David Hayter is the number one reason I feel dividing this into individual games may have been better. Hes good in MGS, solid in 2 and Twin Snakes, and mediocre to terrible elsewhere, in fact he gets worse with each appearance (its super obvious in Twin Snakes where everybody else sounds much better and he sounds worse). I would even go as far as to say that on balance, his performances were pretty bad.

Also its a shame to see Viva Seifert in such a matchup in round 1. Go play Her Story, she carries the entire game. McLain is pretty great though.

Given that this was in the next batch after DKC1, two months later, I would say DKC3 can be expected in about two months!

Anyway back to DKC2, I agree, it's a great game with an incredible soundtrack. I played through the first with my girlfriend on Switch (her first time) when that came out so I'm looking forward to doing the same with an even better game!

I love the design of Tall, Tall, Mountain.

Having just played through the game again on Switch my main complaint on the later levels is that the 3d controls werent ready for that kind of challenging platforming. The ones that are less about that are just as good as the earlier ones.

The people saying "the camera sucked then!" are definitely being unfair as the technology to have the kind of camera system we have now didn't exist in 1996.

I played through all of Super Mario 64 this weekend, I actually beat it for the first time (I had gotten to the last Bowser fight as a kid but never actually won). the level design is still great, the visuals and sound hold up surprisingly well. I had a great time playing it. However, I definitely had camera problems in the later levels. In the ones that are more wide open (which to be fair, is most of them) it's not really a problem but when you get to the precision platforming of the last two courses in particular it gets a bit annoying.

I have touched Sunshine as well, and I think to play it feels slightly better than 64 purely because of the camera. With that said, we do need to cut 64 some slack because of its time, and the design is much better. A lot of the frustrations in Sunshine come from the design not technological limitations of the time.

All in all, I think with Galaxy the 3D Mario games took a flying leap forward and never looked back. Preliminary ranking:

Odyssey>Galaxy 2>Galaxy>3D World>>>3D Land>64>Sunshine

Though bear in mind, they are all really good games and those top four are all all-time greats.

KP thats an excellent summary, but I think it needs to be supplemented with a simple and dangerous fact: Trump is prepared to do everything he says. Which as we all know includes a lot of fascism.

We see this time and time again in history: the moderate right allowing the far right to rise to screw over the left, thinking that the fascists arent serious. They always are. Its really vital that Trump loses firmly or its the end of American democracy as we know it, and moderates may stumble right into that because they think that can never happen and that its all just talk.

As a general note the UK gets extra shafted in the price department. From 50 RRP to 70 RRP. Definitely due to the crash of the pound thanks brexit. Basically in line with the euro price as well, which is also a pretty sharp increase (previously games were a little cheaper in the UK).

The US has it easy!

With Spider-Man and Horizon on PS4 and Demons Souls on PC, this all makes the PS5 a solid no buy. Ill play the first party titles elsewhere which is a wild sentence.

Also they kind of went back on their central philosophy with all the cross-gen games. Its not a bad move but it is a confusing one - they sold this thing on generational shifts and now theyre saying actually no. But the games all look like PS4 games anyway so no big deal.

Now that sounds negative but as a software lineup this was pretty good! But at this point consoles are clearly just for the never-PC crowd. Which is fine!

I dont agree with the language used there. But you have to understand that this isnt to do with just conservatism, its specifically using a very loaded term thats literally been developed as a recruiting tool for the far-right. Thats a problem.

Nanis, you dont have to worry about that stuff. It doesnt affect you. It might make other peoples lives better though. Take the oscars for instance, thats just best practice for hiring that anybody can reach - if you dont pass those standards you were likely deliberately trying to have a non-diverse cast and crew. Its a bare minimum. Nobody is saying that people cant play different orientations, and so on. My recommendation would be to chill out, stop taking these issues so seriously, and maybe even think about the advantages. And if not, you said yourself, you dont care what people are. So maybe try embracing that.

Right but legislative independence actually means no input in rules you have to follow, reducing financial transfers means losing investments and financial benefits from the EU (and brexit has already cost more than nearly 50 years of EU membership), and negotiating your own trade deals is a much worse position than being part of an enormously powerful trade bloc. Its just juvenile simplification.

And similarly, there is no advantage to the IMB. Its just sabre rattling to try to scare the EU into a deal, and it hasnt worked, but it has hurt the UK a lot just by being suggested. The people running the UK are not very smart.

It guarantees not only no deal with the EU but no relations with most of the world including the US. Its insane suicide.

Ed Miliband is genuinely amazing now hes back on the shadow front bench. Hes like a whole new guy. He is just covering for Keir Starmer here as he self-isolates but he genuinely humiliated Johnson.

Ambivalent, using it in the good and bad meaning.

I do believe that humanity can overcome the threats it faces. I actually think that the current pandemic shows that. It has shown that issues like CO2 emissions are solvable, that a huge majority of people fundamentally want to help each other, and it has in many places managed to beat the fascist wave the world was facing into retreat.

On the other hand, theres a lot of horrible stuff happening right now including said pandemic, and it again exposed how some will literally sell out the world to get paid.

So you know. A mix.

The thing is most of the world is in a state where it's fine to go to the cinema. I went to see Tenet because it's not too ad here now, it felt extremely safe. I'm glad I did because it was good and clearly made for the cinema.

If you're in America, don't go yet. It's clear that cinemas and governments in America were going tor reopen regardless of safety and this film couldn't stay out of there for long. But it'll be in cinemas for ages, wait until it is safe to do so.

For small games, announce and release it right away, "...And it's out... Right now!" is always a good way to build hype, though it doesn't really work for bigger games as they depend on pre-orders.

For bigger games, two months to a year. Don't go over 18 months. It's nice to know what's coming out to make plans and so on, but multi-year hype cycles are both annoying for people who are excited for a game, and can actually lead people to make purchases in error - more people than you might think bought a PS3 because of The Last Guardian.

Go and see it when it is safe to do so in your country/area, at a mostly empty cinema. Dont put yourselves or others at risk for this or any other film, bug when you do return to the cinerma this is a damn good reason to.

Jungle Book and Cinderella are the only good ones do far. Jungle Book in particular is a legit great film, and the best live action Disney branded film since... the original Mary Poppins? Its really great. Going from that to The Lion King was one of the biggest dips in quality for a director Ive ever seen.

I had actually heard largely positive things about Mulan. It definitely looked better than most, and different from the original which is vital. The Lion King repeats the original and is all the worst for it. So I was interested in this one.

Also dont forget Alice in Wonderland (ugh) and Maleficent (also ugh). Watch Jungle Book and Cinderella.
