I wondered why the fuck the U.S. maintained its stubborn position on Cuba and the embargo even as we become ever more economically intertwined with Communist China (apparently they're "good communists?").

I realize now... it's this small contingent of fuck wits still angry about half a century ago and the oversized influence they wield to swing the biggest "swing state" in the country, and appeasing them at any cost.
It was Obama/Biden that began to melt the diplomatic freeze and engage Cuba, and trump that reversed course. So yeah, I can see why they flocked to Trump, they're single issue voters on an issue (Cuban relations, specifically keeping them nonexistent) that the rest of America doesn't give a shit about.

In any case...I've said all along that Dems are morons to just assume the Hispanic vote is theirs and they can just coast to victories on "shifting demographics". A lot of Hispanics are conservative and/or very religious or otherwise fit into the mold of a Republican voter, they can easily be picked up by Republicans if the party tries.

People care about Arizona because we're going to get the results sooner. If Biden wins Arizona, then --- assuming that all other results stand -- he's won. If he doesn't get Arizona, it comes down to Pennsylvania.
Also, Biden winning AZ means Mark Kelly wins his Senate race. So that's kinda important.

Also, I don't want a small victory, I want a good electoral vote cushion so trump's lawsuits and tantrums are completely and utterly futile.

I'm not sure how that'd actually wash out in practice if it had an impact. Is there any precedent for a faithless elector changing a result?
I don't think so.
The electoral college makes razor thin popular vote margins look like mandates usually b/c of the winner take all status.
Not sure when the last time there was an election w/ electoral vote totals as super close as this could end up.
So a few jerks flipping off the democratic process don't affect it.

Found this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_presidential_elections_by_Electoral_College_margin#Table_of_election_results

Disregarding 1824, which was a 3 way mess, there's 1876, 2000, and 1796 for elections decided by 5 or fewer electoral votes (after that it jumps to like 20+, it seems). Of course those were final tallies, after any shenanigans...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1876_United_States_presidential_election#Electoral_disputes_and_the_Compromise_of_1877

That sounds messy...

2000 apparently a Gore elector abstained completely, so the margin would've been 4 instead of 5

And 1796 I'm not sure what to make of it. The election rules I guess were way different and still in flux back then....

EDIT: Random thought to make things even more fun...
Usually every election there's a few "faithless electors" that go against the will of the voters. But it doesn't matter b/c the electoral margin is wide enough to shrug it off. If someone wins by like 1-3 electoral votes, then...buckle up....

He still might.

Does he? I thought president got chosen by house, VP by senate if neither hit 270. Right now the house is still controlled by Democrats and the senate by Republicans.
Like I said, the rules are fucking dumb.
Yes, the House votes. But not the actual House. One vote per state (which makes it function more like the Senate, which makes you wonder why the fuck it's even the House doing the vote)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contingent_election#Presidential_election

Pursuant to the 12th Amendment, the House of Representatives is required to go into session immediately after the counting of the electoral votes to vote for president if no candidate for the office receives a majority of the electoral votes. In this event, the House is limited to choosing from among the three candidates who received the most electoral votes. Each state delegation votes en bloc, with each state having a single vote. A candidate is required to receive an absolute majority of state delegation votes (currently 26 votes) in order for that candidate to become the president-elect. The House continues balloting until it elects a president. As a consequence of the state delegation voting method, the party that holds the majority in the House could still lose the contingent election if the minority party holds the majority of state delegations.

To save me the headache of mathing, is it possible for neither candidate to get to 270 depending how it could split? If that happens, Trump will probably win because each state gets 1 vote in the house to pick (and Trump has more states behind him)?
Yes it's possible, and yes, Trump auto-wins a tie b/c of our dumb election rules.
You'd think an electoral tie would use the popular vote as a tie-breaker at least, or it'd be based on the full House vote.
But nope!

https://www.nytimes.com/live/2020/11/02/us/trump-biden-election#the-trump-campaign-asked-a- pennsylvania-county-where-the-ballots-will-be-kept-rattling-local-officials

(take out the space)

Officials in a Central Pennsylvania county were deeply unsettled by a request from the Trump campaign last week for details about election security protocols, including specific information about the storage and transportation of ballots.
The request, first reported by The Sentinel of Carlisle, Pa., was sent last Tuesday to officials in Cumberland County, which includes Carlisle and sits just outside Harrisburg, the state capital.
On behalf of Donald J. Trump for President, the email began, going on to instruct officials to answer more than two dozen questions regarding your offices compliance with existing statutes and law and insisting on a response by 5 p.m. the next day.
The questions included where ballots and voting machines would be stored after polls closed including address and room number the names of people who were transporting them, the security (if any) provided during transport and the manner in which ballots and voting machines would be secured.
Ive been here 16 years and Ive never seen a request anywhere like that, said Gary Eichelberger, the Republican chairman of Cumberland Countys Board of Commissioners.
Thea McDonald, the Trump campaigns deputy press secretary, said that the campaign has made similar requests of many local officials as part of the Trump campaigns efforts to ensure a free and fair election.
Given that more than 500,000 mail ballots were tossed out in this years primaries, we must look into these critical issues, she added, referring to the 534,000 mail ballots that were rejected across 23 states. The information weve asked for includes standard election transparency details, and election officials should have the answers on hand. When did transparency become a bad thing?
The request came as legal challenges to Pennsylvanias election system and policies have multiplied down the homestretch of a race for perhaps the single most hotly contested state in the country, where Joseph R. Biden Jr. has held a consistent polling lead over President Trump. Mr. Trump suggested over the weekend that he would challenge the states election results before vote counting even finishes.
Cumberland County is one of the counties in Pennsylvania that will not begin counting mail-in ballots until Wednesday.
In a news conference on Monday morning, Pennsylvanias top elections official, Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar, suggested that the request was improper.
No county should provide any election security information to any third party ever, Ms. Boockvar said, adding that she had been in touch with the F.B.I. about the request.
