I listened to the same interview a couple weeks ago and I really found it fascinating how much work he's already poured into this project; I hope that he can continue the momentum now with the election finished. He'll have an uphill battle in the court system, however.

I disagree with the rest of your post, honestly. It has nothing to do with the metrics you're mentioning and everything to do with the fact that, as more information dripped out about the game, the less interested people got from the initial announcement. It was really easy to watch the interest in the game to cool from hot to tepid rather quickly.

And then, months after a completely unfunny joke was made, without context, that person might forget it was ever a joke and start spreading the news that you are a heavy pot smoker, because, after all, the internet says so, and it can be taken as an authority without any context.

For me, the experience of playing Morrowind is something I wish I could re-experience. For me, it was the first truly open world experience, and I never stopped being in awe of the dozens upon dozens of books and conversations that helped construct a living, breathing world for me. I know it was a primitive design at the time, but the schedule system as it was made me feel like these were AIs inhabiting a massive world. It was just, I don't know. Something special.

4 suffers from being a film made in committee, but like 2, it has a rather unremarkable villain that I think they do a good job of hiding behind the action of Willis. There's definitely something irritating about Kevin Smith being stuck with pretty much the entirety of the film's exposition. It felt like they were waiting until the last moment to give a point to what was happening. Even still, I think it's an enjoyable action film if you ignore the Die Hard label.

Yeah, I agree that 4 and 2 are extremely close, too. I think the big gaps are between 3 and 4 and 2 and 5 (even though 1 is probably my favorite pure action movie of all time).

I would actually be okay with more, depending on how it was positioned and when and where, but I do greatly appreciate that Lindelof was very open about being finished. I think Watchmen is a big universe, and you could tell a very different story here, if you wanted. Before Watchmen, for example, is often criticized, but there are some seriously great little stories in that anthology. Similarly, Marionette and Mime are fantastic characters that we'd never get without Geoff Johns pushing Watchmen into the DC Multiverse.

The issue is thinking a stylistic approach "gets old." It's just about the writing and directing. This is a bass-ackwards way to approach things - what you don't like is a dip in quality, not the nature of general tone and artistic direction. And let's stop calling things "shtick" that aren't "shtick".
