I'd like to say "nah I don't think that's the case", but Christ - Keemstar, Philip DeFranco and H3H3 all prove that wrong.

I think what makes this video so special is the effort put into it. Those other three youtubers are basically tabloid rags like the Daily Mail, whereas this feels like an actual documentary in comparison.

Shane Dawson might as well be one of those parody GTA characters.

Maybe in GTA6, what with so many e-celebs turning out to be awful people. Maybe make some jokes at sitting on your ass for 18 hours a day and getting paid extravagant amounts of money to do it, then copping an early retirement after sexual assault allegations which won't hurt them because they've already made their money.

This is becoming a common occurrence, but it does make sense. Actual celebrities have at least one period of their career where they're drinking a ton and they're doing mountains of coke, living it up because they're the toast of the town - and then you find out 20 years later they had forceful sex with someone, or they started sleeping with fans of legal age and under, or they're secretly toxic and abusive to everyone around them. They get that one modicum of personal power, and they exploit anything and anyone they can to get the most out of that power.

Now, any average Joe can get a taste of that attention. Before, it was gated off to the upper class with their own sick self-interest - now, you've got the stinkiest chuds pulling hundreds of thousands of viewers a day and making a solid living, and using what little fame and influence they have to take advantage of people. Fame, and the entitlement and affluence that comes with it, is more accessible than ever - and we've been seeing e-celebs abuse their influence like that for at least five years now. It's not at all surprising that this behaviour is manifesting in people who are popular online, because any scumbag can obtain some semblance of fame to abuse.

Shane Dawkins?

Nice Freudian slip there lmao

Yeah, it's like 5am and I'm kinda bushed. Between watching that entire video and making this topic, I'm probably not in the best place to catch stupid autocorrect shit.

One thing the video maker does go out of his way to say is that he's not calling Shane Dawson a child rapist - but he is leaning very heavily into calling him a pedophile, considering the multiple instances of requesting sexual content from underage girls online and in the way he treats young girls in general.

At an absolute baseline, that might technically be better than what Dawkins actually did - got two 14 year olds drunk and had a threesome with them. If he's not in jail for that shit, he fucking deserves to be.

Then again, Shane Dawson did have that puppet show where an 8 year old character basically went through the process of getting groomed by him, and there are Shane Dawson fans who conflate that show they watched with later instances of getting groomed by older men. Dawkins has probably done worse things himself, but Shane Dawson has probably had a wider negative impact.

Yeah, dude is just posting videos and pictures and entire podcast excerpts to make his point. All of this is content Shane was putting out for years, and he tried to cover his tracks by claiming that all the bad stuff was just edited to make him look bad.

When D'Angelo Wallace said he turned off ads because he wasn't comfortable profiting off of a video like this, I knew it was gonna be bad. But I honestly didn't expect it to get THIS bad.

My first exposure to Shane Dawkins was in 2018 or 2019 when he was doing documentary videos on prominent youtubers. Never knew who he was before then.

Me and a friend watched his series on Jake Paul where they spent a video or two trying to categorise Jake Paul as a sociopath - as in an actual, clinically diagnosed sociopath. He was also involved in that whole James Charles takedown that happened last year, though that was behind the scenes.

Dude definitely had a second wind late in the 2010's.

Onision got cancelled last year for pedo shit, I think. The only exposure I've had to any Onision crap is a bunch of YouTubers reading his dogshit self-insert books and tearing them apart. Dude looks like a psycho, though, and apparently he pressured his wife into having an open relationship and tried to pressure her other partners into having a threesome.

This video is an hour long, and it takes so much of Shane Dawson's old content and pits it against him that it's insane. It's extremely disturbing, so watch at your own discretion.

The basic breakdown is this:

