AND IF THAT WASN'T ENOUGH Zero Dawn was a way to restart life on the planet. One of its responsibilities was to create new humans and educate them via the APPOLO subordinate function. Faro used his access to the system to almost completely purge APPOLO's memory. He claimed that this was so mankind didn't repeat its earlier mistakes. Most people find it likelier that he's just hiding his involvement with the apocalypse. Thus, humans only achieved a kindergarten level of education when they were eventually rebirthed. The facilities eventually ran out of food and the automated systems were forced to release the unprepared humans.
