I get a lot of people are talking about the feminists who just use it as a reason to blame everything on men but it's a bit like comparing all conservatives to alt right neonazis or comparing all liberals to wanting white people to be shot on sight for arguing with a person who isn't white

Like I get it. These people are idiots and scum but they're minority and it's weird people think this is what feminism is

This is what some guys pretend feminism is so that they have an excuse to shit on the entire movement.

nothing fancy, lol. just basically shift the money from reportable assets (bank accounts, mutual funds, saving plans, etc.) to nonreportable assets like retirement accounts, small businesses, and home equity (for the most part). Another strategy is to just use the money to pay down any debt that you have.

they ask you for how much money you have in savings, if i remember correctly.

you can take some steps to legally shelter those if you think it might affect your aid...but i'd only recommend that for people who have a large sum. Otherwise, you're better off being truthful and not defrauding the government.

When ever i restart FF7 original, i always couldnt wait to get out of midgar. The journey, the hunt of sephiroth was what made the game good for me.

That sounds nice. Honestly, after playing Remake, I got an urge to actually play the original just so I could see what happens/how the game is when you leave midgar. And thus, FFVII moved up in rank for the FF games I need to play - after I finish IX and X.

yeah I know but what does that have to do with anything?

I guess the point he was trying to make is that since you know it's only the first part of the game, either the game is going to be extremely short, or there's going to be a lot of extra stuff that wasn't there in the original.

the game feels like it took its time developing the characters and their personalities, but i can see if someone is sued to the original's pacing, that this might just seem like filler and you want to get to the point.

Aka the style

But that's the issue. If you take a rpg made in Japan that breaks the mold and utilizes elements more commonly seen in WPRGs, you would classify it as a WPRG and be done with it. I would classify it as a JRPG, and use it as an example of a different type of JRPG, not simply a WRPG - aka a different way of making JRPGs.

Ultimately, it just boils down to what you think is most important: does the distinction serve best as more of a stylistic difference between two genres or as a canon of how a specific region makes role playing games?

You clearly think it's the former, I think it's the latter. I don't think neither are necessarily wrong.

I like how in your attempt to explain that the physical location of the studio should be the determining factor and not style, you actually don't mention the physical location of the studio and talk exclusively about style.

I've already told you what the reasoning is - it's the most clear-cut way to classify the game which doesn't rely on vague notions of "style" that aren't even close to uniform across WRPGs or JRPGs. And I clearly do mention the physical location when I'm talking about other games in Japan which followed suit. To deny Dark Souls' status as a JRPG, you would deny an important linkage to other Soulslike JRPGs which naturally evolved from it.

What could possibly be more useless than distinguishing by country of origin? Even if it's literally just how pointy the hero's hair is, it still gives you more information about the game itself than literally where the office space the developer rents is.

It's extremely important. For example, even when a game like Dark Souls differs stylistically from what you generally think JPRGs are and should look like, you can see elements of classic JRPG storytelling and subversions within games such as Dark Souls. Furthermore, the evolution of the series within Japan also stems from Dark Souls' nature as a JRPG. JRPGs like Code Vein owe their roots to Dark Souls and share more traditional elements of JRPGs, while retaining similar gameplay.

I mean, guys, I do see your point in how the styles are so different that you would classify them differently. But I don't see anyone coming up with a reasonable classification other than what they "feel" they should be classified as.

JRPG and WRPG are styles. The country they're made in is irrelevant. If I head down to my local strip mall and order Lo Mein cooked by a bunch of Mexicans in the kitchen, I'm still eating Chinese food.

There are tropes and common elements that WRPGs and JRPGs tend to have, but if a game moves away form those, that doesn't mean that the game doesn't fit the description. The best and way to classify whether something is a WRPG or JRPG is the place of origin, as their names suggest. This is because any other classifications are malleable and unspecific to the point of uselessness, more so than genre classifications as a whole.

that's not what a JRPG means. That's just a turned-based JRPG.

JRPG isn't a genre. It's a RPG that comes from Japan. They can be turned based like FF, DQ and SMT. Or they can be action based like Dark Souls, Tales, and the Mana Series.

I didn't like turned-based games for the longest time. I remember getting about 1/4 through FFIX when I was like 7 years old, but got stuck. Then, I think I played Suikoden IV and got till the last boss that I couldn't beat when I was in middle school. Other than Pokemon, I never thought the genre was for me.

Then I played Persona 3 in college and it was amazing. What I like about JRPGs are story, design, and music, but honestly, not the gameplay. However, if the turned-based gameplay has some kind of addicting gimmick like fusing persona/exploiting elemental weaknesses or catching/evolving pokemon, I can be there for it. I guess those two are pretty similar, tbh, but I think that if other Turn Based games had gimmicks to keep them fresh like these two, it would be great. You never know what persona/pokemon you might meet or into what they will evolve/fuse, so you just wanna keep playing to see that and use them in battle.

That being said, I'm embarking on a journey to play every mainline FF game (except for the MMOs, though I've played a bit of XIV already). I'm still pretty early, but I've beaten XV, XII Zodiac Age, and VII Remake. Remake had the best combat so far, and I think it'll probably be my favorite gameplay of the series. I'm playing IX right now, and I love the setting, characters, music, and story. The gameplay? Not that much.

Also, random encounters are a shitty game mechanic. And will always be a shitty game mechanic.