* Shane Dawson was cancelled in 2018 over an inappropriate story he told on a podcast where he described humping his cat until he came. He responded to this fiasco by saying he was clearly joking at the time, he would never do something so awful to a pet, and downplayed the whole thing as haters taking something stupid out of context. The video plays the entire story as it appears in a podcast in full - where at no point does Shane Dawson imply that he's kidding, and sounds like he's slowly going down the rabbit hole on something he actually did - and the video maker goes on to point out at least a dozen instances of him posting pictures of his pets in "sexy" positions with inappropriate comments. There's then photographic and video evidence of Shane engaging in weird, sexual behaviour with his animals, saying they're trying to tempt him and implying that he wants to have sex with him. Dozens of instances of him being sexually inappropriate with animals is shown, including one of his dogs trying to hump his face in a vlog and him saying that the dog is always that excited. It's far, far more common than you would expect, even as a joke, and the behavior stretches into the 2010's.
* The next subject is racism, where Shane apologizes for using blackface at the start of the YouTube career, and insists that it was a different time and that he was a different person at the time. Multiple videos are shown of him in dark facepaint, to the point of looking like an actual, honest to god minstrel, acting out negative stereotypes about black people and using exaggerated ebonics to paint an unflattering picture of black people - dating back to 2008. There's also a clip of Shane Dawson speaking disparagingly about black people, and a skit where a white woman uses the n-word to regard to two black men. The video maker discusses this period of his videos and talks about blackface in media of the time, like The Office and Tropic Thunder. The video maker makes the distinction between something like The Office or Tropic Thunder - which are lampooning white people and racially detached systems like Hollywood by showing absolute morons engaging in blackface and casting themselves in a negative light - making themselves the butt of the joke - to Shane Dawson, who is actively trying to imitate black people through racist stereotypes and negative attitudes/connotations - make "blackness" the butt of the joke. He then makes a case for Shane Dawson basically acting out minstrelsy for a new generation.
* The video then covers a more recent cancelling involving a creepy video, where Shane gives an incredibly inappropriate "birds and the bees" talk to his 12 year old cousin - where he and his girlfriend are shown describing sex acts to her as they act out stuff with Marshmallow Peeps. His apology for this is shown where he totally glosses over it and says he acted inappropriately with this family member and that he apologized and moved on. The video goes on to show him:
  • Interacting with fans over Omegle and Tinychat, asking them sexually inappropriate questions and asking them to do things for him. This is complemented by podcast recordings where he half-jokingly suggests that he's lucky he's not in jail, and alludes to being inappropriate with children over the internet.
  • Going on a long, rambling story about a 6 year old cheerleader who had 100,000 subscribers, and making multiple creepy comments about how skinny and sexy she was with no sense of irony in his voice.
  • Working with the Fine Bros. to make a series where he essentially plays out a grooming fantasy with a puppet portraying an 8 year old fan of his, who slowly uses/acts out more and more sexual jargon without understanding what it means - including a behind the scenes video where they make the naked puppet ask him if it's okay for her to touch herself. This series is later revealed to have been instrumental in several of his younger viewers being groomed by older men, as he's always billed his content as being aimed at younger fans and a fair few of them followed him over to this series.
  • Making inappropriate comments about how gorgeous Rebecca Black was as a teenager, when he was in his 20's and she was 15, claiming on multiple podcasts that she was acting like she wanted dick and just generally fawning over her in an inappropriate way. He also had a collaboration with Willow Smith during her Whip My Hair phase, where he made sexual comments about her while she was 11 years old. Jaden Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith both took him to task over this.
  • Kissing 13 year old fans on the lips, posing inappropriately with them where his hands are in compromising positions by his own volition, chewing a piece of gum and giving it to a 14 year old girl at her request, and telling a 14 year old girl to twerk for him on Omegle while he vlogs with his mother. She keeps fangirling out and saying how much she loves Shane Dawson while she twerks for him and his mother.
  • The point is made that none of these girls could legally consent to what Shane Dawson was doing, even at their request, and that as a man in his 20's he should have known better.
* The video then wraps up with a discussion of Shane Dawson the persona and Shane Dawson the person, and how people are defending the persona without understanding the actions of the person. I haven't watched this part yet, I'm gonna watch it after this post goes live.

I know that this post is gonna get a "why should I care" or a "tl;dr", but I'm posting this because I got the same sick pit in my stomach over this as I did when I saw Nerd City's DaddyOFive videos. That video series showcased video after video of children being abused and pitted against each other, and the dad basically manufacturing situations for him to yell at his kids and to pit them against each other for views. It's to the point that the dad is shown shoving one of his kids face first into a book shelf, telling one of his adopted kids he's going back up for adoption 3 separate times, and one of them starts showing up in multiple videos with bruises on his arms and face. And it's the same kid in each of those scenarios.

Like with the Shane Dawson video, I'll put the link here - but understand that you've been warned:

https://youtu.be/QOVrrL5KtsM

I think it's been proven without a doubt that Shane Dawson is a pedophilic creep. I really hope this video takes his career down for good, because the things that this video showcases really aren't forgivable. He makes the same "mistakes" time and time again, and he pins it on the times or the person he was at the time.

