You just keep pushing through it until it's just part of your daily routine. It will be tough early on, but there's no other way around it.

The funny thing is I have a friend who's a nutritionist (has a degree and helps fighters weight cut, some of them in the UFC, others Olympic kickboxers and Judoka) and that's almost exactly what he said he'd do... grab the cake and throw it in the trash and confront her is how he put it. I could never do that, but it is sort of disappointing to hear how bad she wants to change and then go to grab a water and see a piece of cake in there that has 17 G of saturated fat and is like 2,000 calories just by itself.

Yeah...that confrontational method would only work for some people. Hearing that she's overweight most of her adult life, I would think something like that would not work. There's a lot of deprogramming and unlearning bad habits that needs to be done, yelling at them won't help. What likely ends up happening is they would just discretely continue the bad habits.

Tell her it is a marathon and not a sprint. Most people do not lose weight that quickly and it's better that it takes long because it gets you in the mindset of following through with healthy habits. Also she should not be discouraged if she messes up her diet plan or miss out an exercise sometimes. A lot of people tend to think they have to start all over when that happens, you don't. Just keep pushing forward.
