yeah people acting like three syllables is somehow more legitimate than one is the legit baffling part of this topic

Well, it's probably easier for those people to imagine putting extra emphasis on the end of the word over just completely eliminating the a. One is a case of weird emphasis on something already there. The other is eliminating a vowel for no reason.

"Hour" is another example that tends to be a little bit easier for people to understand how it works, since more people tend to say it closer to one syllable than they do fire.

how the fuck is fire one syllable

this topic infuriates me

Because words like "fire" contain triphthongs, which is basically when you have three vowel sounds so close together they can be pronounced in one syllable. Thus, it's technically one syllable. Depending on where you're from and how you've been raised to speak, however, it can be hard to say such sounds in one syllable, and thus it ends up pronounced in two.

Poets used to take advantage of this by going back and forth on such words as one syllable or two depending on what they needed.

FRIENDSHIP!

This is true friendship.

Last time I was top 2 near the top at Fall Mountain with a friend who has many more wins than me, we were right near each other and he jumped into me to ragdoll me.

I played Jinx and honestly had no clue what the point of the game was, but my team won, so whatever.

Jinxed players have pink stuff swirling around them. If you're jinxed, you want to grab members of the other team that aren't jinxed in order to jinx them. If you're not jinxed, you want to avoid being grabbed.

Whichever team has all their members jinxed first loses.

I think it has to do at what point of the dive you're in when you hit the ball, and at what angle.

Hitting it lower is going to send it flying, and hitting it at the very beginning of your dive is going to hit it further.

Whereas it seems hitting it high or like mid-dive doesn't do a ton.

And then obviously jumping into it from below just punts it

EDIT: The momentum of the ball itself also matters. The faster it's moving, the more it'll fly if you hit it back.

With a low number of people it's pretty much impossible to corner them though unless they suck. There are too many outs.

Which, sure, it works on bad players that run around the perimeter and such, and I guess it's nice to get easy wins from that, but it's just not any fun.

EDIT: At the very least, it needs to be shorter.

I like Fall Mountain because atleast you actually play it.

Tail you just shouldn't even bother playing until the last 20 seconds if you don't have the tail. And if it's a low number of people, you may as well not play at all because it's just so easy for whoever starts with the tail to win.

It's still a matter of "select a character and punch things." The customization doesn't change that, just increases your numbers so the things you punch can die a little faster.

I mean you can say that about literally any game ever.

"The newer Paper Mario games are fine because experience and leveling doesn't change anything, it just increases your numbers so things die quicker."

It's a bad argument.

Well, right, I don't disagree there. It's a deeper issue that extends beyond just "put them on TV." I'm not literally saying "Just put them on TV."

I'm just saying atleast make SOME attempt to get people to know who these women actually are so you can put them on TV more.

And especially don't tell people what basically comes off as "Nah nobody wants to see women's wrestling"

Why would you compare watching something at home to watching something in a movie theater? Most people have really bad home theater setups

Because it's the premium for not having to wait. And just like there are perks to a theater, there are also perks to being at home. Comfier seating, not having to put up with lines or a bunch of other people, being able to pause, and so on. The reason movies are cheaper when they end up on demand later on isn't completely because it's at home vs. a theater, it's because you've had to wait longer to see it and they're also trying to rope people into watching it again.

$30 is a little much, but it's not outrageous.

For one person, it's steep, sure, but discounting families seems silly.

The family argument is silly. How much does it cost to buy a DVD or Blu Ray for a family to watch together? This price is insulting.

This argument fails on a few levels

  1. A brand new Blu Ray is typically $25-30 to begin with unless it's on sale.
  2. Why would you compare it to the price of a Blu Ray instead of the theater costs, anyway? The average person isn't buying a brand new Blu Ray for their very first viewing of a movie if they can help it.
