I got into Achievement Hunter because I recognized Michael.

What, from Rage Quit? No, silly, his early work:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lycdmvj9Rbk

I watched this video like ten times back in the day then eventually stumbled on a Lets Play. Hearing his voice talking in the same room as Grif from RvB was so bizarre I had to learn more.

Yeah what Adam did is nowhere near the level of what Ryan did

It's actually fucking me up how much of a monster Ryan turned out to be. It's not like I knew the guy personally but I still watched a shitton of videos with him, and apparently knowing him personally wouldn't have helped either because the other AH people seem genuinely shocked and devastated. You just never know what other people are capable of when they're behind closed doors.

Actually, if I had to create a list of AH content being released right now that I drop everything to watch, it's something like...

Face Jam

oh that's nice to hear, I haven't seen anything with Fiona in recently since I don't watch everything from the company but I remember how horribly people were treating her when she first started. Her early videos were a little rough trying to gel with the rest of the crew but she seemed cool enough, but not being the best at games plus being a female just sets fandoms like this off. Seems like she's found a spot with the podcasts and such too from what I've seen, which is cool. Hopefully the RT fandom likes her more than they did earlier, I know Lindsey went through the same thing too.

There was a big blowup regarding the roosterteeth fandom and endemic racism, and the company and talent are taking a much more proactive approach towards telling racists to fuck off. It's a work in progress but the community is overall significantly more supportive than before.

Fiona herself is fantastic in videos now that she's found her groove.

Yeah...that Off Topic is a tainted now though because it contains a segment where everyone wonders about why Ryan always takes an extra day off when they travel, and brush it off as him wanting a bit of extra alone time. The extra 'day off' they were pondering matches up with one of the victim's reported dates of meeting up with Ryan.

Transparency yeah, but the time thing applied to Ryan just as much as any of them. When you look into how far the extent of this go - we're talking potentially over thirty victims - it's mind-boggling that he found the time to be a serial predator in between work, family, and streaming.

Here's some counterpoints to the elephant image I posted:

I have aphantasia as well, and find this picture interesting but I don't really imagine an elephant like this. No words, descriptions etc. I'd just imagine the idea of an elephant don't really know how to explain it. I'll just know what it is without consciously thinking of these words or phrases. Saw someone else on this subreddit refer to it as Invisible Imagery. Similar to how I've heard people who can visualise imagine things, but just... without the visualization. Hope this made sense

Oh weird, I don't think in terms of visual characteristics at all. I mean I can explain what it looks like if I have to, that process is more akin to rote memorization than actual conceptualization.

But when I think of something like an elephant I would think about the sound it makes, it's feeding habits or ecosystem, behaviors, etc

So yeah, this varies greatly from person to person.

If you can visualize vivid colors then you don't have aphantasia. The term isn't 'can't visualize things perfectly', it's can't visualize ANYTHING, or barely anything. Most people aren't able to visualize things perfectly.

Well I mean I don't literally "see" anything but I do have a fairly clear feeling of what a star looks like that's hard to describe exactly what the feeling is, like I can roll my eyes around in my head to follow outlines and stuff. But as far as what I'm literally seeing it usually is just black. I dunno. I tried really hard just now and I thought I "saw" a 2 or 3 but that's generally more detail than I'll see.

So maybe I have it?

I do see images when I dream though.
People with aphantasia can have visual dreams, I think. Some can, some can't.

Are you able to visualize things in other scenarios? Like, if you're reading a book, can you picture the scene you're reading?

I can somewhat understand that my ability to visualize things I'm reading changes drastically based on how I'm feeling at the time. I mean Im pretty sure I dont have it, but even being made aware that its a possibility is messing with me now
From what I understand, people with aphantasia literally can't see anything but black when they close their eyes. There's also different ranges of people's abilities to imagine visual images - not everyone is going to be able to picture the star well, but as long as you get SOMETHING you don't have aphantasia. The opposite is hyperphantasia, which I've seen described as basically being able to play an HD movie in your head.

Aphantasia is a mental condition characterized by an inability to voluntarily visualize mental imagery.

Essentially:

https://i.redd.it/uf5brm3to1e21.png

If you're told to imagine a picture of a red star in your mind, and you can't picture an image of greater detail than 1 or 2 on that image, you probably have aphantasia.

I can like a cooking smell, but not in any strong way beyond 'this is mildly pleasing'. I get way more enjoyment out of knowing that I'll be able to eat something I like soon than the smell itself. Conversely, cooking smells for something I don't like can be nauseating.

In general, even the smells I like the most don't go beyond 'mildly pleasing' status while the smells I dislike can be horrible to deal with. I had to room in a old, musty dorm in my first year of college that smelled gross and it was a thoroughly miserable experience. More good explanations on how conservatives think

https://tinyurl.com/y4utf8g2

It's pretty simple.

Empathy is an evolved trait to facilitate social cohesion in a tribe and make sure other members of the tribe survive, since their survival increases your genetic success. So pretty much all humans, minus those with ASPD, have empathy for other humans they view as part of their tribe.

The issue is how a person internally views their tribe and what other humans are part of it. There are many people with what could even be considered an overdeveloped sense of empathy in that they view the human species in totality as "their tribe". Then there are people who at the very least view their own countrymen as their tribe.

Then there are people who only view their race as their tribe, or their gender as their tribe, or specifically their own friends and family and coworkers as their tribe. They have a complete capacity for empathy, but their brain only applies it to humans that they view as their allies. This is tribalism, and it's the root cause of bigotry and spite the world over.

Many conservatives only view other conservatives as part of their tribe, or even more narrowly the actually bigoted ones only view other conservatives of their particular "group" as part of their tribe (e.g., a racist white conservative won't view black conservatives as anything other than tools; a Christian conservative won't view Muslim conservatives as anything other than tools; etc.).

As soon as it's their tribe being affected, then they care. Then they care all too much. But if the "liberals" suffer, they're good. Those guys are an enemy tribe. If the racial minorities suffer, enemy tribe. If the other religious people suffer, enemy tribe. If the "urban people" suffer, enemy tribe. If people from other countries suffer, enemy tribe. And so on and so on.

It's also conspicuously why many conservatives who have a close relative come out of the closet are suddenly now pro-gay. The tribalism short-circuits, and they either need to determine whether the family member is no longer their tribe, or gay people are their tribe. Some go the first way and disown their kid or whatnot. Some have an astounding change of heart where gay people aren't an issue anymore because now they know "one of the good ones" and "that's family".

It all comes down to tribalism. Progressives are much more likely to view people outside of their arbitrary characteristics as part of their tribe. They're concerned with people they've never met, they see or hear of those peoples' suffering, and they want those people to not suffer. Conservatives, not so much. A progressive cares a whole lot that children are being held in cages. A conservative cares a whole lot if their children are being held in cages. They both have empathy, but the conservative's empathy is far more restrictive and narrowly applied.

It's not that all conservatives are sociopaths. They aren't. But they are tribalists, almost uniformly. And the actual sociopaths who message to them abuse that fact to keep them obsessed with petty divisions in order to trick them into voting for rampant corporatist exploitation. Full-blown false consciousness tactics, through and through.

None of these are earthshattering revelations, but people here seem routinely confused about why Republicans are the way they are, so I'll keep posting them as I find them
