Last I heard, he failed to update his current address with the authorities. There is a 48 hour window, but apparently his family moved out of that residence, at the latest, last December.

Only one teacher did, but it was within a year or two of 9/11, so patriotic tensions were still high. I've bought a couple. A twin for my 4 year old. It serves its purpose. I've laid on it and I found it a bit soft more my taste, but I like a firm mattress.

I bought an extra firm one for me and my wife. Its a very sturdy mattress, but it may be a bit too firm on its own. My fault for buying it online with no testing. Nothing that buying an extra cushioned cover didn't fix.

But more generally, paying rent isn't anymore "working for" your landlord than paying for groceries or video games is "working for" Kroger or Nintendo.

The worst part of this all is that I don't think he's trying to be malicious (weird and naive as that may sound). We've had ongoing issues with this landlord being TOO attentive.

Once we mentioned to him that we think we saw a mouse. He texted back immediately saying he would come over and he was at the house in 20 minutes (im pretty sure he lives a 30 minutes drive away). He set up traps everywhere and then randomly vacuumed the entire carpet. He then came back 3 times in the following fortnight to check the traps until we had to send him an email politely asking him to calm the fuck down and stop intruding.

This is one example of many where the guy was clearly just very very anally-retentive about his property. I should have known he'd do this.

In that case, I'd ask to sit down with him and have him really explain to you how he came to those itemized price points for the cleaning.

Don't underestimate just what cigarette smoke can do to a place. It gets into all the vents, carpets, drapes, yellows the walls, ceiling, etc. It's a very time consuming process to get rid of the smell and stains.

Oh. Yeah, id definitely say that cigarette smoke is a good reason to hold someone's deposit. Kinda thing you would really have to clean thoroughly.

I'd ask a lawyer about it.

Passive income just means money that you receive for your work that you did that still pays you today.

Passive income could be rent, stock dividends, royalties, ad revenue, etc.

I dont think you understand what is happening here. If you are making passive income it is you making money. No one said anything about you paying someone.

Paying rent to your landlord isn't you working for them, it is you paying for goods and services. May as well say that you're working for the restaurant owner when you go out to eat and buy a pizza.

The people the landlord pays would be gardeners, repair workers, etc. The people working for him.

Sounds like an asshole. I wouldn't pay it.
