https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/04/europe/russia-navalny-doctor-maximishin-dies-intl/index.html

A top doctor at the Russian hospital where opposition leader Alexey Navalny was treated immediately after his poisoning last summer has died, the hospital said on Thursday. Sergey Maximishin, who was the deputy chief physician of the Omsk emergency hospital, "suddenly" died at the age of 55, according to a statement released by the hospital. Navalny was initially admitted to the acute poisoning unit of Omsk emergency hospital No. 1 on August 20, after falling ill from exposure to military-grade Novichok on a plane heading from Siberia to Moscow. The plane made an emergency landing in Omsk.

Navalny was put into a medically induced coma and eventually evacuated to the German capital of Berlin, where he spent five months recovering from the poisoning. After returning to Russia, he was sent to prison this week for violating probation terms of a previous sentence. The verdict sparked swift condemnation abroad, including the US. Leonid Volkov, Navalny's chief of staff, confirmed Maximishin was in charge of treating the opposition leader. "Sergey Maximishin was the head of department that treated Alexey Navalny and was in charge of his treatment specifically his medically induced coma," Volkov told CNN. "(Maximishim) knew more than anyone else about Alexey's condition so I can't dismiss possibility of foul play," he added. "However Russia's health care system is very poor and it's not uncommon for doctors of his age to suddenly die. I doubt there will any investigation into his death," Volkov continued.

French police shut down a warehouse orgy with at least 81 participants on the outskirts of Paris because it breached coronavirus regulations. Locals alerted police to a party taking place in Collegien, around 20 miles from the centre of Paris, on Friday night. Officers arrived on the scene at around 9pm and found 11 people in the car park, who they fined 135 for breaking France's coronavirus curfew, which restricts movement from 6pm to 6am. At 11pm, officers were granted legal permission to enter the warehouse where a large number of people were engaged in an orgy. Local magistrates sitting in an emergency session authorised police to confiscate sound systems and light installations, along with alcohol, in the raid. A total of 81 people were handed fines for breaking the curfew and three people thought to be involved in organising the libertine party were taken in for questioning.
"The event was in breach of the curfew, and there were also problems with masks and social distancing," an investigator said.

It is the latest story involving a European orgy breaking lockdown rules to emerge in the past few weeks. In December,. Belgian police broke up a 52 person orgy in a house close to a Covid clinic. This came just after a far right Hungarian MEP Jozsef Szajer resigned after taking part in a Brussels sex party.

An elderly Thai man was knocked down and killed by a teenager in San Francisco. In an unprovoked attack, Antoine Watson, 19, charged at Vichar Ratanapakdee, 84, on Thursday during the seniors morning walk. Video footage shows the teen running at Ratanapakdee and pushing him over, knocking him to the ground. Ratanpakdees head appears to hit the garage door behind him as he falls. As Ratanapakdees hat flies off due to the Watsons sheer force, the cowardly assailant runs away. Watson was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse. His assailant Maylasia Goo, 20, was also arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to the attack. Ratanapakde was rushed to hospital but died two days later.

His family believe the attack was a racist hate crime. Eric Lawson, Ratanapakdes nephew, wrote in a crowdfund appeal for his uncles funeral that it was a COVID-19 fueled anti-Asian racism. Our family has endured multiple verbal Anti-Asian attacks since the beginning of the pandemic, this time it was fatal, he wrote. Racism has once again proven deadly. Anti-Asian racism has become a very serious danger to all Asian Americans, particularly in San Francisco. Its time the authorities took serious action to combat it.