But people in their 20's and 30's know it's wrong to sexualize girls who are as young as 11 years old, and even under the weight of all the awful creepy shit he's ever done, he felt the need to exaggerate the behavior of a 19 year old YouTuber - James Charles - and claim that he needed to be taken down a peg for misconduct. He's an absolute hypocrite, he's almost certainly a pedophile, he unabashedly engaged in blackface on the level of minstrelsy and there's a very solid case that he has a weird sexual thing for animals.

And there is 10+ years of video content that proves this, over and over, literally dozens of times. It's incredibly fucking disturbing, and he needs to go down for good.

This is what science is all about. You have your crazy dipshits who whip up a bunch of shitty, biased studies to confirm some asshole's biases, which peer review is meant to weed out - but a person who is dedicated to science, to getting to the bottom of an issue so that there can be a definitive answer, will test and test and test until they can be satisfied with their final answer.

This dude spent years going "I don't believe that truly bisexual people exist, everyone shows preference for one gender or the other, therefore I believe that true bisexuality is bunk". He then spent twenty years testing people's attraction to both men and women, and at the end of his studies, he came to the conclusion that people do exist who exhibit equal attraction to both men and women. This isn't some quack whipping up some dipshit paper about vaccines causing brain damage that no-one of any credibility takes seriously - this is someone going to the end of the line to prove a hypothesis, whether it aligns with his personal beliefs or not.

I feel kinda bad about Konami profiting off the series in the wake of their exit from the video games market, with their only other output being basic port collections, mobile games that are filled with microtransactions, and a small handful of arcade franchises which utilise subscription services and premium currency on top of your standard pay-to-play mechanics. If there's any gaming company that can be called greedy through and through, it's Konami - and a part of me would rather just let them leech on their other revenue streams and hopefully die out one day.

On the other hand, I've been playing Phantom Pain on PS3 lately, and I would LOVE if that game got a Switch port. All I would ever need on my Switch is Fallout 3, Skyrim and MGS5/PW.

Yep, that's why I don't drink Little Fat Lamb any more. It's an 8% alcohol drink that comes in a bunch of different fruity flavours, technically classified as a fruit wine, but you can't find nutritional information about it anywhere and it's full of so much artificial colouring and flavoring that there's no telling what it actually is.

The last two times I've had Little Fat Lamb, I've spewed up about half a mouthful of bile into my toilet with what looks like yellowed, diseased parts of my stomach lining. But even after my stomach is completely empty, I've kept dry-retching into my toilet as if my life depended on it - both times, I was dry-retching for what felt like half an hour.

One of those times, I was so desperate to get to the toilet that I didn't even stop to put some pants on. So when I wasn't dry-retching into the can and staring at the half-mouthful of bile floating on the surface, my bare asshole was touching the tiles of my bathroom while I tried to lie in a way to calm my stomach down.

Worst fucking drinking experience of my life. Vomiting bile fucking sucks.

As we get older and fade out of the primary demographic targeted by video games, younger folks who come into that demographic are going to seek out spaces to talk about video games. It's the natural order of things - GameFAQs isn't going to pander to the exact same people over the course of its life.

If gen z take over GameFAQs, we might as well let them have it. Shit, it's not like they're any worse than convicted pedophile conspiracy theorist phone-tappers, bitchmade trolls with blogspot sites dedicated to "mod abuse" and people posting anti-semitic "gamers rise up" messages because you can't shoot a Jewish holy symbol in a video game.

At best, the current GameFAQs userbase is also uber-toxic and entitled - I don't think gen z is going to be that different, or even as bad as the current userbase. Might as well just concede the website to the next generation and fall back to familiar discords to talk about a broader swath of subjects with friends you've made along the way.

And yet molestation is still the result of sexualizing children. It's less extreme than rape, but it is still very much an example of sexual assault and it is most likely enabled by catering to pedo/ephebophiles with sexualised imagery of children.

Darkrobot makes a good point. Camera phones always make a shutter sound because there was a problem with creeps taking unsolicited upskirt shots. Molestation on trains - which itself is a popular scenario in hentai/doujinshi - has led to train cars for women and children only. "Molestation isn't rape" doesn't mean jack shit, because it's still a sex crime being committed by pervy shits being emboldened by the smut they consume and it still makes life significantly harder for people who are targeted by it.

