You are skipping the logistical part and going straight to emotional.

In the short term these peoples lives will improve, albeit briefly as the market will catch up to the wage hike and everything goes up. It is so easy to say that if you don't support doubling the minimum wage then you hate poor people. So stupid. So typical. "If you are X then you ARE Y there is NO logical argument between!!" Like seriously grow up and think, don't just spit in our faces and tell us we are evil because we disagree. Minimum wage is not how we solve poverty. Technology, policy and intelligent use of welfare for those unable to work--that's how. For evidence of this, look no further than the world economy. There are EFFECTS to minimum wage hikes beyond the immediate benefit that will, in the end, make it even more difficult for unskilled workers in our economy. Young people. People with low IQs. Recovering addicts. Ex-convicts. It's already extremely difficult for these people to enter the workforce.

Go look up how far the average GDP in 3rd world countries has risen in the last 70 years. There is progress around the world.

ALSO; perhaps it is the inflation itself (from unaccountable banking systems) that is the problem.

^^ Mcdonalds and Walmart are duking it out in my town for employees, both start at $12 now and Subway has counter tips + tips on cards to remain completive. The University in our area starts at 11 for custodian staff. minimum wage is 9.50 here. The local pizza shop pays drivers minimum wage (dominos doesnt) but they have to learn to be in the restaurant. All of these places are always looking for help.

I work at an office that tries to get the unemployed into jobs that suit them if anyone is wondering.

When I worked behind the counter me and everyone I know who also worked there hated being patronized by people like you. I'm just letting you know---it might be well intended but it makes you seem out of touch and inconsiderate. Just order politely and leave, that's the best thing you can do for fast food employees, especially at Chipotle or Subway or Jimmy Johns where you are standing there watching them make your food.

I just want to let you know. And if you don't believe me, ask them what kind of customers comments are most annoying. That's a question we actually love to answer.

That's literally what the minimum wage was originally intended to do.

It was a very different time. Jobs like dishwashers, wait staff, public help, gas station employees etc were all paid under the table and/or thru tips and there was still a lot of apprenticeship going on.

It is ridiculous to ask employers to pay people enough for a car, a family of four, a mortgage + bills for unskilled work. That did NOT happen in the 1938 if that's what your thinking.

Now those apprentice jobs are gone and we are left with "minimum wage" jobs. If you saw the margins for the restaurant industry/retail, you will understand why minimum wage is such a debate. Esp if it suddenly jumps from less than 8 in some states to 15 bucks....it's going to take the market a long time to catch up, factor in complications from Corona virus and you could see the death of most jobs that are slightly above minimum wage like retail management, entry level office positions, etc and burden employees with greater work-loads, making it harder for unskilled workers to enter the workforce.

Add in the fact that a FEDERAL minimum wage is completely stupid, as each states economy is completely different. $15 in Michigan is very different than $15 in LA County. Why this isn't taken into consideration is beyond me.

I think a much better middle ground solution would be make the states minimum wage some percentage of the average cost of living or something, but then that could lead to other problems like industry moving across states or...idk, it's tough.

In only a few states in the federal minimum wage still is still applicable. Even in shitholes like Michigan minimum wage is at least keeping up with inflation.

Balance as a point is overrated. At no point in an e-sports popularity factor did balance play that big of a part. That is to say there shouldn't be utter imbalance because that's a horrible viewing experience, but there's a seriously diminishing to negative return for improving balance after a certain point.

For a more obvious point, it's on whether or not balance is actually entertaining to watch. If there's a bunch of limiting factors that stifle the speed or constant reflex checks of the plays that are happening for the sake of balance, and it came down to players themselves finding fun in nailing that long cd move, it's not gonna succeed as an e-sports to a general audience. FPS is easy to watch because on a surface level, a lot of shit is happening for casuals to be impressed by, but also on a deeper level, long time watchers can still appreciate the overall level of the gameplay.

Excessive champion variety is not a good thing for viewers. If you limit the champions used for a year, then by the end of it, a lot of viewers are more familiar with what's on the screen. This is why you often find people who haven't watched League for a while easily jump back into watching it and their viewership actually increasing this year than last despite less champions being played.

Bigger champion and skill expression range is bad for players. I've been like really absorbed in e-sports for a while, and a thing I hear a lot from players doing very frank and open interviews is their actual % of skill shown on the screen. They were arguing that because the meta changes often, truly great players stay on top like Faker, and one-tricks or non-flexible players keep falling off. So playing professionally became a game of how many characters they can play at like 40% and not absolutely lose to people playing the character at 80-100%. A lot of teams sometimes prevailed over better teams by picking op 40% champs over underpowered 80% champs. But that's not reliable, so they prefer the kind of meta that have 4-5 champs on each role that they can instead play at 60-70% because that makes it easier to compete with whoever was lucky to be able to play their 80-100% champs.

One other example is that Melee is still alive despite Ultimate existing. More than 1 ex-pros have talked about how Ultimate just has too many characters and match-ups to study for, that a jank pick from lower tier players can often just randomly end runs of higher tier players, and higher tier players just knock each other out in losers, leading to poorer top 16s.

I dunno, I just often see people who are almost exclusive in the Dota 2 sphere say a few things that I just don't think applies to e-sports. At the end of the day, it's purely entertainment and competition second. If you like the game more because of this or that, I think it's reasonable, but you also shouldn't be confused by League e-sports blew up over Dota 2's

Dota 2 has maybe 1/10th the viewership of LoL, however, it's still in the top 10 Esports games. Match variety is a factor for viewers watching, especially long-term viewers, like people who actively play the game I don't feel League holds a candle as the variety of strategies that can be played in any given Dota match is more akin to an RTS compared to League.

Fair points you have but I think the barrier of entry is higher but the longevity of the scene is larger.

Dota 2's balance is quite good. It's because every hero is unique in a specific way rather than the template of most League Heros.

That's why there is stigma. Of course a dog's aggression is based on it's life up present, but the problem is Pitbulls are hyper powerful dogs so an aggressive Pitbull is far more dangerous than an aggressive Golden Retriever---there is also the fact that naturally the breed tends to be more aggressive on average.

How many Golden Retrievers do you know that are dicks? I've seen labs abused and neglected that are still timid sweetys.

What people don't realize is that this money will have to be paid back at some point, and it will have interest and fall on Gen Z adults.

That's why it's not exactly 100% for sure a good idea. It will decrease the value of the dollar long term and the short term gains will be for amazon/apple/google/mega corps as most Americans will blow it rather than putting towards their debt.

This guy doesn't know anything about climate science or climate solutions. What he does specialize in is providing ready made world views for the susceptible by speaking with equal parts jargon and confidence and hiding the ideology between those two.

The topic is about the difficulty understand the concepts of Climate Change in a politically polarized world. You don't have to be an expert to speak on what is self evident.
