Since no one said the actual number and I have to complain about shitty communication: US GDP fell at an *annualized* rate of 32.9% last quarter (which is, of course, extremely bad and which lies squarely on Trump for his abysmal failure in dealing with covid).

However, when most people hear that, theyre going to think GDP fell by 33%, when it *actually* fell by 1-(1-.329)^(1/4) ~= 9.5%.

I also didnt realize exactly how polarized mail in voting is looking to be this election; even if ballot rejection doesnt end up being hugely relevant, if most Republicans vote in person and most Dems vote by mail, we would probably see huge swings to the Dems from election night to final tallies, which will surely lead to baseless claims of rigging by Trump.

They're never going to agree. Some are against crap like the money for the FBI building, some aren't because they want to kiss Trump's ass. And some just flat out don't want to give any money, period, and instead just want to open things up and say fuck you to those that don't have a job.

A deal will eventually be reached because the halt in payments is going to cause shit to hit the fan really fast. Unfortunately that's going to mean completely unnecessary suffering for like a month or something.

Well I'm certainly not trying to "both sides" here; Trump has been way worse on this than any of the Dems. I do think that there was a self-inflicted blow to their credibility, though (e.g. it's totally understandable why someone would ask why the protests are important enough to go on despite the pandemic but their job isn't. Of course, the virus doesn't give a shit about any of that). Totally possible that these attitudes would still exist at close to the same levels with some other pretext, but I do think the possible risks were irresponsibly handwaved away.

The way this disease works there is a 1-2 week delay between infection and when the case would be identified, and there's an enormous spike in COVID cases that looks like it starts roughly ~2 weeks after George Floyd's death. It's hard, if not impossible, to separate the effect of protests from the effect of states reopening, but the data is certainly consistent with the hypothesis that the protests drove a spike in cases.

I believe there have been some contact tracing studies that suggest that the protests were resulting in much lower rates of infection than one might have feared (surely helped by the fact that they were outside and most people were wearing masks).

That said, we could absolutely not be confident that this would be the case ahead of time, and I think its fair to say that Dems (and even quite a few public health officials) did not apply the same level of scrutiny as they would have had they not so identified with the cause. Ultimately I think that did do damage in contributing to the nationwide attitude that it was safe to start going back to normal.

Assuming by "solo" you mean no premade groups, yes (you actually have to go through dungeons with other players to proceed with the story, but all of them are easily doable with randomly matched groups).
