On the other hand, that doesn't necessarily negate the inherent absurdity of treating being agreeable and open as negative qualities.

Oh I'm right there with you, seeing agreeable and open as negatives is ridiculous. But it's definitely weird that they did this study using men posing for portraits with their cats rather than just normal pictures with a cat as if they're the same thing.

Note, that picture wasn't one used in the study, just a random one I googled because now I'm looking at people getting portraits taken with their cats.

I took a look at the link now though, and I do think those photos would make me feel conflicted actually. There's a big difference between taking a professional photo with your cat and taking a dopey picture with your cat at home. If you're going to a photographer with your cat, you've got problems.

Oh shit, I didn't realize that they showed professional pictures taken with a cat. Yeahhh, that's way different than like a selfie with your cat laying on your chest, which is what I was picturing.

I haven't spoken to either of my parents in years now because of their drinking. You did not get any say in who your father is and you have no obligation whatsoever to maintain a relationship with him. If he genuinely makes your life worse then I would say that you have an obligation to yourself to cut him out, especially since from what I've seen you post you have made a lot of progress dealing with some difficult things.

It seems like your parents lashing out at you has conditioned you to feel like the cause of their problems rather than a victim of them. That's dangerous thinking and something you should really try to watch for in yourself and correct when it's happening. You are not responsible for your parents' lives.
