Look, if it were possible to make everyone ignore her I would love it. Imagine seeing her doing her shit on some campus, and everyone just walks by like they don't even see her. When she forces a reaction by getting pushy and in people's faces, they just say something like "nobody cares" and brush her off. It would be GLORIOUS.

Unfortunately getting that level of cooperation is impossible so we'll have to take what we can get.

Yes especially online--these tend to be at the same difficulty level of printed news. Or at the very least closer.

Regular news though, is so abbreviated and simplified. I have this app, Smart News, and the difference is really striking. For an international story, the Japanese version may be only a tenth as long as the English version of the same story!

Essentially I'm doing 30-60 minutes a day of "light" study (anki, reading news) and 15-30 minutes of "serious" study (speed reading, grammar, lapsed word practice).

This should be able to get me to N1 level in 9 months or so. Of course I already know a decent amount of N1 stuff, so someone who is still barely at passing N2 level would take a year or more. Or if you want to take your time, you could do what I'm doing and halve everything to get there in 2-3 years... or double it if you're obsessed with passing ASAP.

Right now I'm settling into a study pattern.

-For vocabulary and kanji, I'm using Anki. If you don't know about this, it's great. Back when I was studying for N2 I had tons of word cards I would make and organize into a study plan that had me reviewing and bringing back old words on increasingly longer schedules. Anki is a program that does this automatically! And there are already sets of flashcards that other people have made, which you can download for free. Get the mobile version of this, and this part of studying gets SO much easier.
I downloaded a deck that has about 16000 "cards" for all levels. SInce I'm doing N5 I just put them all on random so I can review older stuff and make sure I know it while the hard stuff is coming. Right now I have a schedule of 125 new cards a day, with maximum 250 review. If that becomes overwhelming I may reduce them later, but right now I know more than half of what comes up, so I can get through them in roughly 30-40 minutes a day. And it's something I can just do in little bits, a few minutes at a time.

-Anki has a thing called "lapsing" where they automatically suspend cards that you miss too many times. That hasn't started happening yet, but when it does, I have a notebook and once a week I plan to write all the suspended words/kanji in it and practice writing them 10 times a day.

-Speed reading. I set a timer for 10 minutes, and try to get through as much of a newspaper as I can in that time. The goal is to get through quickly and understand while looking up words as little as possible.
*If you are studying for N1, I HIGHLY recommend doing some reading in a print newspaper because online news sources always seem to be shorter with simpler language. For N2 study, online news sources or easier things like magazines or entertainment related publications are fine.

-Reading news in Japanese. This is less useful for the test than above, but still helps me get used to the language so I skim through them to keep up to date on current events. Similar to anki, it's something I can do casually in my spare moments here and there.

-Grammar study. I have found a FANTASTIC site for Japanese grammar study:
http://www.edewakaru.com/
This site has explanations that are so easy to understand, and good example sentences for each one. I wish this had been around when I was studying for the N2! I'm doing 2 N1 phrases per day. I copy each phrase, its definition, and a few example sentences in the same notebook I am using for lapsed vocab/kanji. I also have those printed out, by day, and I'm keeping them in a clear file along with my notebook for future reference.

Usually framerate is more important but it depends on the game.

Like if there's not a lot of action, say in an RPG where timing isn't important, I'd rather have the game look nicer even if the framerate is somewhat lower. Especially if it's consistent. A game that's 25 fps but always 25 fps is preferable to one that wavers between 25 and 60 fps.

And I'm not just talking about his cabinet. Congress, the media, and the UN. Even the American people. The fact is that the war had enormous support, and not just because we were lied to. After 9/11 people were itching to go out and attack, to use America's big military to go and stamp out all of the "bad guys," even if it wasn't justified and had nothing to do with the terrorist attacks.

What kinds of reading would you say is best for the test? Japanese newspapers are the obvious one I think.

edit: I see you answered as I was posting.

I studied over four hours everyday for a year for the N1. It's no joke.
I know! I actually failed it once many years ago. IIRC I needed 70% to pass, and I got a little under 60%. So while I can't say I almost passed, I think I was close enough that a year of study should be enough to make it.

Of course there are still a lot of variables I'm not sure of yet. Since then my conversation skills have gone way up but my reading skills have lapsed somewhat. Also I know the test has changed a lot since I took it so I'll definitely need practice tests so I know what to expect going in. Still, I think it should be doable as long as I have good study habits and keep them consistent.

I'll take your advice and try to read more Japanese. Maybe several news articles a day instead of one, and a novel.
