I was on a ward where a few people were batshit crazy, and one guy had some sort of complex where he would access the pay phone and call random people collect claiming his name was Maria Gonzalez (he was very Irish), but none of the patients treated me poorly. I was in a full week, and only one of the ~20 people there left before I did. The guy I was roomed with basically locked himself in his bed and never left; he wouldn't engage with me. But the others, most of them were older than me and it was strictly a men's ward, were willing to talk to me and be cool if I was willing to talk to them. | azuarc 01/25/21 12:14:56 AM #29 | I feel like there's a difference between "lose a ton of progress" and lose your whole damn save and start over. I've certainly done the second one more than the first in recent times. I don't want to think about how many hours I've spent on Fallout 4 thanks to playing multiple saves on my old computer until the files gradually wouldn't play any more and I almost never finish games of Civilization that I start. OTOH, when I think about redoing progress, I remember my PC edition of FF8 that was so unstable that I had to keep playing everything three times because I wouldn't stop and save at every one of the tiniest opportunities. I probably put 80+ hours into the game and only ever got to what I presume is a bit more than the halfway point. Today, I have no tolerance for replaying shit. I died on a boss in a metroidvania I was playing a couple days ago, and I almost bailed on the game even though what I lost really only amounted to about 5 minutes because it was the one place where they didn't put a save room immediately before a boss. (It was nearby, but I found the boss first.) I'm gradually playing Horizon Zero Dawn right now, but it doesn't do any autosaving for you, so when you die, you go back to the last time you legit saved, and that's so weird to me in 2021 that I haven't quite adjusted to hitting every campfire that I encounter. It seems like we're supposed to consider 10k mora = 1 hero's wit = 2 mystic ore = 1.5 blue talent books. But 20 resin = 60k mora, 4.5 hero's wit, or ~3 talent books. Assuming you can use all 3 talent types, both book types (talent and exp) are a better "deal" than straight mora. That's a pretty big if, though. | azuarc 01/24/21 1:29:47 AM #8 | Sounds like you were treated like shit. I was admitted for a few days...god, almost 15 years ago now. My experience doesn't sound anything like yours. Pennsylvania code keeps a person locked up for three days, and then they have to be reevaluated, or at least that was the rule then. Nobody in the facility treated me like I was beneath them, though. I didn't love being there, but I didn't have the impression the people hated their jobs and their patients, or need to have my shoes taken for fear of hanging myself from my shoelaces. I mean, maybe it's different when you actually move forward with an attempt, but it sounds like things were definitely not handled correctly. As for moving forward, I'm not going to tell you it will get easier. But it might. One of the things that I definitely wasn't doing back then was staying true to the medication. I'd feel okay for a while and go off it, or maybe it wasn't really the right medication to start with. I definitely notice now if I accidentally miss a day. My mood is different enough that I can tell. However, that doesn't mean I don't ever had bad days, days when I'm convinced my life has no value or that the only reason I don't make some kind of plan is because my cats depend on me. So yeah, it sucks and it's shit, but I hope that you manage to cope in whatever form that takes. Just don't rule anything out until you've given it a legit shot. I used to think exercise was the dumbest thing in the freaking world, and now I really miss the gyms being closed due to COVID. One of the most important things for me, and I imagine for most of us, is a sense of worth and connection. The times when I've felt most like going off the deep end have honestly been the times I've feared losing my connection to this community.
