Yep, it's the only mod I used. In terms of movement, everything felt pretty good aside from how jumping was. Jumping is...weird lol. I played the opening of Dark Messiah and that already feels better and smoother.

Never heard of it. What's it like?

It's a fantasy game set underground, since the surface is no longer livable and humans and other fantasy races moved their people down there to survive. You wake up in a goblin-ran prison cell with amnesia, and you escape and set out to figure out what's going on with the races and how you fit into it all. You can build your character up as a warrior, thief, mage, some kind of hybrid, your call. The overall story is average, as I'd call every Arkane game's main story tbh, but the gameplay and world building around it is still the addicting part.

Finished it this morning and had a blast, despite going into it having had the impression that it aged like crap and it's unplayable. It's ugly, certainly, but at the end of the day Arkane still proved to me that they still got chops even back during their first game. For the first time I actually enjoyed running around and exploring underground tunnels, since normally I HATE that kind of setting. The way your character progressed was really satisfying as well, providing you didn't stretch your skill points too thin. I went with a mage thief build and being able to do more and more spells, pick more and more locks, brew more kinds of potions, etc. and it felt so good. Especially the spell system, with how you mix and match runes and draw the symbols on the screen.

Game made me nab Ultima Underworld 1 & 2 (currently bundled on GOG for just over a dollar! :x) and currently installing Dark Messiah. It's my last Arkane game left until Deathloop and I feel kind of sad about it.

So I did an extra pull because I'm desperate. Got enough to get Yui shards and 2* her but her healing does like...20 points more right now? :l I read 2*ing was a substantial upgrade.

On the other hand I managed to pull Chika. Before I waste resources finding out, would Chika be better than Yui for early game?

I'm split on it. Very rarely can I get into roguelikes--I enjoyed FTL, Binding of Isaac, intending to give Hades a spin. I understand and agree with the argument that many roguelikes/lites have very weak level design and many use it to be plain lazy instead. I think cancer is too strong of a word when it just feels like a different strokes thing.

Honestly, the best thing I did was get rid of Yui. She gets recommended a lot but in early stages of the game her heals just can't keep up with some of the enemy's DPS if your tank is solo and not geared/ranked so high. Miyako is still great and having an offtank to share the frontline with her helped immensely.

Yui is my only healer lmao. I'm focusing on her memory shards now but dang it's tempting to pull. The one time I don't reroll in a game I feel is the one time I really should have.

Jumped on the Priconne train, feels fantastic to play this in English and I'm praying Crunchyroll doesn't do its normal thing to it. Pulled a few times and trying to save for future banners, even though I think I'm having tank issues. :( Wish I had Nozomi lol.

Current team is Yuki, Yui, Monika, Ninon, and 2* Peco. Was using Miyako but she was dying a lot in level 4 content.

And I mean...I do get that point of it. Any other time, it wouldn't be notable, I feel. And I don't think this little hubbub would be happening if it was "Anything but Mexican" or something, instead. But there is a racism target on Chinese people these days, though granted I don't know if it's similar in the UK or not. I get the impression the US is full of more assholes on average but I could be wrong, so it could come off different here vs there. If that's the case, it would also feel dumb to be bothered by a culture who largely don't hold the attitudes we have and the meaning isn't the same.

Keep in mind that Reddit accounts are really easy to make and it's part of the "culture" to make throwaways for different reasons, especially if you're posting something personal and don't want it connected to your main. There hasn't been any nudity and I don't think there will be, but there is violence and blood. It isn't gratuitous.

yes but it aired for 9 seasons ending in 97. it wasnt all produced and aired in one year.

the modern day stuff is pretty cookie cutter imo. very few new anime interests me. there was vineland saga tho which i thought was very good. it reminded me of berzerk but without the gorey monsters. if you've seen berzerk you'll love vineland saga, and if you haven't seen either id recommend those two.

as for classic stuff there's the highly acclaimed akira, yu yu hakusho, and NGE. but if you wanna stick with LOTGH i recommend the gaiden series, it takes place earlier in wenli's/reinhard's career. its just as good as the main ova!.

I do know a couple of those. NGE and Vinland, though the latter I used to read. My interest kind of dropped not terribly long after the time skip, unfortunately. I do want to give Akira a shot one of these days.

I don't blame you. I started watching it based off a friend's rec and I went into it wondering if it'll be dry. The first episode didn't convince me it wasn't, but (for me) it got better soon after that. No harm in trying it, though it depends on how much time you have and your interest in it vs other things.

Finished episode 26. That was really rough on my heart. :'(

you realize this was running during the golden era of anime right? this was airing when anime studios had to deliver quality storytelling or cease to exist, its not like todays business structure where quantity trumps quality. studios today just want content and dont very much care if its any good.

if youre gonna ignore anime from this era youre doing yourself a huge disservice

I consider it old, it's over 30. I didn't start really watching anime until a few years ago, and I still haven't watched a lot of the newer ones that are considered classics. OVA LoGH has a completely different animation and style than what I've found appealing before now. What else would you recommend from that time period?

The characters in this show are just Muaaach. So fucking good. Like GoT on crack but actually nails the ending.

Umm I'm not sure, legally. iirc the physical set is insanely expensive, too. My DMs are open if you want help looking for it though.

I've only watched 21 episodes of the OVA so far, Jessica and other civilians just got brutally murdered and I'm pretty sad right now. I never thought I'd be this into an anime that's this old, I admit to being one that needs the newer and shinier anime aesthetics before this. But this has been top quality and in a league of its own so far.

Seems like the way Japanese devs are going. All these "final edition" type things are being turned into dlc.

tbh I prefer that over completely new games like pre-World. I bought the base and Ultimate editions, so just buying DLC is way preferable.

I wonder how many monsters Rise will have.

Saw the trailer and it looks pretty cool, and I'm super stoked over the Mizutsune reveal. Boy's been one of my favorites.

It releases the same time as Story of Seasons though, so Rise will wait. It'll be a good opportunity to get some full game impressions from classic MH lovers at least.

This stuff doesn't shock or surprise me anymore. I just feel embarrassed.

I still don't know what to expect with Rise. I had fun with World, but at the same time it didn't feel like classic MH to be. Others have said Rise is just going to be World lite.

Maybe my old stubborn ass is just going to be stuck with Generations Ult until the day I die.