Jesus, I feel so bad for Mike in the last 2 minutes of that video lmao

Ultimately, it's Shatner's decision whether he's interested enough in a thing to make an appearance on it. Being bombarded with fanboy shit about a YouTube channel or whatever, whether it's "fair" or not on behalf of the people being represented, is a justifiable reason to be distasteful of the thing being thrown at you. I think Mike accepts that, and I do think he's kept his hands pretty clean during this whole thing.

Ultimately this "controversy" has been fuelled by outside actors egging on William Shatner, and while I don't think he's wrong to have voiced his opinion on what little RLM content he's seen, I do feel bad for Mike who's had to bear the brunt of this fiasco on behalf of RLM and who will likely never get a chance to sit down with a childhood hero of his.

But I also feel bad for William Shatner who's been inundated with fan requests to go on the show. Doesn't matter what his reason is, even if it's based on content that isn't representative of RLM's usual output - if he doesn't like it, he doesn't like it. Let the man live.

If folks had just left the man alone, this whole drawn out thing wouldn't have happened and everyone would have walked away from it with realistic expectations.

MrMallard
07/21/20 2:41:21 PM

If a book was banned by a governing body, would you go out of your way to subvert that governing body to read the banned material?

For example, Operation Dark Heart was a 2010 memoir which was blocked by the Department of Defence for allegedly containing classified information. The DoD bought all 9,500 first edition books and destroyed them, and the author released a second censored version with parts of the book blacked out including index entries.

In Australia, there's a book called The Peaceful Pill Handbook about voluntary euthanasia and assisted suicide. According to Wikipedia, "the book is primarily intended for seniors, people who are seriously ill and their families and friends. It is also a resource guide for those working in public health and aged care. The book rates over 15 approaches to euthanasia according to reliability and peacefulness scales."

Personally, I'm pro-euthanasia - and the subject of a banned manual in regards to assisted suicide is interesting to me. What makes it even juicier is that it's been banned in Australia to the point where the only place online to purchase the book without restriction has been blocked out by the Australian government. The subject matter might be a bit too sensitive for me at the moment, considering it's literally a suicide manual and that makes me uncomfortable, but the fact that it's been banned so thoroughly in my country makes me interested in subverting that ban. That, or further researching the people who've authored this manual to understand their approach to euthanasia.

Alternatively, what's your take on the banning/censoring of literature in schools? The US has a bonkers amount of books that are challenged or banned every year, from Where the Wild Things Are to Fahrenheit 451 to The Hate U Give - the latter being banned due to being "anti-cop".

He barely speaks. The real MVP in this game is Robin Atkin Downes as Miller.

I think it's because Tom Cruise has such a big hand in the franchise nowadays that he can shop it around and make them when he feels like he can make a good one, whereas the first three were straight-up studio movies. Kinda like how every Die Hard movie is a script that Bruce Willis picks up and turns into a Die Hard movie.

Could be wrong though.

I did dig that flash kick Cruise pulls near the end.

ngl, this was probably my favourite part of the movie.

Actually, another fun thing I got out of the movie was the elements that placed it firmly in Australia. I don't mean the pandering shots of the Opera House or the Sydney Harbour Bridge - the number plates were accurate, for one, and the bad guys were driving Ford Falcons during that big action chase scene near the end. Me and a friend also spotted a Nissan Patrol when Tom Cruise was out in the bush. We got a big kick out of the Falcons.

I've been reading up on each movie as I've been watching them, and apparently the first movie was divisive for a couple reasons. One of them being the absolute kick in the nuts to fans of the original show that it was, and for apparently being convoluted and hard to follow. That's interesting to me, because stuff like the knife used to kill one of the agents and to get the fake NOC list and the second floppy disc Ethan uses to bamboozle the other guy are all set up pretty goddamn well. The twist was also very solid - I raised the theory of Jim masterminding his own faked assassination to my friend, and it was satisfying to see it pay off like it did. Maybe it was a bit convoluted at the time, but today it does come off as being stylistic, exciting and cohesive compared to some of the absolute schlock that was to come after it.

Meanwhile, Mission Impossible 2 apparently reviewed better than the first one and made more money at the box office. Whereas it's arguably dated more than the first movie - like sure, no-one smokes on planes any more and on-board movie systems are much more advanced than they were in the first movie, but nowadays those elements can be viewed as "classic" in a way, to harkening to an older age of spy gadgets and social values. MI2's aged aspects are lame props, bad CG, filler dialogue and spotty, overstylized action.

