Can you link to this decision you're talking about? I can find no SCOTUS case involving Flynn. As far as I can tell the most recent thing was that the DC circuit initially ruled against Sullivan 2-1, but then the court reverse it en banc 8-2.

The entrapment is exactly the same shit the FBI does in basically every other case. If youre bringing it up here I hope youre also complaining about how they use those same tactics for drug dealers or terrorists or whoever.

And no, the judge does not legally have to accept a case being dropped, and there was very good reason for him not to accept it here.

A 23% increase in suicides would be an additional 12000 or so for the year (actually 10000 since January and February suicides were presumably normal). Thats a problem, to be sure, but its like 4% of the covid death toll.

And if were going to look at consequences beyond just death, fair enough. But then you also have to consider that there are going to be many times as many people as those who died from covid who will have long term health effects from the disease.

And ultimately, if you pull it all back, if we had had a really good response to the virus like some other countries (e.g. South Korea) we could have cut back on all of these consequences by more than an order of magnitude.

That's suicidal thought. I'm talking about an actual increase in suicides comparable to the number of covid deaths. I have not seen any data suggesting that suicide beyond normal levels is taking place at nearly that scale.

And I'm not dismissing it; increases in suicidal thoughts are a problem. But if you're using it as a justification for people flouting pandemic guidelines, I need evidence that at least a comparable amount of harm is being prevented as is being caused, and I don't see that at all.

Most importantly, covid infections rise geometrically (i.e. proportional to current infections), and we're about at a breaking point where death rates are going to spike as hospitals are overwhelmed. Simultaneously, we actually have a finish line in sight given the extremely promising vaccine trial data. I completely understand that things suck, but peoples' choices over the next few months are going to determine the fate of possibly hundreds of thousands of lives in the US.

You can hold onto stuff now if you want, but you'll eventually run out of armory chest space. Dungeon-quality gear is easy to get, so don't feel bad about getting rid of stuff that you might eventually use.

(One exception is that you might want to hold onto gear that you think looks particularly cool; you can put this in a glamour dresser if you just want it for the appearance).

Definitely don't feel compelled to skip any cutscenes. People will usually wait. Occasionally an asshole tank will start a fight early. I've never seen anybody yell at anybody else for watching a cutscene, though.

Until anybody shows me any credible data about deaths by suicide happening on the same scale as covid deaths this year I'm absolutely not going to entertain that as a reasonable excuse to have large holiday gatherings, particularly at the same time that hospitals are at their breaking points. I would be shocked if at this point we're not going to have people dying for preventable reasons by the end of the year because their weren't enough hospital resources.

They had two separate protocols, both with two doses a month apart. For the group that received a full dose each time, the vaccine was only 62% effective. The other group received a half dose the first time and a full dose the second time, which was, strangely, much more effective (90%).

In any case, it definitely appears to be worse than the mRNA vaccines (both ~95% effective).

It's easy to make it work. We just ban absentee voting. All of the states counted their election day ballots well within 24 hours. Most of them got it done within 8 hours.

Im pretty certain that this is not true for provisional ballots

I mean if the proposal is to actually increase funding to elections, to require states to start counting mail-in ballots as they receive them, etc, then that sounds good to me

Requiring the count to be done in 24 hours doesnt make any sense unless you can identify a consequence that wouldnt be terrible (like not counting whatevers left or penalizing their federal funding or something like that). I dont see how there would be any sort of enforcement of this that wasnt itself hugely problematic.

You guys are acting like we don't have a judicial branch for a reason. You don't need to slippery slope it, it wouldn't be th first time the law says the government needs to do X and the government doesn't do X so it goes to court. Tie election funding to it the same way the federal government browbeat states into increasing the drinking age to 21.

I read today that other countries were flabbergasted that a country as rich as ours would take this long to count. We aren't hiring enough people to count votes fast enough

I don't see how it's a slippery slope argument to expect that not all states would be successful in counting all ballots within a day and to want to know what the proposed resolution is