TopicCountry Star Morgan Wallen removed from radio playlists after he used the n-word

https://variety.com/2021/music/news/morgan-wallen-country-radio-removed-racial-slur-1234899010/

The hottest star in music so far in 2021, Morgan Wallen, has suddenly gone very cold. His music has been pulled from the top radio chains, including Cumulus Media, iHeartRadio and Entercom, the cable network CMT, the satellite service SiriusXM and the streaming service Pandora, as well as being removed from any visible spots on DSPs like Spotify and Apple Music. These removals from his prime media platforms may constitute even bigger blows than his contract being suspended indefinitely by his Nashville-based label, Big Loud, with the support of distributor Republic Records, It all comes at the very height of his blockbuster success, which appears to be instantaneously crashing down after he was captured on video using a racial slur. Digital service providers were in a trickier position, not being able to summarily remove his music from being sold or streamed on demand. But several did move to make him virtually invisible on their platforms without a search. By late Tuesday night, Wallens image and tracks did not appear anywhere on the home page of Apple Music Country, and his songs were no longer anywhere to be seen in Spotifys list of 50 top Hot Country songs. These moves came not very long on the heels of Wallen being championed as the most successful out-of-the-box streaming country artist ever.

And the banishment has been startlingly quick considering the fact that his Dangerous: The Double Album release is soon to have a fourth week at the top of the album charts, which will set a record for consecutive weeks at No. 1 not seen by a country artist since Garth Brooks in the late 90s. What happens when his album has its fifth week on the chart, though, is anybodys guess.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/03/business/elon-musk-tesla-quality-problems/index.html

Critics have slammed Tesla for Model 3 quality issues for years. And now CEO Elon Musk is admitting even his harshest critic was right. In early 2018 engineering consultant Sandy Munro, who tears apart and reverse-engineers cars to assess quality, issued a brutal appraisal of the Model 3 citing "flaws that we would see on a Kia in the '90s." He noted inconsistencies such as uneven gaps between exterior panels and paint job issues, telling Autoline, "I can't imagine how they released this." Surprisingly Musk, who has often bristled at criticism, agrees. "I thought your criticism was accurate," Musk told Munro in an interview that aired Tuesday on the YouTube channel and podcast "Munro Live."

In the interview Musk also admitted that it might not be a good idea to buy a Tesla during a new model's ramp-up period. Munro's "Kia" critique came when Tesla was still struggling to meet early production targets for the Model 3. Musk's admission is quite a warning considering that the company is getting ready to start production of the Cybertruck pickup late this year, and is set to open new plants outside of Austin, Texas, and Berlin, Germany. "Friends ask, 'When should I buy a Tesla?'" Musk said. "Well, either buy it right at the beginning or when production reaches steady state. During that production ramp, it's super hard to be in vertical climb mode and get everything right on the details."

TopicNetflix accused of ageism for casting 35 y/o Carey Mulligan as a 56 y/o woman

https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/the-dig-netflix-carey-mulligan-age-b1796872.html

The Netflix film The Dig has been accused of ageism after casting the 35-year-old Carey Mulligan as a real-life 56-year-old woman. Mulligan stars in the movie, which was released last week (29 January), as the Suffolk landowner Edith Pretty, who in 1939 hired an archaeologist to excavate the grounds of her estate. Ralph Fiennes stars as the archaeologist, Basil Brown, and Lily James, Johnny Flynn and Ben Chaplin also appear. While the film has received praise from critics, a number of viewers have questioned why Mulligan was cast as Pretty, who died at the age of 59. The film covers the time period of 1939 until her death in 1942. Is it true the real life woman in The Dig, Edith Pretty, was 56 years old? tweeted the Poldark actor Beatie Edney. They just wont allow women over 40 on the screen will they? #ageism #middleagedwomen. Actor Catherine Russell tweeted: I dont blame Ms Mulligan, we all need the work, but please, if the part requires a woman of a certain age - FFS - give it to us!!! Not that the actress didnt do a great job but there are lots of great actresses of the right age group, wrote a viewer. I would far rather watch a realistic portrayal, wrinkles and all!

Mulligan stepped into the Pretty role after Nicole Kidman dropped out of the project. Kidman would have been a more age-appropriate choice, as she is 53. Speaking to BBC News, Mulligan defended the age gap between herself and the real Pretty. I suppose there is an age disparity between me and the real-life character, but then the sense of her I think was the most important thing, she said. I was aged-up slightly with make-up to try and split the difference a little bit. But it was more important to honour Ediths character and the humble, generous, extraordinary woman she was.