Honestly, this movie could have been saved with more action, less wild cutting between action scenes and less forced romance between Tom Cruise and his romantic interest. The action is only an issue because what little of it there is feels so overwrought and choppy, and it's sandwiched between some really dogshit set-up most of the time. The main problem is that there's so much filler - the CG is one thing, and the exploding sunglasses and nu metal is another, but what really kills this movie is that the dialogue is all so shitty and bland, and it makes up a bulk of the movie.

You'd be surprised, I actually like most of the Bond movies I've seen.

Back then we were all still wowed by both the relatively-new CGI and over-the-top stunts like the motorcycle joust. The visual spectacle of it all overshadowed the hackneyed writing and goofy premises, especially if you were a kid / teenager at the time. I think Attack of the Clones was the first movie where the spectacle couldn't overshadow the sheer stupidity of it all, and key movies over the following few years like Revenge of the Sith, Spiderman 3, and X-Men 3 really killed the honeymoon phase of the new wave of big-budget CGI+stunt-fests (especially when movies like The Incredibles were putting them all to shame by bringing together the whole package of enthralling and creative visual spectacle, quality writing, and good characters).

That's an interesting point. Like you've got your Fast and Furious type movies, and you have movies that are more style over substance because visual effects are at the cutting edge due to CGI... but then you get soulless hackjob movies like Ultraviolet that take it too far.

I think on top of exemplifying that shitty 2000's trend of "tired, shallow explosionfest" movies, Mission Impossible 2 just doesn't live up to the first one. But I think part of why I didn't like it as much as the first movie is because it was a tired, shallow explosionfest, with the hot chick for the sake of having a hot chick and half an hour of forced romantic scenes and tension and pining etc. The first movie was corny as fuck, and plenty of it was style over substance - but MI2 just nailed something about the early 2000's that was so hemogenous, so shallow and bland, that rather than writing it off as a bad watch on its own, I conflated it to the period of time it released in.

Some of it, sure. The forced romance and abundance of filler scenes, I'm not sure.

This is what happen when you make movies based on old TV shows.

That's not the case here, though. Ethan Hunt is an original character and the MI movies are basically his vanity projects. The properties it has in common with the TV show are mainly addressed in the first movie to my knowledge, where (MI1 spoilers) Jim Phelps, the main character of the 60's TV show, is a mentor figure to Ethan Hunt and a mole who Ethan defeats.

Everything forced and shitty that Mission Impossible 2 does, to my knowledge, is due to the trappings of action movies in the late 90's and early 2000's more than it is to being a known property. I don't think the forced love interest was ever a part of the show, and I think the movies have a sort of Bond Girl thing going on where there's a new love interest every movie.

Half an hour of forced romance, action that tries to look flashy and cool but comes off as convoluted and unnecessary, shoehorned CGI effects that look like shit (the glasses at the start, the dove), vapid, brain-dead dialogue for the entire movie and plain-faced misogyny.

I get that John Woo directed this movie and it tries to go for that Hong Kong action movie vibe near the end, but most of the movie is just vapid, shitty dialogue and forced romance. By the time the team is getting back to Sydney and starting the mission, 30 minutes of pointless bullshit has passed. It's a shitty movie.

And it sucks in a lot of ways I remember action movies sucking when I was a kid. It probably isn't the worst offender, but it's really unpleasant coming off of the first movie. The first movie wasn't perfect, but it was a great watch and it wasn't a boring turd like this movie was. It's like Mission Impossible 1 is Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and 2 is Warrior Within.

I got the PS3 version of MGS5 on release day. That first week of it being out was when I played it the most - shit was awesome, I had a great time. But shit started to get really fucky with each new patch.

In version 1.0, your GMP is all offline. You get the money, you store the money in your offline game. You have access to your grand total at all times.

At some point, the game decided to store 90% of your GMP online. For someone who had been playing since day one, like me, this meant that a majority of my in-game earnings - most of which, if not all of it, was earned offline - were now gated behind an internet connection.

But that's fine, as long as you can still spend it, right?

Well, when you went to buy gun upgrades and stuff in singleplayer, even if you were connected to the internet, the money would only come out of your offline GMP total. To the point where your GMP balance would overdraw and go into the red. I first learned this when I signed in, spent some cash on some gun upgrades, and then lost my internet connection. Several soldiers left due to lack of funds, and a bunch more of them died because I couldn't treat them in the sick bay.

I'm playing version 1.0 because I want total control over my GMP. Outside of some cool endgame gun upgrades, the later Phantom Pain patches didn't really contribute to the main game at all - it went towards online shit like FOBs, the garbage multiplayer mode and fucking you in the ass regarding your GMP.
