I don't necessarily believe they should be mandatory, but if you are going to refuse to vaccinate, then you should be shunned from society. No school for your kids, no work for you. If you're that scared of a vaccine then go live in the woods by yourself where you can't spread the disease the rest of us are trying to protect vulnerable people from.

You talk about the doctors actions but that entire scene literally makes no coherent sense unless it is real

I agree it was supposed to just be cool goosebumpsesq twists and the writers didn't give it a lot of thought

Honestly, I don't feel it is. They say you can pick your friends but you can't pick your family. I say you pick your SO and you can adopt your children, why would it be any different for the rest of the people you call family. Granted my perspective is probably a little warped from my father abandoning my mom when he found out she was pregnant and my mom giving up my sister for adoption and putting me and my brother in foster care constantly because she fucking sucks at being a good mother.

The doctors telling her to kill her friends so she doesn't go back there, doesn't make any sense from a medical perspective. Obviously it's a ploy to get her to fall victim to the poison and lock her in the new reality of her being in a mental hospital. The last shot is actually a metaphor for the possibility of trapping her there being lost forever.
