I already know the answer to that. white people (I am white too) don't like to admit they have all the advantages in society. it's uncomfortable to think about it and to own up to. nobody likes to think of themselves as oppressing others. and its easier to just think "black people can succeed too. they just need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and obey the law like i do!"

it's a very sobering experience, that moment as a white person when you finally stop fighting those thoughts and actually realize that you ARE privileged. and what that means

Because not knowing what it is makes it easier to say that it isn't real.

It's not better, but that's what they do anyway. We've had countless of threads on this topic, and the ones that don't understand it will continue to refuse to be educated about it no matter how many times it is explained.

Something I don't hear about brought up enough is "networking" aka cronyism. So many incompetent people got their jobs through a friend or family member. Networking is touted as the best way to find a job, but it's seldom mentioned that the most priviledged people have access to the best networks. I'm usually on the bootstrap wagon, but this aspect of it is removes too much of the meritocracy out of it. It doesn't help at all that the employers tend to look for people who share similar values/culture when hiring as well.

Yup, incredibly overlooked. I work in the financial tech industry and you see this happen so much in sales departments. Every single one of those dudes looks and acts exactly the same lol

It's dramatically more than that. I dont feel attacked personally, but I can see how the arguement could be made for it. Also, it's uncomfortablely close to the slogan "White power" for many. I sure as shit dont want to be associated with that.

Racial power inequality or something more neutral sounding wouldve gone over smoother imo. Something snappier than that, but in that realm.

Probably majority privilege, minority disadvatage. Or western majority privilege. Any time I've mentioned white privilege to someone, they didn't understand what I was talking about. Once I broke it down for them in a way that made sense to them, it was easier to understand.

Many of the aspects attributed to white privilege can be easily applied to any other majority race on the planet. If you are part of the majority race, it is more likely that you are going to see members of your race in positions of power. More likely to have members of your race as neighbors. More likely to see members of your race represented in the media. All of these are key talking points when it comes to white privilege.

Places that have western favoritism will be more like to cater towards white people, since they are seen as the dominant race in the west.

It should also be said that not every place on the planet has white western privilege. Some middle eastern counties are not very welcoming to westerners, so its not a universal privilege.

No one had an easy time finding a job from 09-current and thats the only other semi valid arguement to privilige not being class based. Keep in mind im not saying it doesnt exist just there is an almost eagerness to jump to race or gender in every possible precived instance of it. Just like the people that jump to "diviserty hire" you dont know what was on the other persons resume.

The highest earning ethnic group in the US is Inidan Americans, who make nearly double what the average white American makes. So how exactly does white privilege make them succeed?

The average asian family has a higher average income than white families, the average asian American is more educated than the average white American (and the majority of foreign born asian Americans have college degrees), asian Americans are less likely to be convicted of a crime than white Americans.

Sure there isn't enough asian representation in Hollywood, or as board executives, or involved in politics. But I'm sure that will change (except for Hollywood anyway)

The average white American isn't looking at how many Justices are white, he cares about money and his place in society, and the average white American is in fact not the highest earning race in the US.

When I first tried to learn about it, it was framed as a literal "you have white privilege and you don't even realize it lol get a clue"

Unfortunately if you're trying to learn what it is and the first few people are idiots to you, you're not gonna try.
Same with when you hear how white people are responsible for all the fuck ups in society.

1. You are picking and choosing scenarios that don't prove anything against it since you don't have any background knowledge of it.
2. Indian Americans with high salaries are normally high level medical, technical, and financial industry professionals. Companies in those industries insist on hiring the best of the best. Most of them are on company sponsored visas. To obtain a visa, companies have to prove to the USCIS that these individuals are needed because they can't find anyone within the country with their particular qualifications.
3. See point #2. Guess what two countries produce the largest number of work visas in high income fields in the US. India and China.
4. Money is not the only thing that white privilege is. Read the articles if you want to learn more.

I personally always feel accomplishments or achievements always take some sort of luck to get done. We all know being skillful and hardwork can only take you so far. Sometimes you just gotta take all your blessing where they come from. The way the world works unfortunately.
