That's a false dichotomy and you know it. Roads, powerlines and water pipes don't just all dead-end at state borders. How then does it make sense for at least the national election to have 50 different systems? Missouri's state level elections have little bearing on voting in Massachusetts, but the system as it stands is illogical and archaic.

It's been a nagging concern out of principle for a number of elections in living memory, but with the entire mail-in angle of this one it's throwing some pretty hard focus on just how archaic this entire process is.

Millions of votes cast without so much as a chain of custody? Numerous irregularities and "glitches". That's not an issue of who you or I voted for. The absurdity of it on the face if it shouldn't even be partisan. It's absurd that the integrity of the process should even be brought in to question in this country in this era of technology.

In the following days, it made me angry angrier than I thought I would be to see people dismiss all that work out of hand with no basis at all, or based on wild, concocted claims. This was my first time participating in vote-counting, and I saw how much work and care and attention go into ensuring that our elections run well. The cooked-up outrage, all those accusations or insinuations, also just felt dumb. They betray a profound lack of knowledge about the process a process that is completely knowable, if you take a moment to learn.

The clerical errors of a living person's vote accidentally being linked to a deceased person due to similar names/addresses?

Yes, the election is going to be stolen by the HUGE number of people in this country who
-happen to share their deceased relative's name
-live at the same address
-accidentally have their vote recorded as their deceased relative's vote
-somehow bypass the later step where votes identified as cast by a deceased person are thrown out

In Michigan, your vote is discarded even if you happen to die in the time between when you mail it and when it's counted.

How to not look like a sensible person:

First, complain about problems that exist only in your head after being spoon-fed conservative media. (Dead people voting is exceedingly rare, and there's no evidence it's conducted in a partisan pattern)

Then, recommend voting "be more secure like filing taxes." (Tax fraud by identity theft affects hundreds of thousands of people per year)

The overwhelming majority of remaining ballots will be coming from counties that favor Biden. The only question would be if Military ballots (About 8k received in 2016) would be numerous enough, or pro-Trump enough, to overcome that.

Curious that all the examples being shown are from 1900, 1901, and 1902. It could be a bug returning results from people born in 2000, 2001, and 2002 (which would be on the cusp of recently coming of age to vote). The 2010 Census reports that approximately 78 percent of the population in rural and small town communities are white and non- Hispanic, compared to 64 percent of the population in the nation as a whole.

(Which of course means that urban areas would need to be more diverse than the national average, for it to average out to 64 percent)

He was intimately involved in a rally that resulted in a death plus multiple severe injuries. While I personally wish no violence on anyone, at the same time I will shed no tears for him. Polling is a practice of predicting what the electorate will look like, then sampling from them as what you hope will be a representative sample.

Predicting where the remaining votes will go, based upon which counties they come from, is a much simpler task with few assumptions. In fact, you can simply take the measured vote distribution and extrapolate out to the vote total.

For example, with 50% of 1,000,000 ballots tallied from county X, 40% are for candidate A while 60% are for candidate B. You would predict 400,000 more for A and 600,000 for B. There is no fancy guessing of what the electorate looks like, because you're working with up to date data on votes. The only assumption is that your already-counted ballots throughout the county are randomly sampled from the whole set. And with very large numbers, that's usually a reasonable assumption.
