of our own people are also capable of violence. People in general are prone to violence. We should ban all people and get it over with.

High taxes. More lockdowns to combat COVID-19 and possibly using that excuse to combat Climate Change. High gas prices (Keystone XL Pipeline being removed is angering Canada and removing thousands of jobs on both sides of the border, as well as banning fracking which will remove even more jobs as well as to protect Hunter Biden's assets in the Ukraine) . Illegal aliens being granted amnesty by the millions (including thousands right now in a Guatemalan caravan that crossed that border which the Biden Administration is ALREADY angering Mexico). Businesses being shuttered due to a focus on the economy on "diversity" rather than trade deficits and the GDP. 1 or 2 new wars in the Middle East (while Trump was the ONLY President in 60 years to not engage us in any new war). Continued censorship of conservatives on Social Media. "Hate speech" laws being passed (which is completely unconstituonal). Liklihood of the Supreme Court being packed (I am assuming the Biden Administration will expand it to at least 6 more members, assmuning nobody dies or retires). The economy not recovering quickly post-pandemic.

But on the bright side, you have the news media and Hollywood fawning all over him and his policies, and his skin isn't orange, and you have a man who was experienced in politics for nearly half a century and even ran for President back in 1988 which went as well as a lead balloon, which you can here right here:
