I was going to vote Rand here, but unless his shield is much faster than Mewtwo's overall speed (not even teleport speed), this is a match of "who can gotcha the other the best.

That said, Rand is more likely to win without Balefire (per prompt), because there's no guarantee Mewtwo can't deflect it and fuck him over.

Welcome to the King of Fighters 2020 (NOT MERCS) Simulated Character Battle Tournament!

The game is simple. The two* listed characters are placed in an (imaginary) location with a variety of (imaginary) environments, kind of like a picture in a child's schoolbook that describes different types of geological features. Depends on the teleportation. If Mewtwo's teleportation is instantaneous and undetectable, nobody really has a counter for that. If Rand saw it coming at all, he'd be able to make a shield (he survived the aforementioned building being torn down on him by using a weave that IIRC forms a complete barrier around himself). I think in general the logic for fights like this should be that alike magic is generally "transferable" across franchises. For example, if one character is immune to magic, they won't be entirely immune to the magic from a character with a completely different magic system, but they would have resistance to the spells that are similar between the works. In Wheel of Time, you can only teleport if you are familiar with the location you are in... however, if you get teleported there, you become instantly familiar, and are immediately ready to teleport. I'd argue that Mewtwo's teleportation would fulfill this.

I think Rand would naturally form a shield upon being teleported, a fairly large one so that he'd have plenty of air. I don't remember if it's transparent or not (I don't think it is), but it would also seem like the obvious play to find a way to scout outside without leaving his cocoon... which would reveal he's literally in the Sun. He knows teleportation allows teleportation, so he'd try that first. If it failed, he'd try to become familiar enough with the area to Skim, which only requires about half an hour of examination. I don't recall if there's a weave to regenerate fresh air. There probably is, as Air is one of the fundamental powers channelers can directly manipulate, and I think he'd have a big enough bubble to last for an hour of too if there isn't, seeing as Rand is as powerful as possible and has learned his lesson on this before and has no reason to skimp on his shield.

Moral of the story is that Rand would at least have time to think and plan, and having 400 years of experience across two lives, would probably find a way to escape. I don't think Mewtwo's teleport would be fast enough to avoid this, otherwise he'd just be broken and his matches wouldn't be interesting at all

leaning Rand right now, though knowing more about his durability/defenses would be helpful if possible, since I can see Mewtwo getting at least one solid attack in before Rand is aware of him and his attacks are pretty large scale

Rand is pretty experienced with ambushes; he doesn't have a ton of durability but he'd be able to throw up a pretty good defense if he sensed anything coming. I don't see why Mewtwo would have a better shot of getting in a sneak attack than Rand would. There are plenty of eavesdropping and invisibility weaves used in the series, and Rand can teleport or go to the dream realm to hide and scout.

He has several hundred years of experience with half of that being during war with an enemy that had straight-up mind control as a favored weapon. He definitely has been specifically trained to repel and resist psychic attacks

If it hits somebody's arm it counts for the whole. Not sure what you mean by concepts. If somebody says or creates something, and then gets hit with enough balefire to be erased to before when he did that, those things would never have been made... but wouldn't be forgotten? A character dies and gets revived by balefire undoing his death, and I know for a fact that he doesn't remember dying, and that the person who ended up saving him does remember it, but I don't recall if anybody else does. I think they do, but dismissed it as a mistake. It's been a while since I read the books

There's a reason it's forbidden. Paradoxes like this literally create cracks in the Universe. I'd say that generally, yeah, that wouldn't kill somebody. Rand especially, since fate to an extant is bent towards his will.

The three solutions I see are 1, nerf him by removing balefire, 2, buff him by letting him use the Choedan Kal so that he's for sure Broken, or 3, just swap him with a Broken character with no changes. The issue with the former is that that's mostly a nerf for him in Broken; I don't think he'd need to resort to balefire to defeat anybody in Hard, at least not anybody with physical bodies that they need, and even the forces and spirits he has Weaving I could buy working on. The other choices depend on how strong he is relative to the Broken characters. I could maybe see him just being a better match in Broken than Magneto or someone based on how their powers would interact with opponents rather than raw strength, and thus needing the Choedan Kal to compete. Again, I don't know enough to make the call.

Last chance: should Rand be swapped into Broken tier? I don't know the non-meta characters well enough to be sure of their placement above him. Magneto seems kind of fishy being there, but as far as I can tell his powers aren't really bounded because the authors don't understand physics and just let him do anything tangentially related to magnetism for the plot

Star's Fandom Wiki page is so long, sheesh. What I've learned is she can be a goof though in later episodes she takes things more seriously. She has a Magic Wand that she at some point doesn't use. She can also use wandless magic. She does not strike me as the type to wantonly set a supermarket on fire that may have a package of prion-infested beef.

If the prion legit can't interact with anything until Star touches it (or until something falls on it or something), and Star is compelled to seek it out, would she recognize it (or whatever it's inhabiting) as her opponent? And if so, would she examine it more carefully/talk to it, or would she blow it up immediately?

She wouldn't recognize it at all as an enemy unless she actually saw it, which would require her isolating it and using a microscope. If she's very self-aware, however, I could buy an argument that she'd notice that she was being subtly compelled to go to a certain place, and use that as a hint that her enemy is there. I wouldn't expect a fifteen year old to know themselves that well.

Personally, I think the only way to interpret this is that the prion is just chilling in some frozen beef or something. They're present in the flesh of infected animals, and wouldn't just be lying on the ground. Star isn't leaving without destroying the prion, and (I probably should've specified this in the rules) she won't know that it's her enemy until she sees it... which she won't because it's just protein. I'd imagine it could stay viable and not denature over long timescales.

So the first question is if she'd think to just destroy everything blindly trying to defeat the enemy, or if she'd just wander around, searching, until she gets hungry and ends up eating it for dinner. I don't know her personality well, but I don't think she'd go for wanton destruction

Second question is if she could cure herself or not. Again, I don't know how the show works. If she transforms while injured, is the injury cured? I don't think it would be given the usual logic, so I doubt transformation could save her if this is the case unless she knows the specific problem, which again seems unlikely.

So I guess I'm going prion
